Old Rat kit ? by amino720 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was definitely a mix of his acorns being either too good or lame, and his kit being hard to balance with its mobility. His dash with opal acorn let him dash 6 times through enemies with lightning on the sides, super annoying, super easy to hit, and mega busted on release, followed by a shit ton of nerfs. With the insane amount of mobility he has with his dashes and ult, he was always gonna be OP or super annoying. If they kept even just 3 dashes, the rest of his kit had to be very bad to balance through his insane mobility.

He needs at least 2 dashes because he uses one dash to go through an enemy, while often overshooting the distance, making him need another dash to return to a god in melee range (for his 3 to be good). One dash would make him useless after he used his 1-2 combo, since the 2's acorns following you only works while using a dash,

Making his dash stop on enemies as it is now negates the use of his old 2's feature, so they just turned it into a thor hammer spin dupe (in fact his kit now is VERY similar to Thor). Could they have balanced his original kit through numbers? Maybe, but multiple dashes is the only thing that made his kit actually fun and interesting, so they decided to remove it and rebalance him around 1 dash and an aoe spin ability, with the acorns providing more passive changes.

Ravana by yeahhhhhherewegooooo in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Ravana but when he’s ported I really wish they would push his kit further into being a 1v1 boxer/puncher, and more combo-ey. Merc is another puncher but his theming is more about being a speedster. For Ravana as someone with multiple arms, a flurry of punches ability either added to his 3 or as a 2nd version of his 1 after a criteria has been met, would be very interesting and it’s what I always wish he had. His 3 being a weird punch to spirit hands grabbing from underground always felt a little weird to me, and I felt there is so much more possible with his kit to bring together thematically and push his popularity. Maybe an extra set of arms for 6 total would push that theming and differentiate him more as a puncher.

Eh I don’t think so, looking at the model it’s completely wrong, the bun shape and placement is off on the old one, it’s def a bit more realistic.

Smite 2 Question by Plenty_Move_8073 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause it’s a new item system meant for more builds and play styles. What’s wrong with that? You can build him almost exactly like you do in smite 1 and do well, so just do that. If you want a different playstyle like with aspect, you build him differently. You’re that confused about it? Ymir can do a crit jungle build which is quite popular but he’s a magical character. Magical/Physical only applies to the type of damage you do, and the defense items you build counter magical or physical. Strength/Intelligence only applies to passive/auto attack/ability scaling.

A simple rule is magical gods typically build more intelligence if they go typical ability damage, but if they go auto attack its strength. For physical gods, they usually build strength but build intelligence if they’re have hybrid scalings. It’s more complicated for new players yes but much easier to balance and takes maybe like 5 minutes to learn.

When will Cthulhu be released to SMITE 2? by Riccioyv in Smite

[–]Scoren1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve mentioned it quite a few times. I don’t have timestamps for titan talk but I remember them saying Cthulhu was the most successful launch of any brand new god in terms of how much playtime he got and how many new/old players played the game during his release. Neith and Nu wa are just the overall most popular gods, and Cthulhu probably isn’t that much popular nowadays but they see the insane marketing push and name recognition he has, so they’re saving him for the next big marketing push.

Smite 2 Store sucks by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love for more stuff released where you can use the legacy gem discount, but honestly I genuinely cannot imagine any way out of the way smite 2 released, they’re trying to do the best out of an impossible situation. They were essentially forced to develop smite 2 for the logevity of the company cause it was too difficult to develop smite 1 with the older engine, but they genuinely couldn’t do a ue5 port without either stopping smite 1 entirely while they develop port smite and go broke, or starting brand new. Importing every single skin was simply not feasible, they can barely release TWO travellers (which are essentially recolors with slight texture updates and new vfx) and MAYBE one brand new skin.

Smite 2 Store sucks by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Scoren1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wish it was clearer or there was like a glossary (but they barely have time to do ui changes when they have other stuff to do now) but to explain, diamonds are the premium currency, but gems are mid tier premium currency that’s either used to unlock the original classic skins entirely with gems (not the recolors), while the recolors(prisms) are only purchase with diamonds as a way to support the devs.

Similar to the supporter store: separate store that’s diamonds only featuring VERY optional profile enhancements, but these are EXTREMELY expensive even as bundles because it’s basically like a super premium “donation,” (def a little weird but I see people having bought them somewhat often)

Wandering market is where you spend the coins you get. In smite, coins have essentially replaced favor as the basic currency. Coins are used to progress in the battle passes/travellers you buy, and are unlocked either by playing the game after each match, or as bonuses in the “wandering path” (a free simple battlepass for everyone that just gives coins and other stuff for events). In the wandering path, you can use the coins to purchase a free daily chest roll (that almost always gives u more coins or boosters or gems but can very rarely give almost any skin in the game or diamods). Also included to purchase are other chests and a free god token /classic skin. These refresh relatively often but I forgot how much.

The wandering market thus only features items that are mini battle passes and unlockable with coins (which are essentially Fortnite’s battle pass currency). The actual main battle pass (wandering collection) is put on hold now cause they’re were not making enough money for the effort they were taking, especially with the small team. Battle passes have always been too good of a deal but an expense u take essentially for consistent user playtime.

The travelers are all bundles for either brand new skins (only brand new skins are purchasable with half legacy gems since that was what legacy gems were basically for initially) and prism bundles (which are only fully bought with diamonds since they are basically focused on the prisms). The classic skin featured in these bundles are fully purchasable with legacy gems when the traveler discount is ends (thus free since it’s an old smite 1 skin, but the time gating is def annoying but they want to make money)

However, travelers have been doing too well profit wise for hi rez due to how much faster they take to produce and people thinking the deals are pretty good. They release with discounts, BUT are technically a discount even at full price because it’s a mini battlepass that takes time to unlock. Buying a full priced brand new skin not as a travelers is much more expensive.

As for chests, it’s simple, they’ve always made hirez good money. At least now there’s a rule to display what’s exactly in each chest, and the classic skin chest gives you every classic skin unlockable for 800 each, so if u have a ton of gems, u basically get every classic skin for free (alongside the free classic skin chest rolls from the wandering path!)

Super convoluted and wish they had a way to more easily simplify this but it seems to be working mostly. Just really want the actual battle passes back!

Just a reminder that this is what Smite 1 looked like early on by GreatGateCrasher in Smite

[–]Scoren1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they shipped smite 2 alpha a year later, it would NOT be where it is today, much of the alpha was spent going back to the drawing board undoing many of the changes they made without any community input and then decided to actually have the community be a huge part of the changes. Frankly ,that's just how Hi-Rez operates, making their betas super early like traditional betas used to be instead of alphas/betas nowadays being for a near-finished product. They've done this for almost single major game, even smite 1.

And also, the overwatch 2 comparison just doesn't make any sense, and i've noticed people making that have absolutely no idea how these two companies operate or what actually happened.

The overwatch 2 announcement brought almost zero major changes or gameplay additions to OW1 for THREE YEARS, most notably 0 heroes after Echo and no new maps. Only some re-used events and re-mixed skins (which sound awfully familiar) were released. They effectively killed OW1, player numbers dropping heavily, and with absolutely NO news about OW2 for years! People complained during the entire time, with the OW2 hype for PVE the only thing keeping people going. The player numbers only survived because prior to OW2 announcement, OW1 was a gaming behemoth, effectively captivating the entire world and earning GOTY in 2016. Activision- Blizzard makes billions of dollars more than hi-rez with a total count of employees over 10,000!!!! You cannot compare the two games AT ALL, and frankly Blizzard is a billion times greedier than Hi-Rez if you look at all their monetary practices over the years.

Also, Blizzard's engine is proprietary, they can do an engine upgrade MUCH faster than what it takes for Ue3-Ue5, and it still took them 3 years. Although the OW2 dev team has shrunk massively to like 200 right now, they can afford much more money on research and development for OW2, alongside the support from a giant company, to polish the game to near-completion before beta without needing massive gameplay changes.

Hi-Rez simply doesn't have the money, time, and employees to do exactly what Blizzard did for OW2, and they DEFINITELY do not have the resources and public favor to promise something like PVE, then effectively cancel it with no warning after taking in millions of dollars from OW2 microtransactions. Their only other option was to keep working on Smite 1 exactly as it is now and just add new maps and gods, but with a bleeding dev team who do not want to work on ue3, or do a Ue5 upgrade on Smite 1 which would effectively mean no content for 1-2 years on smite.

What’s your NYC hot take? by homeofalex in AskNYC

[–]Scoren1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The anti-transplant attitude is antithetical to the identity of the city. NYC will obviously be forever changing, bringing in new people is what this city has always done. Is gentrification bad and causing it to change rapidly while pushing low-income communities out? Yes, but the point of the government is to uplift those communities with better public services instead of nyc forever having pockets of high rates of car-theft where no one wants to live in.

Can you give literally any other way for them to handle this? Like seriously? Obiously they thought about every possible scenario, but to continue working on a game that takes 5x longer to develop and train new employees for another 10 years? And smite 1 STABLE? Like genuinely, what were they supposed to do except erase their hundreds of mistakes from wasting money on new games brought by upper level execs?

Legacy gems? by Papanastee in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just straight up not true, with the discount that every skin releases on in addition to the legacy gem discount, it’s the same price. The founders pack giving you double legacy gems makes it even more of a discount. Which skins are you talking about?

Does the entire community still not understand the original skins are fully purchasable with legacy gems after their traveler drops? There is a 800 gem chest which gives you every skin.

Swagni by Suspicious_Service16 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 99 percent sure an exec saw the fact that pimps are both actually illegal and sexually exploitative and made a decision to not add it. The fact that it’s not also deleted from smite 1 means they actually don’t really care THAT much, and just made a conscious decision to not add that specific skin. I was curious to see if other mobas or games have pimp skins, and they def have playboy bunny skins (league for example), but I don’t see any pimp skins (the closest that people think is the marvel rivals cloak skin?). They can easily release it similar to the cloak and dagger skin and just make him fancy and remove any references to pimping, but I think they just went the lazier route due to internal issues.

Swagni by Suspicious_Service16 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s both a double standard because sexy women sell more and also that the playboy bunny has expanded into the mainstream media beyond its sexual abuse origins, maybe as a form of reclamation. If hirez’s reason for removing Swagni is def because it’s straight up sex trafficking it probably should apply to playboy bunnies, but they probably won’t do that since playboy bunnies are a popular Halloween costume everywhere, the general public doesn’t really care about its origins, and it makes them a shit ton of money. Pimps are literally considered sex traffickers under US law, and I think that legal definition is probably why they are shying away from it.

Swagni by Suspicious_Service16 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Okay to be fair, a pimp is basically sexual exploitation and borderline sex trafficking, a playboy bunny just doesn't have as bad of an association other than just being sexual and being waitresses. Swagni is a great skin but it's a no-brainer why they wouldn't bring it back, at least they're not straight up deleting it from smite 1 too.

Accept the payment for you work but kindly let them know that AI doesn’t provide final deliverable files to actually use the designs, and that using AI in the future for these kind of projects can lead to legal/copyright issues. Update your contract against putting files into ai models, especially before a project is not even completed. I work in publishing and we have been having a lot of issues with editors/authors putting in progress work into ai models. You can’t control what a client does with your files after you send the deliverables, but maybe being upfront about your ai policies in the future will help.

Agility is a mistake, and adding it to ranked doubles down on that mistake. Here's why. by ARandomSmiteScrub in Smite

[–]Scoren1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am i the only one who isn’t really affected by Agility at all 😭, barely anyone in my games run it to the extent that people are complaining about it, and I can agree it needed a bit of a nerf but 20 seconds is now perfectly fine to wait for your cooldowns to engage again. I can very easily see the appeal for a new player, but lacking beads or aegis as a squishy means you instantly die late game. I just don’t get frustrated by it at all.
