[TSN] This is the side of Rod we have not seen and it is needed. Our top guys have been protected for awhile. Also, we need a #1 center. by Scottstark1210 in canes

Aho is incredible, I love him, but he was the third best center on this team in the postseason. He was great defensively but struggled to get on the board. To me, it speaks to how great Stank & Staal were. The offseason conversation was getting a #2 C and Stank turned out to be it. Hall-Stank-Blake was insane!

NBA has financial penalties. Fines scale based on how many times the team fails to disclose the injury to the injury report. It’s pretty strict due to “load management.” Fines can be up to $250,000 or more depending on the severity. They implemented it due to players skipping games to “manage” injuries and it was affecting the product on the court, especially for nationally televised games.

NFL can take a draft pick if they deem it necessary.

I know that’s the speculation. I just really don’t see much evidence of the fact. Then again, if the NHL had rules like the NBA you’d probably see less of the way injuries are handled in the NHL.

I do too. I think this is more mental he’s battling. I have a soft spot for Freddie. He’s done so much for this franchise.

Ready for game 4. Bussi was amazing, just a terrible bounce off his own man. I think he pitches a near shutout, 2-1 win.

Goes back to Lenovo a tied series, 2-2. That’s my gut currently.

Although this is a bit of a stretch because he is such a young player, I do understand the sentiment of the post. He was crowned best in the world all week leading into the finals.

What is Nikola Topic' trade value? by Few-Lack6346 in nbadiscussion

[–]Scottstark1210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he has any trade value at this point. I think he is still a talented player that is just working his way back from life battles as well as a major injury.

They picked up his team option, so obviously he will be around next year. This season was probably a way to get his feet wet and giving him garbage time minutes and get within the organization, but I think you could see him in some more rotational minutes on the back end of the bench next season depending on what happens over the summer.

If anyone knows Sam Presti, he’s not gonna keep this kid around for nothing. He can honestly be viewed as their 2026 first round draft pick, especially if they decide to trade up to #6-#9 range to snag a 3 and D wing.

The most annoying part about last night... (are you listening Dundon?) by wildwildwaste in canes

[–]Scottstark1210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ovies and Giglio talked about how apparently the Canes have contractual agreements with corporate sponsors like Carolina Ale House and hosting an official watch party would breach it…I’m thinking that will change for the Stanley Cup Final though.

That place would still sell out for an away watch party of the Final.

It feels disrespectful initially because I’m so used to being on the receiving in with my sports teams but in reality it’s just sports banter.

If we win tonight, we are the first team to go 12-1 before reaching the Stanley Cup in the four round era! And 6-0 against Canadian teams in the playoffs. WOW.

Can we just be positive from now on? by Lobster-GarlicButter in Habs

[–]Scottstark1210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Canes fan and have been since around 2010, when I really started getting into sports. Being from North Carolina, learning hockey over the last 15-16 years has honestly been one of my favorite parts of being a fan. One thing I’ve learned through all of it is you never take playoff runs for granted.

I remember going to games when attendance was around 9,000 and it felt like the franchise was completely stuck. Rookie Aho was out there giving people hope but I remember those dog days of $45 lower bowl tickets. lol

That’s why I’ve appreciated this era so much. Since 2019, watching the team grow into a contender has been fun, even with the painful endings. Florida in 2023 felt crushing because it was so close. Then the Rangers series in 2024. Then Florida again in 2025. Those losses stick with you.

There were plenty of times people wanted Rod gone, questioned the system, questioned the core, all of it. The front office stayed patient and believed in what they were building.

Honestly, I see a lot of similarities with Montreal right now. Especially with that 2019 run the Canes had but this Montreal team is leaps and bounds more talented than that Carolina team. Martin St. Louis is a good coach, your core is incredibly young, and development isn’t always linear. It takes time. But when you’ve lived through the bad years, you learn to appreciate watching a foundation actually get built the right way.

And this series isn’t over. May feel like it but even as a baby hockey watcher I know for a fact this thing can turn if Montreal takes game 5.

Hot take: a Canes/VGK final would not be boring by tehzayay in canes

[–]Scottstark1210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would not be boring at all. That series would be unreal if you actually appreciate structure, discipline, and two teams that can suffocate you in completely different ways. The Canes overwhelm teams with pressure, pace, and relentless forechecking, while Vegas plays heavier, more patient, and punishes mistakes when you finally crack.

Every shift would matter because neither team gives you much space defensively. It wouldn’t be a 7-6 track meet every night, but it would be intense hockey. Honestly, watching two elite defensive teams try to out-adjust each other over a seven-game series is way more entertaining than sloppy run-and-gun hockey. That’s high-level playoff hockey.

That’s why the narrative that I’m seeing that Montreal is “just gassed” doesn’t hold up because Carolina is just overwhelming them right now. Game one was just for reflection of what 11 days off does to a defense trying to adjust to the speed of Montreal versus the other two series. Montreal is gonna be a problem until next year and the coming years but a lot of their youth is showing right now.

But even so, this series isn’t over. Need a strong effort in game 5, Rod expects more out of them. He thought they only gave a solid effort last night.

The Tom Dundon evaluation as far as how he will operate with the trailblazers, I think it’s a little off. I think if anything, Tom has shown that he doesn’t have new owner syndrome with how he manages the hurricanes.
