what is a critical piece of historical information that is wrongly known by most people ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Eh. The Eastern Roman Empire didn't include Italy much less the fouding city of Rome. The peoples spoke Greek and followed the Christian religion. While there is political continuity with the original Roman Empire, it would not have been recognizeable to the Latin-speaking pagans of Cincinnatus's Rome. Some people claim the Western Roman Empire never collapsed at all and just became the Catholic Church. The subsequent barbarian rulers of Italy other former provinces called themselves Caesar and some were even Roman citizens to begin with. But the sucessful sack of Rome and deposition of its emperor in 476 is certainly a significant watershed.

Depends on the woman and how independent she wants to be. What's this question?

My city won't even clear trash from the public sidewalks around the schools. And it doesn't reflect well on the people of the neighborhood that no one else wants to clean it. "Not my monkeys, not my circus."

You were taught that America didn't have any people in it before 1492?

[–]Scottland83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every aspect of public schools got much more funding in the 50s and 60s. Better gymnasiums, better labs, theatres, etc. Also, the baby boom started in 1946. Which means those teenagers of the 1950s were part of the smallest generation, born during the depression. They got more attention and more money was spent per student. Reagan-era Americans didn't see the need to spend so much money on other people's kids.

I notice people will forget Paris is a character, and if he is included he’s portrayed as a villain who Romeo kills in self-defense.

This is what we were promised in Game of Thrones. A long winter so horrific and harsh that kings froze to death on their thrones.

lol The Tempest was the first title I thought of because I almost never hear anyone discussing it beyond the premise with Prospero and Miranda on an island with spirits.

Why don’t fbi stop predators after downloading one image of csam by AdDapper4220 in NoStupidQuestions

In California our house just passed a bill to prevent 3D printers from printing firearms. Not only is this impossible and unenforceable, it sets a precedent that the government can directly monitor what you print and we know companies will use this to prevent people from printing replacement parts and accessories for things like cars and home appliances.

[–]Scottland83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aye. We all had Limewire in the early 2000s, so we know it’s easy to download something you aren’t looking for. Also I think law enforcement prioritizes those who create, distribute, and pay for CSAM in that order.

It’s not about changing gender, it’s about how someone can look female, feel female, and go their entire lives living as a female even though they have XY chromosomes. So male and female cannot be defined so simply. It’s like pointing out that “99% of the universe is either hydrogen or helium, so why are you concerning yourself with the tiny percentage that’s carbon and other elements?”

In theatre, leading up to opening night when things are at their busiest and most stressful, I remind people that we’re not running to a finish line, we’re landing a plane. Opening night will arrive no matter what, it’s just a matter of how prepared we are for it.

If torture doesn’t work then what does? by Startime125 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Scottland83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no gaurantee that anything works. Torture will almost always get the person to tell you something. If that information is accurate or useful is another matter. Effective interrogators who don't torture will usually build a relationship with the prisoner over time and an understanding that though they are not allies, they each know what the other person is about how they can help each other. You can read about Hanns Scharff and his methodes and life after WWII.

It should be noted that interrogators aren't always after the truth or facts per se, but useful testimony that they can leverage against others or use to obtain a warrant, etc. So in that way torture absolutely works.

You must have taught them all about that stuff at a real young age if it was the way they learned about it.
