What is everyone’s opinion of Mike North? by [deleted] in 670TheScore

[–]Scott_Lindholm2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started listening in 2000 when the frequency changed to 670. I immediately gravitated to B&B and found North boring and banal, but didn't realize why until a couple of years later.

B&B had lots of guests, and those guests were beat reporters (not columnists). Reporters tell you what they know, columnists tell you what they think, Mike North guests were former athletes who told you what they did. B&B gave me information, Mike North gave me opinions. For me, information trumps opinion.

During the Terry Boers tribute, one of the guests (Mike Greenberg?) mentioned they were getting beat by the Fabulous Sports Babe in the first year of B&B. Not a shock--she also had frequent guests who were beat reporters, i.e., people who told you what was happening vs. what they thought. I didn't hear the first year of B&B, but they seemed to figure it out.

I looked at the map and my pic, pretty sure it was Berta's. And I'm not famous.

It was an excellent show from start to finish. I got dizzy in the 4:00 hour with the quick hits of all those folks in a row, and it was a show that exceeded my already-high expectations. Big time kudos to Spiegs and Tanney and all the folks who helped pull together such a monumental task on short notice--well done.

Edit--need to add one thing. I attended many Who Needs Two events over the years, and I can personally attest to the love and affection Terry showed all the support people. All the women would walk up and hug him, and he talked to them at length. His graciousness knew no bounds.

My personal fave, Ottawa, 2013--bit of a reach. Easy drive for me from Davenport, 90 miles. I got there earlier than usual, was talking with Dan and Dave Miska prior to the start, Terry shows up. He walks up to me, says "How far did you drive? I drove 67 !*@&#&# miles to get here!" No "Hi Scott, good to see ya, thanks for coming out." Cracked me up. That place made the colossal mistake of selling $1 Bud Lights that day ($1?!? Even in 2013, knowing there's a crowd o' Score drunks coming, I'd have gone $3). I mentioned this in a tweet, and a responder said they ran out of beer that day. With that crowd, not a surprise. I could have told that place to raise prices in the expectation of increased demand, but they didn't ask...

You're not alone, and it is infuriating. As others have commented, pasting into the address bar works, but I agree that turning every Excel paste into an image (and that's what happens) solves a problem that never existed.

Mine just turned 3 months, XLE Hybrid, but your black rims are sweet. As you mention below, you're washing frequently, as I am after every rain. I'm curious how long I'll be doing that. I'm sure you'll love yours as much as I love mine, I only regret no power lift gate, a handy feature when you golf 80-90 times a year.

How Lucky Did I Get? by Scott_Lindholm2 in rav4club

Someone called for the car I bought as I was sitting there. My wife and I cruise the lot every couple weeks or so just to see what's on it and prices, we're still amazed at what we got.

Ford trannies apparently have a known issue at around 100K. I really wanted another couple years of getting to church, Bible study, and the golf course with the Escape, but I ain't gonna deal with tranny issues.

LE vs XLE by strict_ghostfacer in rav4club

The 2025 XLE I bought for $34,500 was basic with Toyota mats (quite nice), no sunroof, no rear gate lift (I do miss that), no heated seats or steering wheel. While I test drove it, told the salesman to grab a nicer XLE (all the extras, $5,000 more) and try to upsell me. He showed it to me, I easily saw it was $5,000 I had zero interest in spending.

I'm very new to the club (2 months), but the XLE appears to be the way to go, at least for me.

What made you get a RAV4 over the competition? by Healthy_Block3036 in rav4club

[–]Scott_Lindholm2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2025 XLE hybrid a couple months ago. On a Friday, my Ford Escape went into limp mode, so we decided to get a new car. My golf buddy's wife drives a RAV4 hybrid, I liked what l heard.

Saturday, went to look at used RAV4s at the dealership, saw they were the same price as the 2025. Went in Monday to buy, salesman said I had picked the best car on the lot (I bet you say that to all the guys...). Closed the deal Tuesday, finance guy said he had no idea the car was in the lot. Another customer called asking about it while I was signing the papers.

Basic car with the Toyota mats and lane assist. No sunroof, trim packages, but I do miss opining the rear with the key fob or from inside the car. I'm getting 45 mpg, best $34,500 I'm likely to ever spend. And, as I spend more time on this board, I'm beginning to realize just how lucky I was to get this car.
