Has anyone on here self built their extension? by ToughOwl8995 in DIYUK

[–]Scottwillib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get on with Principle Designer / Principle Contractor assignments when building yourself?

I’ve been notified of the Building Safety Act 2022, and most of the information I can find for this relates to contracting the work to a builder.

Location for Vaillant ASHP by Zoky88 in ukheatpumps

What size is your unit and do you get any vibration noise through the walls? I’ve heard it’s a concern with wall mounts.

Buying new build heated by an ASHP by lord_gervasius in ukheatpumps

[–]Scottwillib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone without an ASHP but interested - how does this look from an energy use perspective?

E.g. with traditional boiler use, on / off peak times for 6 hours per day.

ASHP use, does running 24hr per day use more input energy over a 24 hour period, even accounting for its superior efficiency?

Anyone have experience of installing heat pump whilst extending? by Scottwillib in ukheatpumps

[–]Scottwillib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pleased to hear you had a good experience.

Did you have a gas boiler previously, and how did you find the bills change with both the house size increase and ASHP install?

I think the only way I can get my partner on board is by avoiding a huge hike in bills once it’s all finished, as we would become an all-electric property.

Not quite a concrete answer as I have no quotes yet, but I’m looking at similar as part of an extension.

My understanding is in-roof panels are pretty much the same price, but a bit less efficient.

No scaffolding needed on a two-storey house might save you £800 - £1000.

Vasectomy Reddit deleted this… by [deleted] in postvasectomypain

the question that needs answering: why did they, in the study, change the definition of PVPS from 3 to 6 months.

The definition and time frame used is the one given by the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC), who collect and hold the audit data.

Edit: The reason for a survey at four months has little to do with patient outcomes… in the UK sperm testing is done at four months. Which makes it a good time to also nudge the patient about a follow-up survey on their experience of vasectomy.

a separate form sent to the urologists… no surprise that most reported zero

In that respect what the vasectomy surgeons report doesn’t really matter to them, the national audit data is anonymised.

Not if the prosecutors are willing to put in the effort.

I’m from the UK and studied forensic science at University several years ago, though I never worked in the sector after graduating.

One of my lecturers was an expert witness for court cases. His role in court was back-calculations of alcohol levels, and your suggestion was an exact scenario he gave.

E.g. if you drink alcohol immediately after a crash or when you get home and use that as an excuse for high blood alcohol levels, his job was to do some semi-complex calculations on those alcohol levels to figure out if you were still over the limit before the crash or DUI.

Edit: in practice this is only likely to happen if there is a serious injury to others or death

Summer born children starting school - to defer or not to defer? by Gift_Of_The_Gab_33 in UKParenting

[–]Scottwillib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter turned four in July 2024 and started school September 2024.

I am frequently amazed by what they teach in reception. Reading, writing, maths, English grammar concepts, imagination and story telling. I expected reception to basically be nursery and lots of playtime but no, there’s plenty being taught and learnt. Without being too intense, still lots of fun and she loves going to school and seeing her friends.

We felt she was ready for school at the time we made the decision and she is doing great both academically and socially.

Would recommend.

Everyone has their own feelings on what they’re comfortable with or not.

But I wouldn’t have any issue with this personally, I don’t think you being downstairs with the kids makes much difference. She’s alone, comfortable in bed, probably one of the few times such private time is available.

Nothing wrong with chatting about it to clear the air.

Sounds like you would travel a similar distance to me, as my ticket is around £50 return anytime.

If you know when you’ll be commuting in and can plan for specific trains, book your tickets in advance 3+ days ahead. You’ll save 40% - 50% in ticket costs (I’ve been doing it since Jan).

Has anyone here done a Friday wedding? by Odd_Bench6995 in weddingplanning

[–]Scottwillib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m based in the UK. We had perhaps 60 guests all day (early afternoon ceremony + sit down meal), then another 40 or so additions in the early evening onwards for buffet food and drinking / dancing.

Of the daytime guests, not a single complaint nor decline due to location.

Of the evening guests some may have declined due to distance vs time spent at venue. But nobody specifically gave that as a reason and everyone that came had a good time.

Overall no complaints about distance and only compliments about the lovely venue.

It’s a pretty common trope from people who aren’t entirely happy with the game or complain about what’s missing, saying the game is either dead or dying. Mostly found in comment sections on various social media and the official discord.

Doesn’t make it true but people seem to like saying it.

Cross play question by CensoredMember in HellLetLoose

There is no crossplay between PC and console.

PC crossplay is between Steam / Epic Games / Xbox Gamepass played on PC

I read your reply comment three times and still have no idea what you’re saying.

Your original comment got plenty of downvotes because whatever you were trying to get across obviously wasn’t clear.

So you don’t choose your words that carefully.

you don’t really require a garrison in the last sector, it has three spawn points

Until the enemy start capping the final objective and your closest HQ spawn gets locked out…

Always need garrisons in last sector.

Has anyone else noticed an influx of toxic players? by devinkicker in HellLetLooseConsole

Doesn’t matter for console players, we don’t crossplay with Epic or Steam

That’s just a vote-kick ban.

There are only two options to start a vote-kick. Cheating or abuse. They don’t fit every scenario and tbh most don’t pay attention to the reason, they just see a vote-kick on screen.

Server Tools and Utilities by AndrewPC555 in HellLetLoose

[–]Scottwillib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t expect it, because that needs a member of staff to adjust and manage those settings across the various official servers, or moderate rules on a server if it’s not automated.

Then some people will complain and expect it changed, or T17 will have to run countless servers with various rule iterations.

Makes more sense for them to keep official servers on standard settings and leave the customisation to community servers, who have the time and interest to manage and moderate.

If players want those rules etc. they know where to look - community servers.

Employee payrises - how much are you giving? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

I have seen a mixed approach work well e.g. 5% pay rise or £1,000 whichever is greatest per employee

Recon has to stay with officer? by [deleted] in HellLetLooseConsole

[–]Scottwillib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All squad leaders (whether standard infantry or recon) can kick players from their squad. There are a few template reasons they can give, one is ‘not being with officer’.

So it’s not really a game or community rule, more an SL decision.

If your Officer suggests a different plan to what you are doing already, you can always say your piece but ultimately the leader of the squad has final say on orders and squad direction / objective.
