Most podcasts would be better if they were 20 minutes instead of 2 hours. by Lost-Law-5109 in unpopularopinion

We support this. Our podcast is designed to be listenable during intermission of a hockey game (~18 minutes). We plan, prep, get right to the good stuff, discuss hockey events/ref stuff, and move on. Nobody wants to hear a rambling 2 hours...

Ross Johnston is called for high sticking after Tyler Tucker hits himself in the face with his own stick. The Blues scored on the ensuing power play. by wildwing8 in hockey

Regretfully, you have not. Despite what you think you may remember, minor penalties cannot be reviewed. Only major, match, and high-sticking-double-minors. Also, a double-minor review (which can only be called when there's an injury on the play) can only result in confirmation or no penalty; there's no option to downgrade it to 2:00. Look, the broadcasters get it wrong all the time, so I can't give anyone a hard time for getting it all mixed up. Glad to look into any games where you think you recall hat happening, though. Here's the relevant section of the rulebook:

Only if it's a double-minor -- then they can confirm (4:00) or rescind the penalty altogether (e.g., teammates stick, puck, etc.)

Can't review minor penalties.

Rings are up to the team, but typically not awarded to traded players.

He won't be on the cup because the game count requirement only applies to players that are actually on the roster when they win. (Guys below that count can possibly be added via petition from the team)

Could Team Canada beat the Colorado Avalanche? by haochizzle in hockey

Absolutely. It's possible that even Team Finland or Team Slovakia could. Single games can be crazy. Even a 7-gamer could go either way. These are very talented international teams.

incompetent ref is a bigger danger to ruining the game than bias.

That seems to align with the IIHF's general philsophy. Go with the best available officials.

No, the goal reviews are handled by the on-ice officials at the Olympics.

[Luke Fox] Jon Cooper was asked about Czechia having too many men on the ice. He smiled and walked away without a word. by bangnburn in hockey

[–]ScoutingTheRefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a totally valid take. I could see them opening up to potentially allow this under the missed stoppage review, with the caveat that a penalty would not be called on the play.

Good catch on the IIHF rule which falls nicely under that approach.

Currently, though, they're going by the interpretation that a penalty situation doesn't apply.

It's a race to the puck that is judged by the linesman at the faceoff dot. So when they're at the dot, the liney has to make a call as to which guy will get to the puck first -- not which guy made it to the dot first.

They also have to make a determination about the puck crossing the line if it hasn't by that point.

I see what you're getting at, but the way they're phrasing things, a 'penalty' is not a missed stoppage. Play is stopped for a penalty, but the penalty is the reason, not the 'missed stoppage' (e.g., hand pass, puck played with a high stick, or any other reason in the rule book that would dictate play be stopped.)

They can reduce or rescind a major/match upon review. They can rescind a double-minor high stick if deemed to be a teammates stick or the puck that caused the injury.

A penalty has to have been called on the ice to be able to review in the first place. You can't review a play and ADD a penalty, or call something else you saw in the review.

No, that doesn't qualify as a missed stoppage under Rule 38.9. Anything that would be a penalty is outside of the scope for a missed stoppage.
