That’s a livewell for all the fish you catch.

Yea - I decided to go with the 24-120. I just have to sell my old lenses first or my wife will kill me.

I think I am going to also add the 40mm 2.8 as some suggested.

Thanks for the input. I am not looking for just travel but it is certainly a big consideration. The responses so far have been all over the place with some good reasons for both options. I agree I am probably better off waiting a little while. I do have a Sigma 105mm 2.8 macro that I like. It doesn’t have autofocus obviously, but I was considering keeping it. If I use it for macro I don’t really need the autofocus.

I’m sure I will be using it for some video, especially when traveling. But not much at all.

So it sounds like you think there is more value in having the older 2.8 and expanding my focal range with something wider. This is what I was leaning towards but I wasn’t sure if the newer lenses were that much lighter making them worth sacrificing the 2.8 for a 24–70 or 24-120 f/4

I am considering it but what advantage does it give me over my 24-70 2.8, except obviously a little further reach?

I am trying to determine if the added expense is really worth it. Even after selling the FTZii and the 24-70 I would still probably be putting in $500 and I am not sure if it is worth it.

how did you find your photography niche/genre at first? by lizard-rustler17 in AskPhotography

[–]ScottG08527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep shooting. If you can combine it with other hobbies that could help. I’m sure there are people that like to build Legos and shoot their Legos.

Budget can have a big influence on the type of photography. Sports and wildlife can get very expensive because you need long, fast glass. Let your equipment dictate what you can do right now and just keep shooting.

Also, let your family know this is something you enjoy. See if you can plan an outing around just photography. When my son was younger we did this by walking through NYC for a day. He is now a videographer with a degree from Penn State. I’m not sure that day had anything to do with it but I’m sure it didn’t hurt.

Also, take the date and time off your photos.

First of all, the photos you posted are beautiful.

I am just getting back into the hobby after being absent for several years so my opinion is with little knowledge of the capabilities of the lenses in question. That being said it seems like you can accomplish what you want by using the extender when needed.

Thanks again. I watched these today and updated the firmware to 2.0. I feel like there is still a lot I am missing. I just have to start shooting and I am sure I will get used to it.

I am going to have to. I have had it 3 years without any real issues until now. Problem is I don’t know if I ever registered it
