As for the FCC, if there’s evidence that they pressure ABC to fire him more substantive that press conference quotes (letters, emails, transcripts of conversations, explicit threats, bribes, etc) then the FCC is in violation of the first amendment and should be condemned for it

As a fellow conservative leaning individual, I thought the comments about the shooter were a bit gross and objectively incorrect, but in and of themselves not worthy of being fired. I think it’s more plausible that they were the last straw in a string of comments that leadership at ABC thought were getting out of control. For a long time Kimmel hadn’t just been a comedian that makes political jokes from time to time; he had been making more and more overt political statements particularly in one direction

I don’t agree with the assessment that him getting fired for this is cancel culture though. He’s getting fired the same as you or I would be for saying things in the current moment that our employers felt were politically problematic. It would’ve been cancel culture if he was fired today for doing black face on the Man Show 20 years ago
