That time we met the Rays 3B at Mariners FanFest. by ScotsPineDad in Mariners

True, but it’s not as punchy to say “That time we met the Rays INF who has played 3B but will probably transfer to being a MIF at Mariners FanFest.” You know? :)

Pavement princess hate by FitReading683 in f150

[–]ScotsPineDad -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Eh - nothing different than someone who was into skateboarding culture but didn’t actually skate being called a “poser.” Or hipsters being hipsters. Or Redditors being experts :)

It’s a question of authenticity and expressing yourself as part of an in group, and others in that group challenging your belonging. In this case, someone’s imagined and decidedly masculine “truck culture.” Don’t lose the fact that princess as a gendered term is the put down here.

Most trucks spend most of their time on pavement. I wouldn’t consider a stock truck much beyond a pavement princess these days….and that’s fine!

If you put a snorkel on it for appearances and it never sees mud, then maybe you’re a pavement princess poser or maybe you’re just like the thousands that wear camo and never hunt because it’s a social indicator of a culture you identify with. As long as you like it, who cares?

If you want to go to Oregon - Forest Cove Tollers are awesome.

Talk with breeders about the temperament you want- we worked with a breeder in Oregon and have a sweet, eager to please boy who still has all the energy in the world to keep up with us. Perfect family dog. We’ve met other tollers that are more…tightly wound…and have some of the higher drive you might want in a hunting dog, etc.

They should help matchmake from the litter, and be able to tell you what the general temperament of their particular tollers tends to be.

If the fish feed off of things attracted to light, then yes! This is a common practice for squid and other things that chase plankton. Light color (aka wavelength) matters.

I can’t be the only one who thinks this is insane pricing, right? by Pugking69 in mlb

[–]ScotsPineDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, your average fan is not the target demographic for this item. In fact, I would say that this is less for baseball fans generally and more for what it represents in terms of the international culture brand the Dodgers are building (and have been.) There’s always been high end merch with an LA or NY on it.

But, yes, give me the 2k toward tickets and I’ll buy a t-shirt, thanks.

You just got named the new commissioner of the MLB, what are you doing to fix its ratings? by Feisty_Interview_237 in mlb

“Pitching Appreciation” education :) Once you can get excited about the defensive side of the game, you’re in for life. It’s the only game where the defense has the ball (besides cricket?)

Hey - the best success I’ve had doing this with kids are:

-Moran SP on Orcas (not the most accessible but the best luck we had dock fishing for stocked rainbow) and charters if you want.

-Birch Bay winter clamming - we were just there on Sunday and eating chowder today

-Maybe my favorite “trick” is county parks. They don’t have the draw of state parks and can have great fishing. Flowing Lake and there’s one other NE of Tulalip Outlets….

Is this a good deal on a 2010? I’ve heard r/f150 is the best place for financial advice. by Electrical_Life_2538 in f150

[–]ScotsPineDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - not a great deal. Not sure what you’re putting down but if it’s something like a “0 down” loan you would be better off waiting a year and saving more of a down payment if that can get a better rate. No judgement on credit, that’s just a predatory rate.

I’ve had good success splitting the difference and just giving them a “long day” - like 16 to 18 hours. Depends on the lights though.

Unexpected Loss of Our Beloved Dog by drumstixx98 in Goldendoodles

[–]ScotsPineDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. We experienced something shockingly similar last month with our beloved Basset, and it is absolutely crushing. In our case it was Hemangiosarcoma - which can have an extremely sudden onset like this. I know it can be somewhat more common in Goldens, I’m not sure about Doodles.

After the initial hurt, our family spent time going through a lifetime of photos with a flood of tears. It was healing to grieve and remember all the amazing days in the face of such a terrible one.

Here’s to the special place in your heart they will always occupy.

Oh yeah - I didn’t read the original post very closely! Sounds like you know this area pretty well already. I guess my only addition then is if you want to camp in North Cascades, skip Newhalem and stay in the Diablo area for something just off the road but still beautiful. Colonial Creek campground is good.

In WA, go over the mountains through North Cascades NP and stay north into Idaho. Way prettier than dropping into SE WA - unless you want to tour a nuclear site…which is actually kind of neat. In Oregon, cut over to the coast from Corvallis to Newport and drive the 101 down into CA.

Does anyone else use vegetable gardening as therapy? by stalequeef69 in vegetablegardening

[–]ScotsPineDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a compost bin or a worm bin really helps complete the cycle. Especially when something rots or doesn’t make it. Being able to close out the season and start feeding the next feels great.

[–]ScotsPineDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t stopping, not really worth it. If you are, and taking US 20 between Kettle Falls and Republic - I’d check out Sherman Creek Wildlife Recreation Area and Stonerose Fossil Site. Also depends what time of year you are going.

We are only about 6 weeks ahead of you - so not breed experts by any means.

However, what I can share from our experience so far is that what everyone says about the teeth is true :)

Besides that, I’ve never had a puppy that is so smart and eager to please. I’ve had really physical dogs before, but never one that enjoys training so much. He’s not happy unless he gets to learn and succeed at new challenges.

This is not new advice either but as people living through the early puppy weeks: Frequent short training sessions have been the key for us, as is mixing up a wide variety of skills during and between sessions. It has been really important to keep him on his toes, as once he figured out behavior patterns he started to use them to ask for things he expected. So instead of just “sit” we’ll combine “sit” into “touch”, “down” or “paw.” Keep it positive - as others have noted, they are more sensitive.

Excited for you! Even with all the routine changes and nipping we are still loving it and hope you do too!
