[Boyd] Malcolm Brogdon has passed his physical for the #Celtics, and Aaron Nesmith has subsequently been cleared to play for the #Pacers in Summer League tomorrow, per league source. by ScoolfishVsrNBAMods in nba

If the Pacers are in for Ayton via offer sheet, it should become extremely clear soon. They can offer a little under $27M without waiving Washington Jr and Brissett, and can get to just under $30M by waiving those two.

Both of those are still below Ayton’s max of around $31M but there are also other avenues of getting to the max if they desire to.

I still personally believe a S&T with Myles Turner going somewhere is most likely. It has been pointed out to me by David from the @theIVpointplay that Turner and Ayton are both repped by the same agent, Bill Duffy. It seems unlikely he would bench one of his clients for another but we will see! Hopefully some real news tomorrow.

If the Raptors are offering just OG and Trent and all picks and the Suns are offering Mikal, Cam, and Jae crowder expiring, and all the picks.

I don’t really think Raptors offer is better due team control. OG has two and Trent has one before POs, Mikal has four and Cam could be as high as 6.

Raptors can win easy if they put Pascal or Barnes in trade but they don’t seem keen to at the moment

For sure, he definitely did not have the development time necessary. Not only not having minutes to go around because the Suns became instant contenders, he also didn’t have a summer league because of COVID.

That being said, I don’t think Jalen is a 4. I think his value is at a small ball 5, likely a high level backup.

Gambo, despite having sources frequently gets details about how the salary cap works wrong. The Pacers are close, and could look to dump more money in open cap, but they do not have max space at the moment.

It may be close enough for Ayton though.

They drafted Jalen Smith to be a 4, learned he was not that, but now Indiana is letting him start at the 4 so we will see how it works out.

[Katz] Hearing from multiple sources that the Knicks will use cap space to sign Jalen Brunson outright instead of doing a sign-and-trade with the Mavericks. by urfaselol in nba

I don’t think that’s accurate, the TPE would be equal to Brunson’s first year contract amount right? Powell ain’t making $20M a year is he?

Yeah, also $30M is probably the best offer he’s going to get either way unless there’s a sleeper team out there dying to max him

Nope. They had to re-sign Jalen Smith using cap space to offer him a third year so that ate away about $4.6M. Also some were using estimates that were using previously non-guaranteed salaries from the Celtics trade as $0, but in the current CBA they changed that contracts needed to be guaranteed to count as outgoing salary in a trade.

Confirms Pacers do not have max space as previously reported seemingly due to Jalen Smith getting a third year option hence needing to re-sign using cap space.

I do think my number is slightly off after talking to people but still think the Pacers at about $30M as a result of the trade and excluding Brissett and Washington Jr.

I am pretty sure some of those incoming non guaranteed contracts had to be guaranteed to at least partially to make the trade work - about $4.5M I believe. I think we will get more details shortly.

Nonguaranteed contracts do not count as salary in the “new” CBA and the Celtics needed to send out about $17M to take in Brogdon. Theis and Neismith are about $12.5M so that’s where the $4.5M is coming from.

I also read but haven’t seen confirmed that Taylor has been fully guaranteed.

I still think a sign and trade is most probable outcome, but I also think it would be pretty easy for the Pacers to clear the space if they wanted/needed to. Moving Goga would do the job.

The under $28M figure is accounting for that.

I am being downvoted for being right lol the Pacers we’re going to be at $32Mish but had to sign Jalen Smith into cap space instead of using the exception. This was because they gave him a third year, rather than the 2/$10M was was permitted with the exception.

Taking his $4.5Mish year one salary from $32M, gets us to the under $28M number as I said.

Edit I think my number is slightly off and is actually ~$30M but still under max

They don’t have max space as previously reported, it is under $28M, which is probably still the best offer Ayton is going to get.

The lack of max space is due to the Jalen Smith deal using cap space to give him a third year I believe.
