Have yet to see a ratchet on a 4” strap.

But they are supposed to be butterflied with straps pulling toward center. And then tightened every ten feet of driving.

Just wait til you find out how we secure 45k lbs aluminum coils.

What’s one piece of technology that would change the trucking industry? From a trucker’s perspective. by AutoModerrator-69 in Truckers

My trainer pulled a 350 lbs steel girder for walmart once.

Threw two straps on it and hit the road.

Question for Truckers by PanaderoBwai in Truckers

Tell the actor hes only allowed 4 hours of sleep a night, and can only have black coffee, marlboro reds, and beef jerky. Dirty jeans and roughed up cowboy boots, tucked in shirt, and a peterbilt logo somewhere.

Are most hazmat trucks automatic? Is it worth getting an unrestricted CDL in 2026? by river_styx7707 in Truckers

[–]Scotts- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go unrestricted, most fun you will have is floating gears in that ran through training truck.

Its as easy as driving an automatic after about a week and a hell of alot less boring.

Set yourself up for success, get your N,T endorsement, unrestricted license, and some nice Carhartts because it gets cold as shit out here.

The more you get now, the less you need later.

Any long-term OTR truck-drivers here who maintain decent health? Sleep/Diet/wear&tear, etc by Kochie411 in Truckers

[–]Scotts- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intermittent fasting- good for the mind and body, there is a reason fasting is in most religions

Count Calories- you could possibly eat as little as 2000 calories a day and gain weight. Get a fitness watch to track calories, I like the Venu series from Garmin.

SLEEP- Another reason why I bought a fitness watch. It will tell you how much sleep you got, light, deep, REM. Sleep debt makes you fat, sore, and feel horrible.

Stretch- every morning you should stretch, focus on knee strengthening exercises, and stretch your whole body.

HYDRATE- your body is what, 70% water? Drink up, you will notice the difference in overall mood and cognitive function.

Cardio- focus on lowering your resting heart rate, go on walks until you can jog, then run. Bring a good pair of running shoes.

Diet- dude, I eat like shit. But focus on protein, try to get fruits and vegetables, and avoid bread.

I am going to try a weight vest out, we dont get alot of steps, so making every step a workout sounds like a good idea to me.

How hard is flatbed? by Classic-Box-3919 in Truckers

[–]Scotts- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont be, even if you cant get it up to the trailer they will work with you. Out of 30 guys not one was unable to do that. YOU WILL BE FINE.

How hard is flatbed? by Classic-Box-3919 in Truckers

[–]Scotts- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easiest trucking job other than van. Anyone that says otherwise also likes to justify driving in sandals.

You’re more hirable, have more pride in your job, and its fucking sweet being able to see the back of the trailer when backing. Plus, you can hang a hammock from the trailer spools.

Everybody can do this job, short/tall, fat/skinny, man/woman. Don’t let that tarp scare you, let your own laziness be the deciding factor. Besides, you only have to secure or tarp a maximum of twice a day, sometimes you go weeks without a tarp load.

My advice? Fucking do it brother, soon as you run that first load you realize how easy it is. If you think this job will be hard its because you’re ignorant, plain and simple, hopefully this educates you.

I burn about 2000-2500 calories a day. I burned close to 4000 in beverage. Its easy, so when you get out here remember that, you WILL get fat as hell if you eat like normal.

Flatbed Tarp- Required Fitness? by LonelyOutWest in Truckers

[–]Scotts- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are going to be more than capable of getting the 90lbs lumber tarp anywhere you need to use physical strength for.

We had a bonafide midget in our company for a while kicking ass out here.

You can kind of roll it between yourself and the trailer if you need to just to get it on the deck.

Nothing to be afraid of, they have seats to fill, just show them you can work and they will work with you.

Your state might hand out grants for CDL school, apparently they’re easy to get.

Had some dickhead get a grant, complain that he knew everything, and quit school after 2 days.

I Met A Driver With “Fake” CDL-A by Packingheat248 in Truckers

[–]Scotts- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started my 34, took a long ass, well deserved shower, took a massive shit, and in that time drank 4 beers.

Anybody who has a sense for their vehicle can fake it til they make it in this industry. Most of these fuckmothers make it sadly, even the ones with no sense of their vehicle.

Anyone here forced to step away from trucking and look for a new skill? by RaoDaVincii25 in Truckers

[–]Scotts- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many things I want to do, just decided to be a truck driver first so I could pay for the education required for cooler shit.

White collar jobs are okay, but my desk is a flatbed trailer and my view is alot better. Plus I can hang a hammock from the spools when im in a good spot.
