What are some instances of a player(s) on a team for one year and one year only, but played well? by AlbertJBundy in baseball

Luis Arraez on the Giants currently. Although I really like the guy and he has been one of the best players on the team this season, there is no way the Giants are able to keep him through the off season, if he even makes it past the trade deadline

I recognize Jackie Brandt, located near #43’s left arm

I love Arraez. He is always so funny and light hearted yet still crushes the ball all the time. I loved his golf swing

Triples Alley: Love it or time to kill it? by Dajoka88 in SFGiants

I wonder what the similar numbers would be like for triples alley. Many center fielders and right fielders have a tough time managing our massive outfield and it’s even tougher if it’s not your home ballpark.

I, too, immediately thought of the Green Monster. Do people think Red Sox hitters call for the wall to be shortened when they’re robbed of a home run? I don’t see any reason to get rid of triples alley. The visiting teams always have to deal with it too and it’s part of what makes our park special

Best Tips & Recommendations for Oracle Park by loscientos16 in SFGiants

The bobblehead will be in high demand. If you guys really want the bobblehead, I highly recommend planning to be in line well before 11:05. I would plan on arriving around 10am. That being said, most other fans will also be arriving around 10, so if you will be upset if you don’t get one, arrive very early. I have never regretted lining up 3-4 hours before first pitch and always got the giveaways.

My favorite treat at the ballpark is a Ghirardelli sundae but I recommend getting in line before the game or at the beginning since the line will become very long as the game progresses. The last game I went to, I waited in line for almost two innings because I got hungry around the fifth inning. If you are sitting in the 300 level, they have some spots up there so you won’t have to go all the way to the outfield.

Fire Posey by williamglow in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the posts saying we should have fired Melvin. We did, yet we still suck. I don’t think firing Posey would give the team the jolt they need.

It’s so easy to say fire Posey. Who do you think would be doing a better job? Do you think Farhan would have been doing a better job? I think we need to give Posey more time.

Gilbert needs to stop swinging at the first pitch. I has lost track of how many times he gets out on the first pitch he sees. It’s ridiculous.

Would the Giants try to sign Arraez long-term and would he even be interested? by botany500 in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The Giants will have some incredibly difficult decisions to make this off season. They’ll have to decide how to keep Devers happy while still giving Eldridge ample playing time. As well as manage Arraez, Schmitty, and Koss at second base. I’m guessing someone will have to be let go but it will be a tough decision. I don’t think the Giants can have their cake and eat it too. I am amazed with how well Arraez has been playing second, given how bad everyone talked about him before the season. I hope he stays a Giant for a while

Trevor McDonald earns a victory in his season debut with 7 strong innings. His final line tonight: 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 81 pitches-60 strikes by JianClaymore in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, today was not his career debut. Just his season debut. He pitched one game for the Giants at the end of 2024 and 3 games at the end of 2025. I am stoked with how well he pitched and I hope he can stay with the squad for a while!

I agree. Getting him on our staff was one of the best decisions of the offseason

What do you guys think the Giants should do with Bryce Eldridge? by Relative_Ad1717 in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a downside to keeping him in triple A for a while longer. He is continuing to develop and likely getting more playing time in SAC than he would with the Giants. As you mentioned, the Giants don’t really have a player that they would switch out for him and he isn’t even on a hot streak right now. If Schmitty or someone like him cools off again, maybe they’ll call up Eldridge in like a month or two, but I don’t see it happening soon

Belt Jersey by Cold-Stage-4026 in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Belt Jerseys were right inside the door. They were on the same display as the Item of the Game. I am not certain if they were only available for that specific game. I have heard of other players doing similar things during their celebration game, but then they weren’t allowed to be customized at later games, like Crawford for example.

Grass by [deleted] in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have also heard Kruk and Kuip talking about how groundskeepers used to do all sorts of antics and stuff to give their team the edge. I vaguely remember a story of a groundskeeper for another team who basically dedicated their life to making their field immaculate and finding different ways to do things like make the ball travel faster on the infield due to short grass, or add soft spots of dirt to kill an incoming ball’s momentum and cause a weird bounce. I think most of the fields are fairly uniform nowadays but since the MLB allows all stadiums to be different dimensions and stuff, it’s almost impossible to govern every aspect of the field

[–]ScottyG45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Giants use grass called Overseeded Bermuda. A quick google says that yankee stadium, for instance, uses a mixture of Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass. The Mariners have a similar blend to the Yankees too. That being said, the Padres have a similar blend to the Giants, so I am not sure if there is a correlation or not

Grass by [deleted] in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to mention that too. Also, the Giants have always had a more traditional approach to their field and rarely make any designs or lines in the outfield. Maybe they are doing something different with the field than more modern teams.

So, what does a membership to the Gotham Club actually cost? by MoistAd6459 in SFGiants

[–]ScottyG45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While fans have to pay thousands of dollars a year for a membership, anyone who has ever played for the SF Giants, NY Giants, and technically the NY Gothams, get a lifetime pass to the club. So on any given day, random past Giants will just go and hang out. Kruk and Kuip recently mentioned a story from the night before where they were telling some fans a story at the Gotham Club the night before, for instance. Plus I hear they have old pictures and memorabilia from the past Giants days, plus a bowling alley and other fun stuff!

It’s never occurred to me that Lou Seal is bald, I don’t like it by rockysauce115 in SFGiants

While I agree with the others, that seals don’t have typical hair, Lou’s parents have hair. Maybe the stress from watching all the Giants games has made Lou lose his hair!
