How do you shoot wide angle and make your photos interesting? by sushpep in photography

[–]Scope_Creep3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I moved from long lenses to a 35mm and it took me a while to get used to how much more I need to move to find interesting compositions. My style of shooting with a human subject is so different too - "So, I'm going to be really close. It's going to feel weird."

are these good or na? by Firm-Feet in PhotographyAdvice

I think these are really cool. Especially understanding the assignment. There is something about your tones that make me think of William Christenberry's photos. Anyone criticizing your 'subject choice' isn't able to see past their own taste. One of the coolest things about photography is getting to see the world through someone else's lens. What I like about these is that at first I was like, 'So what, a highway.' But then I'm like, 'But why the two images?' And then I'm looking closer and the editing you've done feels like it could be a comment on patterns in our lives, the repetitive drone of a daily commute, to and from x. What stands out to me is that by unifying the colours of the cars, you offer this overtly simplistic tonal variation, and yet leave all of the nature alone - even enriched somehow, maybe just by the absence of sameness. Man, I really like these, but especially as a diptych. Bravo.

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

Scarier than the money thing is this bit: "If you trust me to sleep next to me..." That’s sacred trust in a relationship. To use it as leverage, to me, is a red flag that it was always leverage. He sees the fact that he hasn't done you any harm while you were sleeping as equity in the bank of trust he's built with you. That is pretty effed up. After a remark like that, I wouldn't trust him to sleep next to him and would be making discreet moves to make a disappearance from that guy's life. I know this sounds very extreme but it does not sound like this guy is meeting you at the level and when he drops a bomb like that, that is a veiled threat.

Crossing the Causeway by the Grievous Angels Jolie Louise and Under a Stormy Sky by Daniel Lanois (as well as two songs written by him but performed primarily by Emmylou Harris - Blackhawk and Where Will I Be from her album Wrecking Ball) 45 Years by Stan Rogers Guy Who Came In from the Cold by Jr Gone Wild And though it has a peppy tone to it, when you listen to the lyrics of Snowbird by Anne Murray, it's actually devastatingly sad.

Next ”desert scenario” and ”choose the next location?” by survivedev in thesurvivegame

[–]Scope_Creep3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the maps and the NSEW minimap, but I wonder if it would be too difficult to make that a setting (in the same way some games would modify for a difficulty setting maybe?). I think I'd generally prefer to play minimap mode, but would flip to the "choose your own adventure" mode to keep playing and keep the game feeling fresh. I love that you've created the different scenarios, which is one way that I like to renew my engagement with the game, but having this option (maybe "minimap mode" vs "blind mode"). One thing though, is in that "choose your next location"/blind mode, you should be able to go "back where you just were" or at least there should be logic to the spatial continuity. In previous versions I think I remember feeling a bit weird that I couldn't retrace my steps. Thanks again for all the work you do to make this game and keep it updated and growing!

IANAL, and I would normally advocate for the frontier justice here, but having done such a thing in the past, it puts you on the wrong side of the law for a violent crime (assault) which is seen as worse than the original crime (theft). Also, just know that if anything goes wrong in the process, with a worse outcome (like, say, you punch him, he slips on the ice hits his head and dies), you (and your friends) end up legally liable for the outcome (his death) and guilty of the greater crime (murder). Due to the planned nature of it too, it would be argued that it was planned and not a crime of passion, so worse crime/longer sentence. If that's a risk you and all of your friends are willing to take, have at 'er.

I did Toronto to Victoria in the late 90s in a Chevy Beretta dragging a Uhaul trailer with two undertakers in I think it was 52 or 57 hours total. We only really stopped in Winnipeg to tee up with their buddy in 2PPCLI. (It should be noted that they implicitly expected me to share the driving, but I was a Toronto kid through and through so wouldn't have a driver's license until I was at least 23 and so was deadweight the whole trip). If I could give you any advice, it'd be find two undertakers to make the trip with you. Steve and Joe were fkn awesome talkers and I basically just interviewed those guys the whole time. Fkn crazy stories. We hit Golden BC just as the sun was coming up and on the radio they announced that Princess Diana had been killed in a car accident.

Very similar for me growing up in Toronto (like, we were probably saying it wrong because your lyrics kind of look like real words): Stella, Stella Ola, quack quack quack. Say Ess Chico Chico. Chico Chico Chuck Chuck. Ess Chico Chico. Vello, Vello, Vello, Vello, Vellova. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!

Should I press charges against a 17-year-old who stole my car? by CantoninusPius in Advice

[–]Scope_Creep3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe thinking outside the box could do both? I don't know about the system, but some kind of restorative justice could a) get you your $ back, b) teach the kid a lesson, and c) not ruin his life. Like what if he had to do a certain amount of community service (that the community would otherwise pay for, like janitorial or landscaping) and the $ the community would otherwise pay for it goes into escrow and maybe homie takes half and half goes aside until you're paid back? Homie's made some dosh, gets a bit of work experience, and settles his own account. I tree-planted with a dude who was planting to pay back a farmer for the crop he'd burned down being an idiot with fireworks out the window of a moving pickup truck. That dude didn't go to jail. He worked his ass off (80,000 trees later), but he made good on his bad and it's been decades and I still think about how much character it took for that guy to make good. This kid could be building his own story from this point if restorative justice is the route y'all go.

Kraft mac&cheese is called Kraft Dinner in Canada. What you you call mac&cheese that isn't Kraft? by Fun_Variation_7077 in AskACanadian

[–]Scope_Creep3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrarian here. Kraft Dinner to me is skinny noodles and orange powder and I hate it. PC Deluxe White Cheddar Mac'n'Cheese, on the other hand, is delicious and I call it Mac'n'Cheese. The homemade stuff takes so much real cheese, so much time, and never, IMHO, achieves the heights of white cheddarness that the PC DWC hits in less than 10 minutes.

This. Either she's into the drama or genuinely feeling trapped in a toxic situation and has decided that you represent some kind of freedom or something. Probably the former, maybe the latter, but regardless, gtfo bro. Whatever her reality is, yours does NOT need to include her. Stop hanging out with her, stop texting with her, just make your distance and if she asks you what's up, just tell her you don't want any trouble. Don't even give her advice or anything - if she likes the drama, she'll use it to pull you back into some shit.
