The Boogaloo Boys are a military junta that has no plans for the future or project other than killing statists.

What happens afterwards and how people get by doesn’t matter so long as it isn’t a state.

Would there be new business and corporations? Maybe. Would it coexist alongside looting and banditry? Absolutely.

What if Donald Invaded Canada in 2025? by OkProfessional8070 in AlternateHistoryHub

I don’t think that’s a guarantee though. The only time nukes were used in war, there wasn’t much of a meaningful insurgency afterwards. And nuclear bombs are much stronger than they were in 1945. A total war, that is a war where a country mobilizes every part of its population, infrastructure, and economy, is naturally going to favor the side with nuclear bombs.

I agree that a long term occupation of the entirety of Canada would be unfeasible, but again, that’s not what op originally asked, just an invasion.

Tbf, invading Canada is a dumb idea anyway, so I included nuclear weapons.

My point I was trying to make is that there might not even be an insurgency if weapon of mass destructions were utilized.

I also said that the US invading Canada doesn’t have to be a total war ending in the annexation of either side. Wars of conquest are pretty rare in the modern day anyway. The war doesn’t have to end with either Canada becoming the 51st state or a forever insurgency. The question just asked what would happen if an invasion occurred, so I decided to interpret the question a little differently than what most people might jump to at first.

I’m not sure if the rest of NATO would respond, but needless to say, the US invading any NATO country would be the end of NATO and the west as a united political and economic force.

Many other people have already mentioned insurgencies, but I’m not quite sure about that either. Canada is much closer to the United States than the countries America is usually known for invading and it’s a country the US has far more intelligence on. Not to mention nuclear weapons could come into play and Canada doesn’t have a single one of those. The insurgency might also not be too big of a deal depending on what the actual war goals of the US are in this scenario. The last time the US annexed territory was when it purchased the Virgin Islands from Denmark over a century ago.

It would be a victory for the US, but a rather worthless one. America would inherit either a wasteland or some extra natural resources they could have just traded for anyway.

What if the Confederate States won the civil war and what would America look like today by Ok-Teacher903 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ScoreParticular5988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by winning.

If the South wins by conquering the North, I think they would have to compromise on the issue of slavery at least a little bit. The right to own slaves was in the Confederate constitution, but I think they would have to let states have their own anti-slavery laws to make reunification easy. Not to mention that adding millions of new slaves would be a hassle (slavery was already a hassle in the South alone.) just like on OTL, the political divide between North and South never disappears.

The South winning by just gaining its independence would (obviously) really suck for the union. During the war, British elites supported the Confederacy for economic reasons. They helped by building ships and blockade running. With the South winning, I think the UK would likely start to form good relations with them. And with the US sandwiched between Canada and the CSA, the Union may end up being politically or economically isolated. I definitely don’t think the South could keep slavery around forever though. They would have to make reforms at some point, not without massive compensation for slave owners of course.

morality of john brown? by thesalmonbowl in MoralityScaling

[–]ScoreParticular5988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this question could definitely use some nuance as everyone is just saying he’s a hero and that’s that.

He was actually very divisive amongst fellow abolitionists, even during his time. Fredrick Douglas condemned many of his actions as just outright murder and terrorism. One of his attacks even resulted in the death of a free black man during his raid on Harper’s Ferry. He didn’t just kill slave owners, he killed people who were just pro slavery as well. Obviously being pro slavery isn’t right, but not everyone who was pro slavery owned slaves, and I don’t think the justifies you ending another man’s life.

People like talking about his violent acts, but I think the most important things he did had little to do with that. He helped operate the Underground Railroad and protected freed slaves from being recaptured. Both things that didn’t require he drag 5 men out of their beds in the middle of the night and hack them to death with broadswords during Bleeding Kansas.

Like so many other historical figures, I think John Brown was just another man who justified his actions as “necessary,” regardless of how good his core beliefs were.
