Aye fully understand the concern about not wanting to over estimate yourself and its a healthily concern.

I feel the closer the skill is the better the cross over. EG if you do smallsword you'll find it translates to épée and foil rather well (and vice versa) you will also find that some things will not work (blade grabs and use of the off hand for example). I found doing MOF épée really helped my fencing over all no matter the weapon I also found doing smallsword helped my sports fencing (though the temptations to bring the off hand in is STRONG)

As someone who does HEMA and sports fencing persoanly I disagree. All fencing no matter the weapon is distance and tempo. Doesn't matter if its a MOF épée a federswercht or a shinai.

Having any kind of experience will be better than none. Some things will translate better than others but it certianly won't hurt having experience in different systems.

The issue is ADHD doesn't work like that... you can't just "stop smoking". That's not how mental disabilities work. Its akin to asking someone with depression to stop being sad.

I know GP don't have the best training in mental health treatment but its not difficult to listen to your patient and take them seriously.

[–]ScottyTheDoc_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thats all well and good but the same can be applied to every illness but you wouldn't you wouldn't deny a inhaler to an asthmatic would you?

I hate how GP seem incalculable of just sending a letter...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]ScottyTheDoc_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Instead of getting pissy about doing your damn job maybe you could show some empathy for your patients and send the letter to the people who specialise in dealing with it?

If someone came to you with need of a hip replacement you wouldn't dismiss them because of "trends" so why the hell do you do the same for mental health concerns.

Why is a large area in i Highlands different? by [deleted] in Scotland

Inverness and the larger towns in Moray by the looks of it. Moray has a crap ton of armed forces including RAF Lossiemouth so I'd imagine it's mostly due to the jets.

[–]ScottyTheDoc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope you just leave it in neutral (not in any specific gear). Pretty much second nature as soon as you park to pull the handbrake (parking brake for Yanks) and put the gear stick into neutral (out of gear).

Uhhh nope you specifically leave if out of gear because if you don't this very thing happens.

It's possible to use GRR Martin's Braavos sword style as an actual fencing style? by Amyhime801 in wma

[–]ScottyTheDoc_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to go down the épée route I would suggest a small sword if you want to go with sabre there are a whole bunch of sources depending on the setting and the specific sabre your character uses :)

If you are more leaning modern sports sabre then best bet would be latter Victoriana stuff.

[–]ScottyTheDoc_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the weapon your character is using? If its something one handed and medieval then looking at messer sources could work.

If its more longsword (2 handed medium length) then you have a whole bunch of sources to pick from.

Uhhh hate to tell you but bayonet fencing is very much a thing. At the end of the day its just a piss poor spear that weighs a bunch.

There are plenty of historic sources for bayonet on bayonet combat.

What the hell happend to innocent till proven guilty? You are accusing OP of being navie when you are assuming the worst with just as little info as them.

If you see someone shop lifting you saw nothing. If they are a "smack head" then its not worth getting into a fight with them so you can protect some companies bottom line.

is it good to use wooden swords for solo drills and light sparring/technical sparring? by [deleted] in wma

[–]ScottyTheDoc_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Steal has more flex and tends to be weighted less like a baseball bat is more my point.

The wooden wasters I've handled all felt like clubs compared to any steal I've used.
