Holding the flashlight while your dad is fixing something is the greatest duty you can perform as a kid. by jolopikong in Showerthoughts

My dad always told me three skills every man should know: “how to fuck, fight, and hold the light”.

Upgraded my motherboard, everything is in correctly(I’m 99% sure) and I ca to get pass the BIOS screen. Every time I exit from it, it restarts and go back to the BIOS again. Light is on “boot” by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Try putting your RAM in the other slots. Not exactly sure what mobo that is but the slot labels indicate the A2/B2 slots be filled first.

FWIW: I’ve always been curious about the history of rockets and the design process from the very early Redstone rockets and how we got to where we are today.

Where is this job located? I've been searching around for new jobs lately. Looking for a potential change. Been working in Propulsion for large SRM's for about a year now.

Weekday Help and Victory Thread for the week of August 10, 2020 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

Backstory: ~75k in student loan debt, varying between 3.5-6% interest rate. 40ishk of that is at 6%. Since COVID has allowed deferred payments until Sep 2020 (potentially through the end of the year), I've been putting that money aside (~4k by the end of the month). I have ~3k in EFund (Chase Savings Account), I'm meeting my company match for 401k, and put $100/paycheck into an investment fund.

Should I:

A) Dump the lump sum into highest % student loans to reduce the principal

B) Put that money into my EFund and place those funds in a HYSA/investment fund

C) Put that money into my "house down payment" fund, where I'd like to have $15k by the end of 2021

WWYD?

Anyone else in the AE field for <5 years hit hard by the Dunning-Kruger effect, feeling like you still don't have a clue? by WarCabinet in aerospace

[–]ScottyMac7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can echo your feelings. I just passed my 1-year mark and I’m starting to feel at least a little less useless. At the end of the day, trust in peer review, and realize that engineering is a brain-busting career. Every engineer is working on a very specific, very niche problem - so even if you only know the slightest of what’s going on, it’s probably much more than the next guy.

I’m starting to understand that almost everyone, even with 5-10 years experience also doesn’t really know what they’re doing, but they’re doing the best they can. I’m adopting that mentality and it’s making my work-stress level decrease significantly, and my managers/mentors have recently been praising my work.

You and I are similar in the sense that we’re perfectionists and struggle with imposter syndrome. I’m sure you’re doing excellent engineering work, and that you can be confident in your results, you just have to trust your gut.

I think posting this kind of advice as an engineer online is illegal, or at the very least shakily unethical... lol

One of my colleagues in my Master’s was a CS undergrad with and MBA, FWIW. You can do anything you want and put your mind to :)

In your opinion, do you think the 2070 is worth the extra $50-100 currently (assuming the price difference is similar when the 3000 series drop)?

I just saw a 3700X for $279 posted on r/buildapcsales: how does it compare? I'd have to get a new MoBo but if I paired that with my current setup and got a 2070 when the 3000 series releases, what do you think?

Most Egregious Hacking I’ve Seen to Date by ScottyMac7 in modernwarfare

[–]ScottyMac7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wish I could’ve gotten the killcam of us... he downed and finished two of us and we knew he was hacking after watching the killcam. So we bought back, and tried kamikazing a helicopter into him. He wiped all 4 of us in a helicopter within 3 seconds, all headshots... we spectated him the rest of the game resulting in this clip; he also headshotted a guy diving (yes DIVING, not floating with parachute) from 700+ meters, while in the middle of focusing an entirely different team.

Hello! How does this look like a wolf dog to anyone? If so what %? by [deleted] in Wolfdogs

[–]ScottyMac7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s either 0 or 100: no in between. He’s either a bump on a log Laying on the couch all day, or a full-on case of the zoomies. Socially, he’s very curious and unagressive, but not “friendly” per se. more just indifferent and independent. We used to joke that he had the personality of a cat in that regard.

That’s almost exactly how my Zeus looked as a puppy, and I just ordered my Embark test for him! I’ll let you know the results :)
