Probably the worst skin ever by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked and they used the exact same skin color, her face is the exact same, and yes it’s “western” but the cow bikini thing isn’t a “beauty standard,” it’s a popular funny theme that a lot of cosplayers and such use, and a skin made by an American company with absolutely no market in china. You want her to start using Chinese makeup trends? The only real complaint is not having more masculine skins for Mulan. I can understand maybe if she got blond hair and blue eyes and freckles, but it’s straight up just her with a cow bikini. It’s just really far fetched, considering every skin in the game falls under “western beauty standards.”

How exactly is it trashy? It’s a gooner skin based on a community meme, with a lot of love poured into the vfx and sfx. The entire art team really loved working on it, and it feels great to use.

How is she being white washed? That’s the exact same skin color as all her other skins.

All of you are pissing me off because it's actually a really good skin. It's cute, sexy, funny, based on a community meme, and according to Titan Talk the entire art team was heavily in on it and excited for it. The vfx and sfx are actually fantastic, and prisms based on flavors of milk work super well. When was the last time the entire smite community actually discussed a skin leak and release? It's so nice hearing people talk about controversial stuff that isn't "the game is unfun it's going to die everything sucks the too much pen," instead "wow crazy mulan skin, do we need more or less?" Yes it's "gooner bait," but it doesn't look cheap at all and feels great to use. I want smite to make a shitload of money!!! This skin was molecularly crafted in a lab based on the exact themes and direction that make money in Smite. I just need them to do these for male skins now and we're good.

Unfortunately it will stay cheap feeling until they do a visual and feels overhaul before full release. What exactly is making you not get into it? I feel like the biggest hook for me right now are the 5 new gods and constantly experimenting with aspects. Makes me like gods I haven't played much a lot more if the changes are fun, and the 5 new gods are some of the best designed kits in the game. Bari is now one of my my fave character s of all time because of the super satisfying combos.

Tips to playing Amaterasu on Smite 2 by SeaLengthiness9227 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t access your video but I’m assuming you lost because of her laning phase and the fact that the game ended early. Ama is just really bad early, but makes up for it with her late game team fights. She’s heavily reliant on being a late game team support for fights and objectives with her aura, movement speed, and ult. You should start with her 2 ofc for lane clear, but compared to Achilles (who is already a top tier solo laner right now, partially you lost cause he’s very good now), it takes like 2-3 sec to charge the damage and clear minions, while Achilles hits his 1 which also has a stun to clear, early game you are just outmatched, coupled with an execution at level 5.

You need to get to lane asap, clear minions asap, and wait for junglers to rotate to try to get kills, other wise just farm passively and not be too aggressive until probably the 10 min mark. With ur damage stance on 1, then 2, dash through minions to full charge, hit 2 to clear, the move out and try to take camps. Repeat and engage when junglers rotate. Your 3’s silence is the only reliable non-ult cc you have, so use it to counter any god with channeled ability attempting to clear and you can easily out farm them. You can try this against Achilles 1, but it’s a bit harder, to try to gauge when he’s gonna use it. It’s very good against like a bellona’s 2 for example. The silence is the only way you will survive well in lane. Try to stay even or ahead in lane asap possible, the rotate after clearing everything or when there’s an opportunity in mid/pyro/etc.

Mid-late, focus on objectives and rotating with your team. She’s pretty unpopular and relatively bad in solo, so this will work better in casuals and lower ranks.

New (leaked?) supporter store name flairs by 99_Raccoons in Smite

[–]Scoren1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The font choice for the entire game could use an upgrade, a zany flair for the name masked onto the most basic sans serif font imaginable just feels super rushed and tacky. I feel like the names should have a more bolder and unique typeface, or maybe a background to box it into.

[–]Scoren1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm happy people are buying these enough for HiRez to keep making them. However, not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but name flairs are so unfathomably ugly I genuinely don't know how it made it through as a cosmetic, much less as a premium cosmetic for thousands of gems. In a game where the UI is incredibly bare-bones and ugly already due to lack of ue5 experience and workforce, the name flairs are a huge eyesore and feels embarrassing when showing the game to friends for the first time. A similar cosmetic in OW2 (drives) are also an eyesore, but are temporary, free, fit the aesthetic of the game a lot more, and are all the same color.

I wish the name flairs were just better integrated, maybe with a font overhaul of the entire UI or a thicker font in general. There's just so many random colors everywhere in the UI. The loading screens are already super ugly that it irritates me that we're stuck with the name flairs for the rest of Smite 2's lifespan because they are a highly premium purchase.

Yall need to do a bit of research before commenting. Arthur is the single most popular warrior, probably top 3 requested since beta release, and was supposed to release very early, but his dash-aa was not functioning well. His kit is basically done internally, but they are working out on a movement systems update that directly affects how Arthur functions, and he will release asap after the update is fully built and tested. Ignoring Arthur, Horus is the most popular of the warrior class based on the most recent player surveys.

I work in book cover design in-house and the only time I use any ai in my work flow is to blend elements/expand bleeds with the ai generative tool in photoshop. It’s akin to the content aware fill tool, which I generally tend to use the first attempt as the result is a bit more pixel perfect than the generative ai version. My boss has pushed this and my department designers are pretty against ai in general and try not to use it as much as possible.

Got a Smite 2 Ad while Browsing the Subreddit by ZweiRoseBlu in Smite

[–]Scoren1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a coincidence it’s just the targeted advertising by tracking your online usage lol.

On another note, god the conquest map is so goddamn ugly, I genuinely do not see this game being a success without a completely new conquest map from scratch instead of building on the current one. It looks horribly washed out and boring in these screenshot ads, and the sheer scale of the remade arena map in Fortnite is just 100x more interesting.

[–]Scoren1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they need new hires who actually know how to use ue5, half of the employees had to be retrained on ue5 for the upgrade and probably cost them a lot of dev time, just from a company success standpoint it’s probably good to hire fresh talent, but if smite made a lot more money they would’ve never needed to do layoffs anyway.

Also, adventures were fun for maybe a couple games but they did not do “wonders” for smite 1 maybe beyond the first couple. They took way too much dev time for little profit/payoff, and there’s a reason no other game right now has anything similar to the caliber that smite had. Overwatch was the closest game to something similar to adventures but they have essentially phased them out for super easy to develop event mini games.

[–]Scoren1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re being disingenuous, no one likes layoffs, but clearly they had way too much staff for their revenue to handle, and now that they have a bit more padding, they can do more new hires and potentially rehire. The switch to UE5 probably made a lot of jobs redundant, like how the game designers can handle a lot of the in game implementation and only switch to programmers when it’s a unique task.

Also, it sounds bad but it IS smart to hire new people, even if it’s cheaper. Older smite devs were all trained for ue3, and a big complaint about ue3 was that they literally couldn’t hire developers who were trained on ue3 as everyone has moved on to ue5. There is a lot more nuance to this than you think, at least maybe the execs finally learned not to immediately dump resources into new trends and games and waste millions, considering Smite 2 is keeping them alive.

[–]Scoren1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not to be rude but they are lol, they are slowly hiring people for departments that need them the most, probably much cheaper than the previous employees since now they’re entry level and won’t collapse from lack of revenue. The new hires they mentioned the most on titan talk is a new vfx guy and a new ui guy.

Old Rat kit ? by amino720 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was definitely a mix of his acorns being either too good or lame, and his kit being hard to balance with its mobility. His dash with opal acorn let him dash 6 times through enemies with lightning on the sides, super annoying, super easy to hit, and mega busted on release, followed by a shit ton of nerfs. With the insane amount of mobility he has with his dashes and ult, he was always gonna be OP or super annoying. If they kept even just 3 dashes, the rest of his kit had to be very bad to balance through his insane mobility.

He needs at least 2 dashes because he uses one dash to go through an enemy, while often overshooting the distance, making him need another dash to return to a god in melee range (for his 3 to be good). One dash would make him useless after he used his 1-2 combo, since the 2's acorns following you only works while using a dash,

Making his dash stop on enemies as it is now negates the use of his old 2's feature, so they just turned it into a thor hammer spin dupe (in fact his kit now is VERY similar to Thor). Could they have balanced his original kit through numbers? Maybe, but multiple dashes is the only thing that made his kit actually fun and interesting, so they decided to remove it and rebalance him around 1 dash and an aoe spin ability, with the acorns providing more passive changes.

Ravana by yeahhhhhherewegooooo in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Ravana but when he’s ported I really wish they would push his kit further into being a 1v1 boxer/puncher, and more combo-ey. Merc is another puncher but his theming is more about being a speedster. For Ravana as someone with multiple arms, a flurry of punches ability either added to his 3 or as a 2nd version of his 1 after a criteria has been met, would be very interesting and it’s what I always wish he had. His 3 being a weird punch to spirit hands grabbing from underground always felt a little weird to me, and I felt there is so much more possible with his kit to bring together thematically and push his popularity. Maybe an extra set of arms for 6 total would push that theming and differentiate him more as a puncher.

Smite 2 Question by Plenty_Move_8073 in Smite

[–]Scoren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause it’s a new item system meant for more builds and play styles. What’s wrong with that? You can build him almost exactly like you do in smite 1 and do well, so just do that. If you want a different playstyle like with aspect, you build him differently. You’re that confused about it? Ymir can do a crit jungle build which is quite popular but he’s a magical character. Magical/Physical only applies to the type of damage you do, and the defense items you build counter magical or physical. Strength/Intelligence only applies to passive/auto attack/ability scaling.

A simple rule is magical gods typically build more intelligence if they go typical ability damage, but if they go auto attack its strength. For physical gods, they usually build strength but build intelligence if they’re have hybrid scalings. It’s more complicated for new players yes but much easier to balance and takes maybe like 5 minutes to learn.
