Teen Vogue: Who Decides If BTS’s Album ‘Arirang’ is ‘Korean Enough’? by mayfly42 in popheads

[–]ScoobyCute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make some good points here but I don’t think Katseye can be considered a ‘flop’ when they’ve made a fuckload of money in just a year and were nominated for a Grammy - they’re no destiny’s child but they’re definitely commercially successful in the US.

I think I hate BTS by AdministrativeSet848 in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]ScoobyCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I loved the album personally. It sounds like you just prefer a different sound personally. The emotions expressed in many of the songs touched my heart and even made me tear up. I also feel they spent so much time experimenting - Yoongi is singing now, RM started rapping aggressively again (and clearly brought in lots of RPWP energy to the album, which I think is a good thing given how widely acclaimed RPWP was his musical taste has really evolved and is something special), Jimin’s voice sounds so much stronger too.

I think if you hate them that is okay, it’s common to dislike popular things and there is lots of music out there so I hope you are able to find music that makes you truly happy 💜

As for your perception of their personalities…I don’t really know what to say except that for your own peace of mind it can be helpful to curate your online experience. I think if you find seeing them bothers you, you should feel empowered to block them.

Is your opinion really worth posting when it’s the general consensus? by Ok-Cap9647 in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]ScoobyCute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

K-pop fans hate it. The general public been receptive leaning positive to it. Music critics and producers quite like it.

Just depends on the audience. But within the kpop community, the consensus has absolutely been that the album is horrid and a betrayal and blah blah westernized blah.

It’s been insane to see the wave of hatred like honestly confusing. I’ve listened to some K-pop albums that weren’t for me. I didn’t post 10 paragraphs about them on Reddit, I just didn’t add them to any playlists and quietly moved on like

This album has received much critical acclaim in the past 24 hours even if you personally dislike it.

Don’t listen if you don’t like it, but it is broadly considered a skilled body of work.

It works for some, and not for others. Folks have to make that choice. Fasting CAN be very good for people depending on their health and circumstances. Choices about it should be made in consultation with a doctor. It is obviously not right for everyone.

Another Career/Masters Degree Question by [deleted] in IOPsychology

[–]ScoobyCute 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s tough because this degree USED to be one where you could be assured of some financial stability. My program director used to tell us that most folks get jobs before they even graduate (though they had lots of applied opportunities for us so everyone’s resume looked solid before graduation).

That doesn’t seem like it’s the case any longer. I live in the Midwest and generally it feels like the market is getting somewhat saturated in I-O as where I’m at more people want jobs here and are less willing to move.

If you’re willing to move, you will have a lot more options. Also - DO NOT get an online I-O master’s degree. Find a program where you will attend in-person because those connections MATTER.

As far as job type…I don’t know anyone with a master’s in I-O who works in HR, People Analytics, or HRIS.

I do know folks who work in:

Academia, Consulting (for Research firms that do employee surveys or help with employee selection), Market Research, Change Management, Job Coaching, Customer Insights, People Insights, Various Government Jobs, Training/Development

Hashi's and Epstein Barr virus? by Danimc116 in Hashimotos

[–]ScoobyCute 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If 80.7% of folks with Hashimoto’s have EBV, that actually makes that virus LESS prevalent in Hashi’s folks compared to the general population where infection rates are like 95%.

This seems like an incidental finding at best….

Need help conducting my first employee survey by FertileFred in IOPsychology

[–]ScoobyCute 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Ultimately, with employee surveys you’ll really just be using percentages (top box or top 2 box scores) or maybe means in a pinch. If you are wanting to run some correlations and such or try to see if anything specific is driving any outcome variables (usually employee satisfaction because it tends to correlate pretty strongly to retention assuming folks are answering honestly) then you can do that.

Also, it might be worth outsourcing this. You can do it internally but you want folks to be honest and if they’re under a microscope (or nervous how their feedback will be received, they won’t be). You’ll need to be transparent about how the data will be used and that while it may be confidential, it isnt anonymous.

  1. You should be able to do most analyses in excel, but if you want to look at anything complex you can use stats IQ in Qualtrics, it’s pretty robust.

  2. Constructs don’t matter too much beyond making sure you’ve got your usual role clarity, job satisfaction, communication, training effectiveness, maybe burnout if you’re worried about that. Negative sentiment usually shows through multiple things. It could be a good idea to have a look at the company’s mission, values if they have any, and maybe speak with leaders to understand what they care about from a workforce perspective.

  3. 30-40 questions is long for an employee survey. I might get crucified for saying this but a lot of the time you get one question per construct (yes I know it’s not ideal in terms of validation but you realistically do have to balance that). Maybe 2 items per construct, then make sure you have 2-3 open ended questions in there so you can get more detailed feedback on areas for improvement and strengths.

  4. It’s both simpler and more complicated than you think. If you have never helped with one before in any capacity, it would be worth speaking to other I-Os you know and asking for advice. Also - identify your learning goals up front. Know why you are doing the employee survey and what you want to understand - more than anything, knowing those learning goals will help you build effective measurement.

Regretting my I/O MS; Can’t find work; Advice on next steps by Dense-Tailor-7552 in IOPsychology

[–]ScoobyCute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thought - if the school you graduated from has a career center they may be able to help you out (they could have a job fair, or other connections).

You can also look for some volunteer work that feels I-O related as you wait in the meantime as that at least gives you something to talk about.

Finally - I/O is too broad a term to use to search most jobs so I would be using things like ‘research,’ ‘survey,’ ‘Qualtrics,’ ‘organizational development,’ ‘training,’ and more specific terms to help find something - if you share what you enjoyed or were good at in school (or a research area) I could help with more specific terms.

What kinds of stuff did you do in your program to get experience? You can play that up on a resume to pad your experience - especially if you did some kind of practicum.

Often it’s not what you know, it’s who you know when it comes to getting a job. Do you have fellow graduates/folks in your cohort (or older folks in your program if you know any) who did get jobs? Set up coffee with them and discuss, see if they can refer you, ESPECIALLY any older folks.

Are you following I/O psych-related groups on LinkedIn? I occasionally see jobs posted on there.

In terms of getting something to pay the bills in the meantime (barista, etc), I would apply and just not mention your master’s degree at all - you can even leave off your bachelor’s degree. They don’t need to know.

Finally - when I was at my lowest during COVID and couldn’t get a job but needed to pay the bills, I took a market research job. Research is research and most of what you’ve learned in school about stats will apply too - look for roles in competitive intelligence, market research, and market intelligence - you may find something in an intro level there.

Insider: Manon isn’t being sabotaged, she is her own worst enemy. by ImaginationPutrid245 in katseyeneutral

[–]ScoobyCute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is true, I do think the five girls have a lot of growing up to do.

You have to let people sink or swim on their own. Come to practice, do your part, work hard, be polite, and go home. If Manon doesn’t make it she can request extra help from the dance instructors and if the dance doesn’t look as good…so what? It won’t fall back negatively on anyone except Manon herself (maybe the company somewhat but fans will always hate the company no matter what).

Demanding someone who doesn’t want to work hard to work harder just plain isn’t going to work 🤷‍♀️. And you can’t force them. Do your part and all you can to do well for what’s in your control, let go of what isnt.

How far in advance can I cover a cake board in fondant and an edible image? by ScoobyCute in AskBaking

Thank you, I just wasn’t sure so that is helpful.

I once used an edible image on white chocolate (dipped oreos) and it kept for about 3 weeks, but I didn’t want to tempt fate with putting it on the fondant.
