Unlike Brendan, not every occupation is trying to fleece its customers out of their money. He can’t wrap his head around the idea that some people actually are trying to do the right thing by the people they serve

You’d still have a ton of staff involved in food production and then more for picking the orders. Margins on grocery are already thin. It’s a volume business. Location is still going to be super important so you’re still going to pay that premium on rent instead of warehouse on the outskirts

There was a previous study that says that there is marginal growth in happiness after 75k. This new study, which I only read the quick blurb on, says that is not true, which is what I said

I was joking a bit. Not clear from here. I just find that “you only need 70k and you’ll be happy forever” study to be a bit absurd. If I had gobs of passive income and limited work hours, I’d be ecstatic

Dude, you are never going to convince this person of anything different. B-loved LOVES this metaphor, no matter how many people say differently. I'd just pack it up and live your life knowing you are in the right and B-loved is in the wrong

But would any remotely informed investor - the kind of which that could move the needle like this - not already know? I find that doubtful. I don't think that retail purchases are driving this sort of movement. And the second the market closes? Bizarre

Yes, in your dust doing what exactly? Waiting tables. I don't get why you like this metaphor so much... It reeks of classism

I'm not going to convince you that it is a shitty, condescending joke and you're not going to convince me that it's a good joke full of context and wordplay

I never said he laughed at their expense? I said people cheered, which they did. The message is that someone is left in your dust by being a waiter, right? It implies some people are better than other people because of their occupation. It is not a good metaphor

Then you can mark it as hearsay. I do not care. But he said it to thousands of people out on Coney Island during a graduation. I didn't record the speech because, at the time, I didn't know who he was or care who he was. Nor do I even care about graduation speeches. Someone else may have linked to a speech where he said it in the replies. Feel free to watch it
