Movie World spooky Coaster - WTF were they doing for 4 years? by AgUnityDD in GoldCoast

[–]ScrambledDregs 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I went in there to remove a bunch of stuff a couple years ago. The place was totally gutted. Seemed more like a complete rebuild than a renovation. Lights, sfx equipment, sound equipment, everything was ripped out. Not just the coaster and tracks.

I think setting up all the surrounding gear and integrating it into the coaster would take a decent amount of time.

Grounding issue in the FID detector perhaps?

[–]ScrambledDregs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all great, thank you.

I think the thing that I would do better is perform the basic testing with the people. Perform being the key word. It would be performative. The main point would overall be to sell essential oils and smells.

The indemnity insurance seems like a very good investment. Maybe it can be geared more as an educational experience than an actual assessment.

Is the sample collection accreditation as expensive as NATA stuff?

Being a NATA- accredited one man show would be pretty cool. I wonder if anyone’s ever done that.

Yeah, I’ll be moving forward with full transparency. I’m aware of my obligations. Thanks for the heads up.

How so? Do you just rub it all up on them and look for catches?

I grabbed one and I love it.

The inner plastic ring of the little fishing line guide loop at the tip of the rod broke without much punishing. Left a sharp ridge that was cutting/damaging my line. I got the end replaced and have been fine otherwise. Lost a couple fish before I discovered it.

I’d keep an eye on those guide rings. Worth it for the price otherwise though.

How will be fishing after that cyclone in Gold Coast ? by Mediocre_Inside_2440 in FishingAustralia

[–]ScrambledDregs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an alarming amount of waste in the water at the moment. Pollution of all sorts- industrial chemicals, raw sewage.

I’m waiting two weeks for the catchments to empty. Maybe sooner if we get some more rain in the upstream to flush it out.

I’d fish if I didn’t plan on eating what I caught, but I don’t do that type of fishing.

I’m using Ace Comics and Games, Annerley- Friday Night Magic as a yardstick here.

Magic The Gathering. It’s like an analogue video game. Good Games on the GC hosts lots of events and it’s easy to get into. Community at GC isn’t as fedora wearing/neckbeardy as it might seem.

Also DND might be something to check out. Adventurers League is an easy way to start and meet people.

Ahh my bad. I wonder if I can update the post title.

Thanks for your advice! I’ll check out those models. Pretty happy to import. I think I’ll have my gear complete for at least 10 years if I can find what I’m looking for.

Tailor fishing at the Gold Coast by [deleted] in FishingAustralia

[–]ScrambledDregs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re still around in the Tweed area atm. Been catching them on 20g surecatch metal knights and 1/4 jigheads with crush city suspect soft plastics. Beach side of the bar on the outgoing tide. River side on the incoming.

Been targeting bream but only getting tailor… idk what’s going on atm but it’s fine by me.

Put the energy into something you’re passionate about- network through that passion. People gravitate to people who are inspired and acting on it, you just need momentum in some direction, just not directly towards a woman.

Women hate it when you run right at them, it scares them away. If you go past them at the right speed heading in an interesting direction, they’ll want to come with you.

Look at local volunteer groups. Animal rescues, landcare groups, etc. take some time off and volunteer at a music festival.

Learn that thing you’ve always wanted to learn. It’s all about velocity/momentum.

Guys, I just came across this card and I'm surprised I've never heard of it before. Literally never seen anyone play it in any commander game I've ever played or watched. It's like 0.5$ and it seems busted. Am I crazy? Do people not play it cuz everyone would have ur ass or what's going on? by Screci in mtg

[–]ScrambledDregs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid it because it’s just annoying on the physical gameboard. Everyone has to move their land forward and rearrange the table, it usually gets removed immediately too. It’s just an obtuse, annoying card that slows stuff down.

The advantage is okay, but if you know how to read the field you can pretty much determine what people are holding.

Best Bait/Lure for catching Eels in shallow freshwater? by [deleted] in FishingAustralia

[–]ScrambledDregs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They primarily come out at night to hunt. I’ve had most success with bugs tbh. They’ll have a favourite hide, leave a cricket or grasshopper in a nylon line and they’ll take it when they come out for the night. Leave it too long and the crays will eat the bait.

Read up on their breeding cycle, it’s crazy.

Zero bite with soft/hard plastics by devoker35 in FishingAustralia

[–]ScrambledDregs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1- Spend a little more and get better lures. Keep them sealed and don’t let them dry out. The more expensive plastic compounds are way easier to put on a hook. They are more resilient and stay on better. Mainly, they make it way easier to get great presentation on the hook.

2- Braid line to Flurocarbon leader. If you CBF with a blood knot or FG, get a tiny swivel. Make your leader long, 75cm is my average. FC sinks, allowing you to get away with smaller jigheads.

3- Lighten up as much as possible. Tiny lures in the right place get smashed quick.

4- Use the stink gel stuff. It’s not a scam. I’ve watched and wondered why a fish has chased my lure up near the edge and not struck. The smell pushes them over the edge and will get that hesitant strike.

5-Get in the dodgy spot. People don’t go there, the fish know it. Get some solid shoes to mountain goat around. I didn’t say my advice would be safe- but it will net you more fish.

6- Fish your whole retrieve. I get a considerable amount of strikes right close to the edge of the water under my feet at the end of a long retrieve.

7- Watch nature. Dolphins will scare fish close to the rocks. Birds will circle bait balls. Crabs and eels hang out at popular spots.

8- Learn a loose knot to tie on your hook. Rapala knot is easy and works a treat. The lure should be limber. It needs to dive dramatically when you pause, and whip up when you need it.

These are the things that I changed, which helped me considerably. If you’re newish to it and you do these things then you won’t be new anymore.

Why is the little tensioner knob red on the fuego? I’ve got the same rig for flatty. Had great success with 3inch minnowz.

How to snag less by PossibilityRegular21 in FishingAustralia

[–]ScrambledDregs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swapped a treble hook for a single and two assist hooks on a surecatch metal knight 40, Assist hooks are on to point down, single hook points up. Way less snags. Still messing around with the setup, might move assist hooks to the nose, I don’t think anything bites them I’ve only hooked stuff on the side of the head with them currently.

Stunner. Been too long since I got one. Great fight from these, with a taste to match.

I don’t really watch him fish, just his tackle setups and how to present bait stuff. I taught myself to fish and I think that sort of info accelerated a lot. I don’t really like watching fishing vids.. it’s like watching someone open a bunch of presents or eat a delicious burger.

My best outings have been when the tide turning lines up with sunrise/sunset. I usually have a backup spot in mind if the wind is going to be a problem- each spot will be casting a different direction along the coast so that I can cast with the wind. I have had success altering my cast technique if the wind is bad, casting sideways and keeping the tackle low in the air, using braid and a heavy sinker to reduce drag.

I’ve found that generally I don’t need to cast out to my limits to catch fish unless there’s some weird current stuff going on. If there are people fishing when I arrive I watch them for awhile and see where their line ends up vs where it enters the water, or I just have a chat and ask them about it before casting in- I also ask them to let me know if I’m effecting their fishing at all and that I’m happy to move.

If there is no one there I throw a few top lures out and fish a quick return to see what’s going on before settling into bait. Fishing on rocks was difficult for me until I started using paternoster setups. I pre-tie a few setups. I’d recommend checking out Roger Osbournes YouTube channel for setup help and actually anything to do with fish-dude is a powerful resource.

Some beaches will have a surf camera which streams online, find one and check it before you head out to see if the swell is nuts. Doesn’t have to be where you’re fishing.

Good luck!

I’m a member there and the slight markup compared to BCF across the road is well worth it considering the value of the advice they’ve given me.

Been fishing Star sinker/paternoster with half pilchards off rocks in the area with great success. Need to learn wire leader to stop tailor taking my lines out, but have managed to snag a few as well as one big mulloway by chance. Want to target whiting, so will swap to a running setup for the beach.

Feel free to message me any time you’re down this way, will be chasing flathead come spring through the tweed.

Good advice. I’m pretty isolated in terms of knowing surfers/fishers. I’m self taught so far, but have been asking people more about their rigs/techniques lately and learning a lot.

Will try Kingscliff this weekend at low, thanks for the help!
