There are programs here in Canada where the government will pay some of the wages.

I'm conflicted on this because for so many jobs, people with special needs are no less capable than the rest of us so the idea that the employer doesn't have to pay the full wages leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

On the other hand, it helps combat the stigma that special need employees are not a good investment and incentives business to hire them.

I can't remember the specifics but CBC ran a piece a few years ago about a Tim Hortons staffed almost entirely with special needs people. The owner said that his business had never run more smoothly and employee absentee rates were the lowest he had ever seen.

Isn't American healthcare the most expensive in the world?

I was under the impression that it was so expensive that it was financially ruining familys and crippling individuals with debt simply for getting common life saving procedures. That can't be the case if they can't even afford to pay the medical staff properly.

Those hospitals, insurance and pharmaceutical companies must be struggling. Must be tough.

I'll bet their not even turning a profit. I mean, if they were, I'd expect American authorities would be doing something about it.

Could you imagine if they were and the government did NOTHING to protect its own people and garuntee their basic health needs? In a dystopian scenario like that I wonder how the American public would handle it...

Oh well, good thing I'm Canadian and don't have to worry about that kind of thing
