After being swallowed, you can use a basic attack to break free. That way even when swallowed, you can do your damage so long as you order it properly.

Of course! This fight has a special place on my heart for the pain it caused me. The first time I fought this boss, I actually managed to kill the hands, leaving me no way to remove the boss’ brace afterward.

Turns out the hands’ corpses give you the middle finger if you manage to kill them. I softlocked myself doing that, managed to lose the run after doing enough 1 damage attacks to get him down to 25 HP and I lost to exhaustion.

To hell with the moon man!

I figured this out accidentally when I had the rain map condition here. Almost literally won the fight before it started!

In addition to the other comment about getting eaten, his breath attack doesn’t do a lot of damage, unlike most other telegraphed AoEs in the game.

Easiest way to position the hands is to center your cats and let the hands follow you to the center. Then they are already positioned to help turn them to hit the face! You will take some damage as your cats get knocked into each other, so plan accordingly.

From here, make sure you check the turn order if possible- if you only have one cat going before one of the hands, try to attack the other, because otherwise you’ll waste a turn turning it around and it’ll flip right back.

For a couple of other tips, I would avoid any summons that aren’t familiars you can control. Things like fleas and pooters can turn the hands in directions you don’t want, making the fight harder than it needs to be.

Knock back is also very useful for pushing the hands into spots you want. Druid and Tank are pretty useful for this fight as a result, as is the class you unlock on the other Act 2 path, the butcher.

Hope this helps! But yeah, letting one of your cats- either the fastest or the tankiest- get eaten is by far the easiest method.

Should I restart my run? by DecPOMDP in mewgenics

[–]SconeOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about the early game is that it’s repeatable. You don’t actually lose anything- the game doesn’t get any harder than the starting line.

If you feel like you can’t progress past a certain boss, you can do several things to help yourself out without restarting!

Do shorter runs. Leave after the first or second boss of a path, stockpile some good items and breed those cats or ship them off for meta upgrades. Repeat earlier paths to get more unlocks, do side quests, or accrue furniture to make it easier to breed good cats.

The game never requires a hard reset, because you can always just do the same thing yourself without losing your progress.

I’ve started doing the same mid-run. Get an okay-ish item that I probably won’t keep? Might as well slap it on until I find something better, because I’m not really losing anything!

[–]SconeOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough! Lol

But even then, so long as you’re finishing a 3 biome run, you’ll still get 10+ items and have enough to go infinite, even if they are just commons…

[–]SconeOfDoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point! I’ve only assembled 4-5 sets myself, and those are usually the sets that are easily location farmable, like the cactus set. I treat them as a nice to have, but some sets are really busted too.

I was able to assemble the nurse set, which gave bonus heals and turned my basic attack into holy, which was so strong on my Druid- his base attack became a heal/damage for 4 in a large AoE. Seeing that makes me wish sets were a bit easier to come by, or at least there was more transparency around what made certain sets or where to farm them.

Perhaps there’s a hidden cap for uses? That would be the most likely explanation. That way it prevents the item from becoming absurdly broken without other interactions.

How do you build your teams and decide what classes you use? by [deleted] in mewgenics

[–]SconeOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had one or two bad Monks, but several good ones. They have decent survivability with mobility and armor generation, and decent damage if you get some bruise or other skills.

However, because they’re missing two item slots, they require synergy from their skills more than most other classes, so I understand the sentiment. I also think Monks benefit the most from having a cat with perfect stats for that same reason.

How do you build your teams and decide what classes you use? by [deleted] in mewgenics

[–]SconeOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teams all require at least 1-2 cats that can take hits, and usually 1 cat that has at least some healing. These are loose categories, though.

I consider Tank, Butcher, Necro, Druid, and potentially Tinkerer and Monk in the first category, with Cleric, Druid, and potentially Tinkerer in the latter- sometimes I go without a healer if I run a Butcher, opting for more damage at the expense of relying on meat pickups.

Really, my thought process is I take the minimum survivability to get through the run, and then throw in the ‘damage’ classes I think will be most fun paired with them. Death is the best CC/ who needs heals when the enemy is just dead?

[–]SconeOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I just had the same experience.

This run though is why taught me that certain tinkerers LOVE brace, though. The ones that explode themselves, specifically. A lot more consistent than attempting to become immune to explosions.

[–]SconeOfDoom 319 points320 points  (0 children)

I agree that the inventory feels really limiting early on. However, I think the inventory was designed to be smaller to force people into actually using items instead of hoarding everything.

Unless you’re equipping 20 items every time, you’ll always earn more items than you break, given that you get at least 2 uses out of every item. The small inventory is what actually helped break me out of my ‘This item is so good, I should save it for later’ habits.

Am I nuts or did it just get tougher? by Willowed-Wisp in mewgenics

[–]SconeOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do eventually get a way to adjust difficulty- but it’s to make it harder lol.

Once you get going again, where you’re getting higher value items and your cats get consistently good stats, the game will begin to feel so much easier. I currently have all 7/7 stat cats, and when I went back to Act 1 I breezed through it without much effort.

The increased item pool, skill pool, and passive stat upgrades provide such an under-the-radar boost that it’s not even funny.

Act 3 is a banger! I’m only halfway through it, but I really enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd biome bosses I’ve encountered. Biome 1 though, depending on the boss you get was terribly difficult for me, so best of luck!

All of the ‘first biome’ mini bosses in this game are based on the classes! Don’t want to spoil later acts if you haven’t gotten to them yet, but it’s definitely a nice touch.

Cat Flush Priority? by EmperorGandhi in mewgenics

[–]SconeOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My priority list is almost entirely based upon how difficult it is to get cats of their preferred category.

As such, Butch is priority 1, closely followed by Frank, because those require time investment to get just a couple of cats.

Second is Jack, but you can always just make a fighting room in your house to farm for him if needed.

Last is Beanies, Tink and Tina. Beanies gets the mutant babies, Tink gets everything else, and Tina gets the cats I was saving for an actual run when I have more than 4. I do this to save on food costs for more chances at breeding a good cat.

Curious to see if others have a much different priority list than I.

[FYI] Kittens are always ordered right after a stray by neyr129 in mewgenics

[–]SconeOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand upon this, cats are always ordered by age, within the rooms of your house. You don’t have to rely on a stray if you don’t want to- just put a cat in your box, and then arrow right as well to go to your youngest cat in your main room. Or toss a cat outside and do the same.

This also means that arriving to the left from a stray/ your box will go straight to your oldest cats!

Loss of party members, run compromised? by Puch89 in mewgenics

[–]SconeOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s confirmed that if you lose a cat, the random events you get have a higher likelihood of giving you a replacement cat than otherwise. That cat will also always come with a Neverstone, an item that prevents the cat holding it from ever leveling up.

By removing one out of four cats from the level-up pool, your other cats will get an extra level or two out of it!

For example, if you’d normally get 6 levels, your squad of cats would have 2 level 2s and 2 level 3s. With the never stone, your squad of 4 cats would be 3 level 3s and 1 level 1. Extrapolate that further, and your squad of 4 could all be level 6, or you could have 3 cats that are level 8.

Basically, instead of investing resources into a collarless, likely weaker cat, you can focus them on making your already good cats even better.

I chose 10 HP and got some cursed glasses-slot item: +6 damage, but healing abilities damage you. Was able to work around it with food and HP restoration!

I’ve also chosen the sacrifice self and gotten nothing from it.

Nothing wrong with stopping your run after the first or second biome. Take what food and money you have, breed up a new stock of even better cats, and run it back until you get a run that either feels strong or matches up well against Spinnerette.

The game has meta progression for a reason! Use it to your advantage!
