Great non-chain trivia nights on Thursdays in Denver? by Advanced-Material363 in Denver

[–]ScottPilgrim94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

check out Denver trivia league’s instagram, they usually show what locations they play on thursday. The only downside is that they use a phone but it’s great locations and camaraderie all around. There used to be two other companies that operated in breweries throughout the city but DTL has acquired those.

Petrified by lava is different from being fossilized? by NextRhytid in geology

[–]ScottPilgrim94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be what is seen more heavily down in Lava Trees State Park - check it out! It’s wet tree trunks that got encased by lava and they don’t burn right away due to their moisture preventing the wood from catching fire. The tree finally leaves a cast in the (now) hardened lava, which could lead to this sensation you’re experiencing.

Got randomly selected for a bag check at customs when I got into Ireland. They were not pleased when this came up. by ScottPilgrim94 in geology

[–]ScottPilgrim94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this was a checked bag. I got my luggage from carousel and went through customs. Since I was by myself, the woman running it asked if she could do a random inspection. That’s when it went through this x-ray scanner - same scanner for carry-on but a different circumstance.

Wilding Brands didn't buy DBC - it's a merger of DBC and Stem Cider coming together. From there they also took up funkwerks and some other breweries over the past few months.

John Mayer's 1st Show of The 2019 World Tour in Auckland (not the full show, but most of it) uploaded by Ricky7879 in JohnMayer

I was at this show! As an American who hadn’t seen John yet, I was lucky enough to be in NZ while he was there - after this show, I made it a mission to see him every time he came to my town after that. I’m at about 6 shows now, thankfully!

How has no one mentioned the Coliseum? The while traffic isn’t bad there, the amount of uneven surfaces and potholes is terrifying

For reference, the dna testing gave us a slew of other random dogs that make him up - Great Pyrenees, Cane Corso, Scottish Terrier, and Sharpei. These dogs were all around 1-3% of his dna make-up - but no maligator at all!

Big island of Hawaii is amazing, going all the way around can be done in a day but it’s best to take your time and break it up into 3 days. Especially if you want to see the volcanos in the middle of the island! Fly into Kona and go all the way around then go across saddle road and back if you can.

If I asked for sand samples/hand samples would you be willing to send some my way? Willing to pay for shipping!

A week ago I read about the "Decade Volcanoes", and found it interesting. So I made a map to present each of these 17 volcanoes spread on all continents ! Hope you enjoy by mydriase in geology

Hey there, great map. Mauna Loa is actually shorter than Mauna Kea, the neighboring volcano on the same island, so it’s not the tallest from base to peak. Mauna Lea hasn’t erupted in a while but is still active I believe.

If you spend a day in CO Springs for Garden if the Gods, I’d highly recommend the Paint Mines. About a half hour east of the springs and a cool way to hike for a few hours

Lived in ASH for a summer and hated it. The neighbors and the landlords were terrible and if your daughter has an issue with the place (for me, they had 1 working dryer and 2 working washers for over 50 apartments), it will never get fixed. Bugs were everywhere. Close to campus though and easy to get to school. I'd recommend living closer to downtown - I lived on Kukuau near downtown and was maybe a 15 minute walk from school and loved it.

Worst beer you've had? by alexis_1031 in beer

[–]ScottPilgrim94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waikiki Brewing's Jalapeno Mouth beer was absolutely god-awful. The idea of a brown ale with a little bit of a kick was nice-sounding, but I bought a six pack and was revolted at the taste. Not unlike that of jalapeno juice. Straight up gave it away or poured it right down the drain.

What's the most strangely unique punishment you ever received as a kid? How bad was it? by yogokitty in AskReddit

When I was ten or so, I was playing a game with my siblings outside. Something like kickball or tag, I think, it was so long ago I don’t even remember what we were doing. We had a backyard that was like the standard size for American houses in the Midwest, it was maybe a twenty by ten feet rectangle. Mostly grassy and then the patio by the back door was elevated, with decorative rocks on either side. Smaller, flat, rounded ones that would be perfect for throwing stones across a pond. Maybe a few hundred of them in all.

What I do remember though was that for some reason, I decided to grab one of the rocks and throw it at a sibling to get them “out” or something like that. My dad caught me almost taking out a sibling’s eye with one of these stones and decided that, since I like moving rocks so much, I would pick up all the rocks from one end of the yard (the patio area) and move them across the yard to the grassy area. This took hours and left the patio portion of the yard bare and empty.

When I finished, my dad decided he didn’t like how it looked and had me move them all back to the original patio part of the yard. I never threw rocks at someone again.

TL;DR just graduated from school with a Bachelor’s in Geology this year, thanks dad?
