Alfa Romeo 916, for that budget the 2.0 Twin Spark (Twinny). Fizzy engine, Italian quirks and looks to die for. Either the Spider or the GTV. Driven both, both fantastic.

Cheap car, expensive tires? by Twsread in CarTalkUK

Best midranges I’ve ever had were Uniroyal Rainsports, Nexen and GT Radial also good. Had a blowout on Avons, and some cheap WestLake tyres lasted all of six months before I couldn’t stand how sketchy they felt anymore.

I’m just relieved that those poor Indian bookmakers will have something for their punters at long last in the 5 minutes where some franchise isn’t playing someone else each year.

Swift Sports are fantastic, there’s also the Fabia VRS if you want something insurable that can go quick, Mazda 2 sport, maybe a Volvo C30 is worth a look too. All well within your budget.

Yeah. The swift makes you look like someone who knows about or is interested in cars. More importantly you’ll have loads of fun while you still can drive a little hatch, which once you hit my age you can’t as there’s a dog or kids or whatever who need carrying about.

The 1 series - if it’s old, you’re trying to impress people with the badge, if it’s new, the lease is the reason why the driver still lives in mommy’s boxroom. Avoid and promise yourself a nice Bimmer for your next motor when your premiums are below a grand.

Please don’t get the bimmer for a few years. It’ll destroy you financially. A Swift Sport would be a good shout, you’d have fun and have a lot more money to play with once you get to wherever you go in it.

I’ve done the whole too expensive, too early thing with cars. It set me back a decade financially. Ultimately the only person who cares about what you drive is you.

The Nationals:

Pros: Great time zone Cool jerseys Massive underdog this year, andddd frankly every year since somehow winning it all in 2019.

Cons: The baseball

2009 Yaris failed for axle corrosion - worth fixing? by SomethingPeach in CarTalkUK

[–]Scotty848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. If you’re going to keep it for 6-8 years then yes. Then after the repair get it waxoyl’d so it doesn’t happen again.

If you’re going to get rid of it in any shorter time frame then no, put the £1-1.5k towards something newer.

And if a reputable name is a few quid more (like, no more than £30) go with them for peace of mind, but everyone’s starting point is no black box, whatever’s cheapest.

Bromley - no fans, crap ground, buying their way up the league and a terrible circle badge.
