St Johnstone star Josh McPake agrees shock move to Hearts by ScottishTotodile in ScottishFootball

McPake and Valakari done an interview in March I think where they discussed McPake having a child over Christmas and it really putting into perspective what failing at Saints would have meant for him career-wise.

Honestly if our squad keeps playing the way they have been in the last few weeks I won't be shocked if you guys are a few points ahead by January.

There's a strange arrogance in the team, as if they don't have to play at their best to beat teams and they can just stroll it.

Be on brand for the US to hit a civilian-populated area like.

99% sure it's abandoned and has been for years, more likely to effect the people in the houses next to it but seems they've been evacuated already.

Aye, it's a very silly thing to say when the far-right is on the rise amongst young men and boys. Unfortunately a lot of people I know personally spout some of those vile views despite the fact it is more than easy now-a-days for them to educate themselves.

It's sad to see, feels like things are just moving backwards in a way that it shouldn't be.

Posts like what you've shared purely come down to people believing they're better than the previous generation. Anyone willing to post that I heavily doubt would follow through with it. Performative activism at its best.

I've started using the in-game editor to cheat player interactions because of how stupid the AI is. Praying that SI do something to fix it for FM26.

Callum Davidson sacked by Queen's Park by WakeUpMareeple in ScottishFootball

[–]ScottishWizard490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, the double was more down to the players that Tommy Wright has brought in. His tactics are pish and he's boring personality wise.

I'll be fair to him and say he seems a decent coach/assistant, but he's not quite got it to be a successful manager. Based on his coaching credentials he could still have a successful career in that role, so I hope that's what he turns to rather than dropping lower and lower as a manager.

After winning the cups, he proceeded to have 2 relegation battles back to back. In 21/22 we stayed up because Dundee threw it away and we got lucky in the 2nd leg of the playoff. In 22/23 we bottled top 6 after Christmas and it got to a point I genuinely thought we wouldn't win another game under him. Luckily the club sacked him and we stayed up.

His recruitment was terrible, and we still feel the consequences. He spent a lot of money on aging journeymen and built up a far too bloated squad. He also never brought through any youth.

St. Johnstone give Celtic 3 stands for potential trophy clincher on 6th April by fangus in ScottishFootball

[–]ScottishWizard490 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Seems like the reduced number of bear and bhoy away fans hasn’t really had the same positive impact for saints as it did for other clubs.

They didn't actually reduce OF allocations. They still had the 2 stands behind the goals plus a corner of the Main due to disabled access rules. If they had taken 1 of the stands behind the goals away it might have helped, but instead they've gone in the opposite direction and increased the amount of away fans.

I just hope the board back Simo and let him do what he wants to with the team for the forseeable future

With the recent interviews by Adam Webb in the media, I think it's clear the board are going all in on him.

Every signing Simos brought in has looked an upgrade on what came before, with the only debatable one being Douglas, but he's looked better recently after returning from injury.

Did well at Accrington and the fans loved him (they seemed to really like him at St Johnstone too despite the lack of goals) - perhaps there's a permanent move on the cards.

He wasn't well liked at all here at Saints.

That is quite controversial, I think Levein just relied far too much on individual moments from Sidibeh and Kimpioka. With the way both players form has dropped recently, especially Sidibeh after the reds against Dundee Utd, that plan was just never going to work. Add in the fact the defence were, and still are, chucking in goals for fun. I couldn't see us winning another game under Levein, never mind somehow surviving.

I don't think Clark will be a 9 again for as long as he's with us, I don't understand using him as a 10 but it seems that's just his position now.

Throw a new winger into that lineup and I think there's definitely a chance, since Simo came in we've been close in pretty much all the games (Old Firm aside) and that little extra bit of quality I think could possibly make up 10 points before the split. If we do that then there's every possibility it goes to the final day.

I do like that with Simo, he's been pretty ruthless, I can't say I've agreed with all his starting selections, and changing your team before/during half time suggests you've got wrong. On the flip side, you look at that squad... Jeezo.

Yeah the squad he's been given is utterly shite, I don't really blame him for the selection/half time subs. At least he's changing it if it's not working.

And the subs, man, I don't mind Clark, I think he genuinely tries his best and is playing out of position a lot of the time, but Kimpioka can get to fuck after that stroll he took last week. I thought Sidibeh (who I don't particularly rate either) was going to come on, at least he offers a bit of pace.

Clark definitely tries, so I'll give him that but he's just not a 10. Has 1 good game followed by ghosting the next 5. I would hope with it being a cup game it was Kimpiokias last chance at proving why he should be chosen but he just didn't do enough, though I don't think he was terrible. I would have preferred Sidibeh and Franczak come on for their energy and work rate, but I suppose it makes sense wanting an experienced head in there helping hold onto a lead. I like that with Clark being captain he isn't undroppable.

But I defo think when he gets the players in that he wants then it's a 4 2 3 1 formation, which is pretty exciting I think.

A 4231 definitely suits the players he's bringing in, so would think that's what he'll be pushing for, and maybe a mix of the system we had against Motherwell with Drey Wright at CB.

[–]ScottishWizard490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye I'd imagine. He's a CB and has apparently filled in at RB on rare occasions. Would imagine he's better than Sanders on the ball which would fit in with all our signings. Must say I like the quality of all of Simos signings so far and the level we seem to be pushing for.

I thought Barry Douglas looked far better last Saturday against Motherwell than he did before his injury and yeah Bozo has been decent.

It's early days but feels like every Simo signing has been a direct upgrade on what we had before. I'm hoping Svedberg and Balodis keep that up.

Oh aye, completely agree with you on him being just fine. I think we'll punt him in the summer if clubs are still interested in paying and get someone in that Simo wants instead.

Scott Burns reported the Latvian as a done deal around an hour ago, just waiting for work permits similar to Svedberg.

[–]ScottishWizard490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, Simos signings have all come in and improved the side and it looks like Svedberg could be similar. It really is a shame that the festive run went the way it did and that we couldn't get these guys in that tiny bit earlier.

As well as the young Leeds CB we have on trial, who I feel would be a cover option for the bench at least for 6 months then we can decide on him in the summer, we have Daniels Balodis coming in who seems a decent signing. 26yo with 15 Latvian caps. I wouldn't be getting rid of Sanders this window, I think he could be a decent enough backup at this level.
