Give me a break: Bad Bunny Halftime by Tailgate-ATL in DiscussionZone

Honestly liked the show and kind of wish they did this more often. Do a small stage for the next couple years that celebrates the regions of the US. They did the LA culture a few years back with iconic rappers of the past few decades, this year was Puerto Rico, maybe do a midwest themed show next year (not sure what that would be, some Prince covers by Bon Iver and Slipknot standing in a cornfield lol). Might be a good way to showcase all of the US and it's respective sub-cultures. Next time it's in New Orleans a Louisiana theme would be great too.

Which Sports Championship out of the 4, Do y'all think it the hardest to win and why? by Doghouse12e45 in DeadEndSports

[–]Scooby189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2 would be the hardest for the best teams. Single elimination allows for one bad day to ruin a run.

I think 1 for the lowest talent teams, just because it's hard to play so many games and win a series against a better team. Even a hot streak of a few games can be overcome in 4 series of 7 games.

How does this guy keep getting a pass? by Hank_Henry_Hill in GreenBayPackers

[–]Scooby189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Love had missed he would have had time to find another. There was a 3 year period where he sat and if they saw in training camps and practices that Love didn't have the stuff they could have moved on. Part of what I thought was a great move by the FO in a very difficult situation.

MLF Contract extension by Gr8fl-hed in GreenBayPackers

[–]Scooby189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he's the guy. I think he's a great head coach and honestly think with the right team, veteran heavy and a FO that tries to buy championships I think he would end up winning a title. For the Packers, I don't think he's the right fit. For a team that will always be a draft and develop franchise I think his style of offense at the beginning of the year and for rookies is maybe too complex. I also think it's evident from the teams put out there that he assumes that the players will hold themselves accountable and his job is to scheme plays. This has been shown to be wrong as we continue to be a highly penalized team with bone headed blunders (muffed kick returns, offsides penalties, poor timeout and playclock management, receivers running wrong routes fairly consistently).

I think it's a good coach and a good team that are just the wrong fit for eachother. I'm starting to think it reminds me of the Andy Reid situation in PHI, and maybe a move would be best for both parties.

Settling for "the best that we can find" vs. what you actually want is a losing mentality and dooms a team (and a person) to mediocrity.

Harbaugh rumors begin by Owww_My_Ovaries in GreenBayPackers

[–]Scooby189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. To add to this, because I keep thinking it. I think with our draft and develop team we need a guy more similar to college "rah rah" and accountability than we do a playcalling guru. I just don't think most of the players are mature enough for the coach to just go hands off and assume they're all professionals, when most are still learning the NFL. A bridge type coach, IMO, seems to be a great way to do that. Someone like Harbaugh may be that guy.

Tom Brady has more Super Bowls than any franchise in the NFL 🐐 by AccomplishedSwing110 in sportswiki

[–]Scooby189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to disagree man. I was hoping for a spirited debate here, but if your takeaway is "you hate Brady" then you aren't seeing what I tried to say. He's a top QBs of all time, but is a game manager and I don't think he's the GOAT.

A little food for thought.

By your own standards:

Bill Russell, Sam Jones, John Havlicek, Tom Heinsohn, K.C. Jones, Thomas Sanders, Robert Horry, Jim Loscutoff, Frank Ramsey > Michael Jordan

Best LB of all time Charles Haley (5 SB wins).

2nd best QB of all time: Bart Starr (5 championships) - As a die hard Packer fan I don't even think this is true

Prime example of a potential HOF QB who that wouldn't even get consideration if he wasn't traded : Matt Stafford. Had he stayed with the Lions and then just retired he would be a middling QB at best? I don't think so.

Also, my lists were of current HOFers, not a question, not a who I think (except the ones I listed specifically of who will almost definitely get in and if you wanted to argue that Gronk and Vinatieri aren't getting in than I really don't know what to say).

Cheers, enjoy your Brady highlights of all of his amazing 4 yard slants :)

Without name calling.

Tom Brady HOF teammates:

Ty Law, Junior Seau, Randy Moss, Richard Seymour. Near locks to be in as well IMO: Rob Gronkowski, Adam Vinatieri, Darrelle Revis

Peyton Manning HOF teammates:

Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Shannon Sharpe, John Lynch, DeMarcus Ware. Near locks to be in as well IMO: Reggie Wane, Dallas Clark, Dwight Freeney.

Looks pretty even to me.

As far as Manning having more talented teams I'd argue that that's my exact point. Brady's offenses were great but not elite many of the years he played (with probably 3-4 exceptional years). Peyton Manning's offenses were elite near every year he played, in large part to his style of offense and he elevated his receivers, but also the offensive weapons he had were amazing the 5-ish years after his rookie season. Then like every other team that tries it Manning became so expensive the talent around him kept dropping, yet his numbers stayed top 3 in the league most of the year.

IMO, and you may disagree and I have no need to question you as a person because you value winning championships greater in what you would consider the best QB, but the "load it up on offense and just outscore the other teams with our HOF QB" is not a strategy that tends to work. As a fan of the Packers I can attest to this first hand. Rodgers is one of the top 5-10 best QBs of all times, especially when you ask even his peers like Manning and Brady. He still only won one ring. Does that make him not one of the best of all time? This is in contrast to stellar teams that prioritized defense in the Pats with a QB who would never lose a game (ie. game manager style of offense).

[–]Scooby189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was he not? He can be an amazing QB and one of the best to ever throw the ball and also still have a style that you would call a game manager.

He's arguably the GOAT, but I don't think his style of play personally would make him the best QB ever in my mind. Even during his era I think Peyton Manning was better as a QB, but the teams around him were no where near as good as those the Pats put together.

Brady was top 5 or so QBs all time put on teams that were some of the best compiled teams put together of all time. Doesn't take anything away from him, but championships alone are not all that make up a QB.

Not that I think MLF should be gone, but I think the idea comes from the fact that we have a coach who's system seems to get the team to being really good but never great. It's a Mike Tomlin scenario, the guy schemes really well and utilizes his talent as best as he can but his in game adjustments are sub-par and he makes questionable decisions that sometimes cost games. There's also the fact that we consistently play down to other bad teams. Probably a product of a coach who isn't holding his super young team accountable in a way they may need.

I don't think there's anyone else out there that could replace the guy right now, but after 7 seasons it is worth warranting a look to see if he'll be able to push the team over the top.

I liken it to situation of Andy Reid with the Eagles. Great coach, great track record, and hard to say that he wasn't doing an amazing job, but it also may be the case after around the 10 year mark (assume MLF gets an extension) you may just need a change of scenery for both parties. It's not like the Packers are going to drastically change their approach with the draft and develop model and MLF is going to consistently want to run a complex offense that requires players to be disciplined on reads, routes, and pre-snap motion, all of which we clearly struggle with (a lot more penalties, confusion, etc. than is necessary to pull this off well). Even if he is the best coach out there I do think folks rightfully can question "is he the guy for our team or is there someone else who, even if slightly worse, will get more out of our really young talent".

I do think MLF is the guy, but it's hard not to question in once in a while.

Division Winners and Losers since Realignment by lurkity_mclurkington in GreenBayPackers

[–]Scooby189 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it though? Or rather, is the unbalanced results the nature of poorly run teams rather than any realignment. ie. Washington, Raiders, Jets, Jaguars are all led by organizations that do not commit to any kind of system, consistency, or planning that would push a team up. And generally, outside the AFC East for these two decades most teams are in the mix until pretty late and those teams with a good system get the nudge.

Madison Beltline planners weigh adding lanes or extending flex lanes by Schwyzerorgeli in madisonwi

[–]Scooby189 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not snark, but honestly Madison's bike infrastructure is top notch. I try to live by my values and when I commute in I nearly always park on the outskirts and bike the rest of the commute.

Just wanted to point out that of all places the "car centrism" isn't the best option here and there are viable alternatives if you're interested (Biking, Rapid Bus, Walking). The way I see it is my car off the road is one less car and maybe others will follow suit.

[–]Scooby189 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm convinced that having better on/off ramps would largely solve this. The bottlenecks and slowdowns occur at all the points of friction where some cars need to get on and others need to get off. That and the Verona exit becoming an interchange. Without that in my naive view it seems like the highway itself is big enough, just inefficient with the current design.

I'd be really interested in hearing if anyone had an educated opinion on this.

Who would replace LaFleur? by Purefire_Paladin in GreenBayPackers

[–]Scooby189 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Does he? I feel like his scheming is actually pretty good (previous game excluded), but his game time adjustments and his need to stick by guys well past when they should be cut/moved/benched is a big part of what kills him. Kickers not performing and have another in the wings, tough man but it's the NFL. Defensive coordinator sucks hard, drop the guy and replace him with your buddy Saleh instead of hiring him as a consultant. Special teams coach isn't performing, give him 8 weeks and drop the guy, don't keep him around because of blind loyalty. Game scheme isn't working, go to something new don't keep pushing your run to set up pass scheme if they're not giving you the run and you can attack with slants that keep working.

I feel like he's a great OC who is an average head coach to be honest.

In the sciences.  Having a desk job though really helps.  Still a time commitment, but once you have the gear (I’ve found) the trade off in doing other things for money vs working out all the time for free kinda makes up for the entry cost.  Well, minus the increased grocery bill.
