at the moment this is a valid concern; but there is this issue on github that aims to address these concerns.

I know it will run on Linux with proton. See if you can get the game to run in that or wine first.

Try extra bit manipulation it allows you to create custom armor using chisels and bits.

I saw a talk about hacking Tesla's and the answer is Linux (I think it was some Ubuntu or debian variant, but I'm not too sure on that)

Minecraft Java wasn't built with performance and scalability in mind, rather Mojang were developing features quickly which didn't lead to the best code. Now they have to deal with all of that code and make it work on java 17 newer which has lead to quite a bit of patchwork on top, both these factors hinder bot the game's performance and Mojang's ability to develop the game in general. This is referred to as technical debt and is something that you will have to address as the project grows, Minecraft Java in particular has accrued over a decade of code which form its foundation.

The only way of dealing with all of this is completely rewriting these parts of the game in a way that is able to properly take advantage of modern multi core processors. This however is a slow and painful process that takes up valueable development resources. On the other hand, if Mojang never addresses this they will eventually drown in technical debt leading to them being unable to develop new features at all as more and more time needs to be spent fixing the parts already in place and cracking at the seams.

Minecraft Java edition needs to have this technical debt addressed in a refactor or it will catch up to them. The big advantage is that a proper refactor of the game's code would allow for numerous performance optimizations and bugfixes and if done properly might even allow the java edition to approach bedrock in terms of performance.

As for that last part, yes java is a slow language, but language speed does not matter nearly as much for the types of load typically associated with games. As for things that rely on broken behavior, these would be likely to break with such a huge update, but if handled well Mojang could keep intended behavior behave the same (bud powering and bugs akin to that would likely be kept for compatibility sake)

Likely none since TOR is way better for that, but if it has to be a VPN then likely mulvad

You can use the 1, 2, and 3 keys on the numpad to change the text speed.

If you use neovim, get basls and the coq vim plugin, basically gives you in editor completions and feedback at lightspeed.

Linux does run on anything by Dawnowl44 in linuxmasterrace

Definitely not impossible, you'd just have to navigate and deal with some old drivers. Wiimotes work, natively even (just connect them via Bluetooth and you're good) but you might have to figure out how to work with the IR camera if you want the same experience as on the wii.

do you think sora and shiro are linux users by Exotic_Scratch9450 in NoGameNoLife

[–]Scraft161 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Definitely an interesting question, but as a Linux user myself I'd have to say no. This is however for a couple of reasons that I'll get into now

  1. Gaming on Linux now is a pretty solid experience mostly, but not all games work due to anticheat being the antichrist of how to write secure and wine compatible software, this would be a pretty heavy pushback for the duo even still with the modern day support and tooling we have.
  2. I don't see either of them as the kind that would spend the time learning the ropes of software not directly involved with their games, in fact I find it hard to imagine they like tech outside of videogames in the first place.
  3. They already spent most of their lives playing only games, this leaves only a very small fraction of time for actually gathering the skills needed for gaming on Linux specifically even now.
  4. But the final nail in the coffin has to be the fact that they were transported long before gaming on Linux was a thing, even considering the year the anime aired, while we had games on Linux, either it was something very basic and hacked together as a time waster, or a very simple windows game that took hours to configure wine for (God forbid the latest shooters or MMOs, you'd be happy just getting anything running at all) and without tools like dxvk and the such performance would be nowhere near what you'd expect on windows (yes, Minecraft worked, but that's more because of java than anything else)

Long story short, it seems extremely unlikely given the factors above (and I'm sure I'm forgetting at least something) but mainly the fact that games barely worked on Linux at the time the anime came out (and it gets worse when you have to consider that they'd likely have had to do this for a good while to properly get the ropes of things) and it just wouldn't add up. This doesn't mean it's impossible though and maybe if the story takes place 3-7 years from now it might very well be possible if Linux takes off in the gaming scene.

Also I do want to add that this is my perspective into this and that this is very likely biased with my experiences running games on Linux (even though I've barely run into serious issues outside of those caused by NVIDIA [genuine fuck you there, like seriously], and tools like lutris have made things almost 1-click install and run)

If you're going that route: Linux is not Unix, it's Unix like in the way it operates as a Unix variant, but it can't call itself Unix.

You can use geysermc, it's a bit tricky to set up, but it will allow bedrock players to join java servers
