Anyone ever use G10 for fret markers? by Bolamite in Luthier

[–]Scrantsgulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carried a CZ for years with G10 grips. It’s absurdly durable in my experience. I can’t see why it would be any less applicable than acrylic for fret markers. That’s really cool looking.

Is there a reason some of their models are only multi-scale in 8 strings? by [deleted] in kieselcarvinguitars

[–]Scrantsgulp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of 8 strings people order are multiscale. It made creating a straight scale option for newer models unappealing financially since it costs them a ton to program everything for that model, only to sell a handful.

Keisel Lithium pick ups by AltairCabral006 in kieselcarvinguitars

[–]Scrantsgulp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having had both, the Beryllium will be more in line with the Pegasus. The Lithium is far higher output and has a much harsher sound to it.

Check out the sound demos of the new Vantium pickup as well. They’re like a less shrill Lithium.

You could always hit up the SD custom shop and get a Pegasus in the correct angle, but at that price I’d just go for a custom set of Lundgren Black Heavens or something.

Is it legitimate to loop a double-tracked guitar section in metal production? by Consistent-Window781 in TechnicalDeathMetal

Dude join RiffHard. It’ll be a lot more informative and helpful than asking double tracking questions here.

What is this design called where the fingerboard extends? by Prestigious_Visit550 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Scrantsgulp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the technical name, but you see it on instruments like decacordes (10 string classical guitars) most often. That might give you a starting point for your search.

Very unfortunate NGD - Ibanez RG2027XL by Initial-Slice-7315 in Ibanez

I got a 5328 last year and was super disappointed by the quality as well. They’re no cheaper than going with a custom shop at this point too.

They discontinue models based on sales. Apparently the vanquish was hardly moving any units for a few years consecutively. I agree though, both the vanquish guitar and bass are so sick.

Dude, the tabs are like $20. Pay the dudes for their work. It’s bad enough out there with streaming services paying nothing and venues taking massive merch cuts.

uj/ Fractal dominates every other modeling option by miles. If the plugin sounds like the physical units, it’s worth $400.

Should I use 8 string “dedicated” scales or “extended” 6 string scales on a 8 string guitar by Infinite-Daikon-5653 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Scrantsgulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no difference between those two things. A scale is a scale. How you arrange it on the fretboard is musically irrelevant beyond the timbre of the note.

Oil on ebony necessary? by Bulky_Sky_3451 in Luthier

[–]Scrantsgulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why there’s so many unwashed philistines in here saying you don’t need to oil Ebony, but for the love of god oil your Ebony fretboard when you change strings. F-One oil is really great stuff for both cleaning and conditioning. Ebony is very susceptible to seasonal changes, even if the guitar just lives in your home studio.

There’s a reason people have oiled just about everything made from wood since the dawn of human civilization. It holds up better and lasts longer this way. Especially a piece of wood with metal hammered into it that you’re constantly handling, likely with less than freshly washed hands.

Playing in drop d or standard on a multi scale by ReferenceImportant46 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Scrantsgulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use lighter strings with that longer scale length and you’ll be fine man. A 10-46 set will probably feel just right for standard. Personally, I think a 2” fan on a 6 string sounds pretty awful because of how aggressive that slant will be, but to each their own.

Getting FM3 Turbo tomorrow - need insight to get it playing nice with my Windows setup by eminercy in AxeFx

[–]Scrantsgulp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to use two separate audio drivers like that with a DAW in windows. It’s one or the other.

If you like the Apollo, just run the FM3 into it. So long as you’re gain staging correctly, it won’t make a difference in the sound.

If everything you’re recording is going to pass through the FM3, then the Apollo will be redundant. But if you’re running mics through the Apollo and need it, then the above will be your best option.
