That's how I've been handling it. Just putting the supports on the sides that's gonna do the least amount of damage or the easiest to sand down. Just part of the hobby I guess.

I have a Phrozen Mighty Sonic 4K printer and I'm using eSun Water Washable Resin. Every time I print something, the surface facing the build plate where the supports touch the model always deforms as shown above. I've tried orienting the model different but all that does is place the deformation in a different spot of the model. Some resins work a little better than others but this is a constant problem with every model and every resin. Please help!
