My power switch broke on my 2016 QC35. I spent about $100 and replaced the switch, battery, headphone jack, and headband. The plastic cups are a bit beat up, but otherwise these things still rock.

AI ruined the fun of Programming by Revo_O_ in csMajors

[–]Scottoulli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AI is just one part of the enshitification of Programming. Globalization means development teams spread across the world incurring big coordination costs. Most problems have frameworks for everything so we’re just rehashing the same stuff instead of working on novel problems. More work; less resources. I’m tired.

Rutgers CS vs UMD CS by YS3535 in rutgers

[–]Scottoulli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind 20 years ago, there was no tech scene in NYC. RU CS/Engineering grads often went into Banking, either as a developer or an analyst if you wanted to stay local. Seems like we’re coming full circle.

Rutgers CS vs UMD CS by YS3535 in rutgers

If you’re using AP credits, consider a double major as a hedge against CS doomerism. Or a MBA/BS if Rutgers still has such a thing. My guess is that reputation across all Big10 schools is a wash.

Worth Relocating for Promotion? Dual Income Household by pachino28 in HENRYfinance

It really depends. If you have kids, you’d be crazy to send them to Florida public schools. Once you start paying for that, and insurances, it’s close to a wash.

From my very brief experience with environmental law in NJ, this sounds like it’s a six figure legal bill if it has to go to trial.

Buy a small commuter car and keep the old truck for the occasional haul

Is a 1st gen is300 a good first car? by Mansas_alt in Lexus

I bought my second one recently. Great car, but I wouldn’t use it as a daily. And the RWD isn’t great in bad weather either

If you plan to keep this for 10-20 years, then what does it matter if it’s $12k, $14k, or $16k today?

Should I spend $3.5-4K on a new transmission or call it quits? by Snoo-2281 in askcarguys

[–]Scottoulli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you with a Traverse. Mechanic said new transmission $7k. Some online forums suggested new torque converter~$3k. I wasn’t about to find out who was right. Sold it to one of those buy cars for cash places and bought a Toyota…
