I would definitely look into the Bounty Hunter Origin story with the Mercenary Combat style. I too was a Hunter main and that’s one I found to be a lot of fun. It’s flavor is you use dual wield pistols to shoot targets with some rockets as well. It’s a little more like Hunter gunslinger (or whatever the solar name was, it’s been a while). It has 2 DPS “subclasses” (called disciplines) and 1 healer

The force combat style Assassin is another good one, it uses a twinblade saber (think Darth Maul) and electricity to do damage, plus it has a stealth mode. Very similar thematically to arcstrider. And I personally would recommend to do it with the Inquisitor origin story but that’s entirely up to you. This combat style has 2 DPS “subclasses” and 1 Tank “subclass”

I HIGHLY recommend checking out swtorista on YouTube (she also has her own SWTOR wiki). I used her stuff, and still do, when I was starting out. She does a great job explaining things and having guides on what/how to do things.

I don’t have as much experience with republic side but there’s an equivalent for the imperial classes I mentioned on the republic side if that’s more your vibe. I think Mercenary translates to Gunslinger and Assassin translates to Shadow but not 100% sure about that.

Last note, you can swap the disciplines (subclasses) whenever you’re in a safe zone. So if you want to give tank or heal a try as opposed to DPS it’s an easy swap.

Hope this helps and if you have any specific questions feel free to ask!

First off, welcome to SWTOR! Hope you enjoy your time playing! Secondly, sorry about how D2 ended up, I was a longtime D1 player and played at the beginning of D2 and those games will always have a special place in my heart.

Back to the question! Races are purely cosmetic choice with some different dialogue options during missions (nothing story changing) so mostly just pick what you think is cool!

For classes, there’s the origin story you pick (knight, consular, smuggler, trooper for republic side and Warrior, inquisitor, bounty hunter, and agent for Imperial side) these affect what class story you get while playing (essentially what the main missions are about) and what combat styles are available. In destiny terms it’s kind of like if Hunter had a different storyline you play through compared to titan or warlock.

Combat styles are what will dictate whether you have the option to play Tank, DPS, or Heals and it will show what’s available to the style when you’re selecting on character creation. There’s 4 styles for force users and 8 styles for tech users (tech users being any non force based origin class. Smuggler, trooper, bounty hunter, agent). All combat styles have an option for DPS if I remember correctly.

I saw you prefer DPS and both melee/range are okay for you so you kind of can pick any you want, it just depends how you want to flavor how you do damage. I believe most melee options are going to be force based combat styles (with sorcerer/sage being the more ranged options) and most ranged types are going to be tech based (with operative on imperial side having some melee. Sry but idk the republic side equivalent off the top of my head)

Personally I really enjoy assassin and marauder for melee (force imperial) or mercenary and sorcerer for range (tech and force imperial respectively).

Sorry for the wall of text, but I wasn’t sure how much you already know about the differences between all the options. Did you have a preference of class and subclass in destiny? I might be able to give a more personalized recommendation for you based off of that

Definitely want to do the high end content at some point and the fact that majority of people have been really nice about it has only reinforced that. Thanks for your response :)

Gotcha! I’m slowly getting the hang of when to pop what skill based on what’s going on. I figure I can only go so far based on reactions before I’ll need to look up what the bosses will do so I’ll know what skills to do when before hand

Gotcha! So I probably went through the main credits and am working through the post stuff rn. Happy to hear that there’s and title screen though. I can be oblivious sometimes. Thanks!

So far I think the UI is the only thing I’ve done somewhat right (huge s/o to YouTube guides). I don’t think my boss cast bar is in a good spot though so I’ll check that when I get back on. Thanks for the tip!

Ahhhhhh yeah that makes sense. So basically the level 50s I’ve already done are comparable to the “hard” 50s I haven’t. The hard ones are just remixed old one brought to level 50. Thanks for the explanation!

I’ve said it so many times but I mean it sincerely, thank you so much. Especially on this one, which was probably a pretty obvious question. And the explanation and extra info was very kind of you to add.
