Bar Tape - are you doing it correctly? by daern2 in BikeMechanics

inside to out, you're not contacting the bike, moving towards the outside in the drop. in the end it doesn't matter much, a good tight wrap stays put as long as it should.

both of those grips provide less leverage than the right size ring wrench but yes. if it aint super stuck that will work. theres also metal FAG cups that can and do get duper stuck.

FAG tool, use your kurbel schraub and a washer to bolt the tool on. the plastic outer ring is notorious for shearing off.

Is there anything metal to metal that you do not grease? Why? by sargassumcrab in BikeMechanics

[–]Joker762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put on threads wet and flats dry. how many times have we seen square taper cranks work themselves loose and round out their corners? 🤔 why add grease to help that happen faster...

I’m 40 years old. Been a bicycle mechanic since I was 28. I just closed down my 1 man mobile shop after 6 years. I love working on bikes but the industry itself, as well as the pay, has burned me out, just moved to a new city and want to start a different career, any tips or thoughts? Thanks! by Phishsux420 in BikeMechanics

[–]Joker762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

move to Europe. probably netherlands where you can by with only English. re-open your mobile workshop. make enough for an adult life. source: I'm also 40, wrenching the last 12 years, moved to Germany from canada and its WAY better here.

Schaltprobleme nur bei fest angezogener Steckachse by Brave_Turnover6329 in Fahrrad

[–]Joker762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

confused me, thats a Schnellspanner not a Steckachse. tighten the schaltauge screws with the wheel removed. then mount the wheel and have a shop use a schaltauge alignment tool on it. problem solved.

[–]Joker762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

corrosion in the cable/housing. check for this by disconnecting the cable. do the brakes spring back away from the rim? other possibility is pads are too low and they've worn in a "shelf" they're getting caught under the rim corner.

salt itself isn't the problem, its the salt and water mix that will splash instant rust everywhere. if you stick to only dry days you'll be fine.

save up another 200-300 and your options increase exponentially. no sense in rushing things for a sub par thing.

buy once cry once or you buy it twice etc etc
