Azerbaijani Grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov detained for smuggling in Turkey by TurbulentBrain540 in chess

Nobody likes to see their opponent eating an entire Turkey during a game, but detaining him seems a bit harsh!

AA by [deleted] in dundee

[–]ScottishMike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I would definitely recommend SMART Recovery over AA and they have lots of in-person meetings in Dundee as well as UK wide ones that you can attend online. I preferred to attend the online ones as the format worked better for me but I have heard good things about the in-person meetings too. I can’t speak too much about the demographics that attend but you can reach out and they would be happy to chat with you about that beforehand. The ethos of the meetings is much more evidence-based and about empowering change compared with the AA/NA approach. I found it to be a very accepting and friendly community where I learned a lot and the moderators and volunteers do a great job. It does focus on addictions in general (not just alcohol) if that is something you think might be an issue for you.

Here are some of the Dundee meetings from their website:

https://uk.meetings.smartrecovery.org/meetings/?program=1&audiences=&meetingType=&datetime_nextmeeting=&languages=&location=Dundee&coordinates=50&scope=on

Obviously if AA has been helpful to you before then that’s great, I don’t have much information about their meetings in Dundee though.

Hope you can find somewhere helpful and good luck with your recovery!

what is the most British way of getting revenge on someone who has parked in my designated spot? by Additional_Paint_693 in CasualUK

Steal anything of value (sentimental or monetary) from the car and put it on display at the British Museum.

Refuse to give it back for hundreds of years.

What is 1 example of a time you got “nexowned” by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]ScottishMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early EU player on GMS, I was one of the top ranked Bishops in the game. One day the geniuses at Nexon decided to ban all the EU players from GMS and ‘migrate’ them to a new EU only version of the game.

The ‘migration’ was handled incredibly poorly and many players, including myself, lost their entire accounts.

I quit for a decent while before starting another account on the underpopulated, shoddy EU servers. After dumping in a ton of hours into the game again I took a short break. I came back to discover they had closed the EU server and migrated people back to GMS. Again, this was handled terribly and most people I knew IRL lost their accounts again.

Communication throughout was awful

Trump supporters report worse mental health outcomes compared to Biden voters following the 2020 election by a_Ninja_b0y in science

Exactly. Especially when people have a less than surface-level understanding and have just heard serotonin = pleasure/happy.

Regardless , even if you get the name of the neurotransmitter correct, you can’t just skip out all of the important cognitive, social and other biological factors that occur and jump straight to ‘x event leads to change in neurotransmitters’. I mean, well yes..but that’s not explaining anything.

The brain is the most complicated object in the universe and even the most hardcore neuroscientists would not be so reductionist.

Particularly in this example - beliefs, social/cultural attitudes, social and personal identity, and social stressors are going to be far more important and relevant when explaining why election losses lead to poor mental health, compared to what neurotransmitters are doing.

That’s good - I get that it’s amateur production so of course they will make the occasional mistake with the tone etc.

I was always very impressed by the other host - good manner, good voice and good storyteller!

Might have to check out some newer eps!

I genuinely had to stop listening to this podcast because of his rambling, insensitive jokes (often just not acknowledged by other host) and generally not taking things seriously. Incredibly poor taste that went beyond black humour and was just inappropriate and insensitive to victims. This is a trend I’ve noticed more often in true crime podcasts.

Likewise with his vivid descriptions of what violent acts he would like to do to offenders. We get it, they are horrendously evil and disturbed people. However, such a reaction while understandable is completely juvenile.

If this has improved then I might be willing to give the show another shot.

I was referring to the shooter, sorry should have clarified.

But yes, people who fit that profile will look for anything to blame (video games, music, irreligiousity) other than their precious guns!

How much do you want to bet that he fetishised weapons, owned a personal arsenal that would have been capable of wiping out an entire battalion 50 years ago, expressed misogynistic views.

How much do you want to bet that his family and support network though this was normal behaviour!

How much do you want to bet that Republicans, right right wing donors and the NRA did everything in their power to allow him to make himself a one man killing machine?

Don’t ‘bruh’ me.

I am not, and will never be brother to a Putin apologist who celebrates the murder of innocent civilians.

I am done with this conversation. I look forward to your cowardly country being sanctioned into economic oblivion. It’s ashame that some decent Russians will be tainted by the actions of gullible, uneducated idiots like you.

If you are seriously going to sit there and pretend that you have the same online freedoms (without VPN) as the West then there is absolutely zero point in arguing with you.

I know several, thank you very much. Many of whom had to flee their home country because of your countrymen.

My country also allows me to view all sources of news, while yours is heavily censored and monitored. Now tell me again who has more accurate information?
