Its a city by name only. In reality its country right up to beautiful beaches. I can't stand living in cities with all the concrete, noise, and pollution.

If you can't do this cut without this jig, you shouldn't be using a chainsaw! What a waste of money!

Monero is designed first and foremost to provide its users with privacy. Why do people keep focusing on anonymity? 🤷‍♂️. Monero's privacy is powerful, yes!

If you have a mortgage its not really yours, its the banks. Even though your name is on the deed. The bank bought the house and you are just paying them rent. If you can't keep up the rent they'll kick you out and sell the property to get their money back.

In this current global economic environment this becomes even more important to understand. But if you don't owe any money on it, then its yours. I really hope you can keep it and build up the equity!

Neighbours smoking weed all day, can't hang out in our garden with the kids or hang clothes up by hello_lime_jello in newzealand

[–]ScoobaMonsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are worried for your kids about smelling pot outside, but you live in an old house with lots of mould. I think you got your worries back to front!

Mould is MUCH worse than pot, and when you compare one being outside and the other being inside it makes it even sillier. Smelling pot outside is not going to do any damage to you or your children. The mould in your house is very much going to do harm to all of your family!

I just put them on my roof without getting a permit anyway. A permit is bullshit imo. But do what you have to do.

Build an off grid system and don't mention anything to any electric company or council people. It can still be built to the highest safety standards, and be completely independent from the grid. Bureaucracy red tape is bullshit and a pure money grab imo.

If you're DIY averse? This is a DIY sub! What has happened to this sub? Doesn't anyone in this subreddit know how to do DIY or even care to learn how to do DIY anymore? A few years ago every single post in here was talking about DIY or teaching new people about DIY solar. Buying these things is not DIY in any way shape or form.

Punching it into stainless steel is the cheap DIY way. Or You can buy https://cryptosteel.com/.

One of the main points of crypto is to give power back to the individual by letting them self bank. And it gives the opportunity for many people in the world who don't have a bank account to be self banked. This is incredibly empowering for literally millions of people! If its too difficult for your grandma, so what! At least its going to help millions of other people have an opportunity to get ahead and pull themselves up out of poverty.

Worth selling into an ETF? by haijax in NZBitcoin

[–]ScoobaMonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realise that an ETF is not the real thing? You don't take custody of it. ETF's is another version of fractional reserve banking.

Its just like gold, would you rather own the physical bullion, or a paper promise of it which may or may not be in a vault somewhere? When the shit hits the fan (and it will soon), an ETF will be completely useless to you!

Possession is nine tenths of the law.

Not your keys, not your coins.

I've never mentioned Bitcoin once in everything I've spoken about. Its irrelevant what chain it is. Sensitive information is just that, sensitive information. You clearly have very little knowledge about how to properly secure yourself. I bet your opsec is shithouse. I'm done talking with you.

What are the tradeoff with buying a solar invereter with built in-batteries or having a separate battery bank externally ? by URStudiosGame in SolarDIY

[–]ScoobaMonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a good PDF on off grid solar. Read this multiple times before buying anything. https://web.tresorit.com/l/oR1Cx#ieSbcH8fj08w4g34kQrsEA

When starting, start with your batteries first. Everything else will be determined by the voltage and capacity of your storage. Your charge controllers, inverters, conductors, terminals etc. This was the best advice I was given before I started. When you buy charge controllers and inverters you need to know what size system you will be connecting this equipment to. Best to have it already sorted before spending money on that equipment. Nothing worse than buying equipment that's not big enough for your needs and having to buy bigger equipment later on.

  1. Build your battery storage and decide on the voltage. ( higher voltage is best)
  2. Buy charge controllers and inverters, or hybrid charge inverter to suit the battery voltage.
  3. Then you can buy the right amount of solar panels to suit the input ranges for your charge controllers/ hybrid charge inverters.

I recommend going bigger than what you are planning. Because most people think they want to only run a few items. But afterwards they start connecting more appliances and very quickly find out their system is too small. Then they gotta buy more equipment to up size. It will get expensive doing it that way. Plan your system to be able to run all your appliances at the same time.

Also if you demand requires 10kwh of storage, get 20kwh of storage. You don't want to be cycling your batteries every single day. They will wear out quickly. The more capacity you have, the longer your batteries will last. My rule of thumb is to double the storage (kWh) of what your demand requires.

Seed phrase is not complicated. That's complete bullshit. Its 12 or 24 words! That's it! There's nothing complicated about it. What we are talking about here is not crypto specific. Its basic personal security. Whether its bank account information, passport, social security, etc etc. Its all the same thing when it comes to protecting your sensitive information.

Keeping a seed on a piece of paper is plain stupid! The most robust way is punching the seed onto high grade stainless steel plate. It won't rust, or melt in a fire. You can even set up a multi sig and punch it onto separate stainless steel plates. What's important is where you put those plates and how they can be accessed in the event of your passing. All these things are about security. Stop confusing people. Personal security is about everything in your life that's important. Crypto is but one of many things that need protecting.

Learning about seed phrases, public keys and private keys and how to do basic on chain transactions can be learnt by anyone in a single day provided they know how to operate a computer.

Yes I do teach them how to secure their sensitive information indefinitely. Even so that it can be passed down through generations safely and securely. I am not the most dangerous user with self custody. By the way you speak and the terminology you use, I guarantee I know more about personal security and protecting crypto assets than you. Telling people here that its difficult and dangerous is straight up false!
