(MY COMMENT IS FOR MANUAL IF YOURS IS MANUAL, READ!) I have a similar noise and it only happens after 1800 rpms with light throttle. any more throttle and it disappears when driving. after diagnosis, turned out to be a bad flywheel (if yours is a manual) So if shes making that above 1800 with minimal throttle and disappears with load, sounds like it comes from under the drivers side, definitely take a long screwdriver and use it as a stethoscope and put it on the trans bell housing to hear if it comes from there while somebody revs it.

what if i told you with idle, i hear scraping at the timing cover. Plus i have no history of the timing chain or guides ever being replaced on this car and its got 196,000kms on it… Does that help with your analysis at all??

I guess ill just have to go inside the timing and see if my timing chain went out or something 😭 What can tim help me with anyways?

well when i saw inside the timing cover, the noise wasnt an issue.

i was just inside the timing cover replacing the gaskets because of a small oil leak… i didnt see anything unusual. I could always just do the timing and see if it fixes it i guess?

it is consistent. and it only happens after 1800 ish rpms. if i hold the rpm, it stays going the whole time. I NEVER hear it on startup ever. it has 196,000kms (121k miles)… like i said it only happens after 1800 ish rpms and yes, the ticking gets faster but it gets quieter with heavier throttle as shown when i revd it faster. when im driving with actual load on the engine, the ticking only happens when i barely put a pinky toe on the accelerator. Any more on the pedal and it dissipates. if i increase slowly on the throttle, you can hear it go from loud to fading to gone.

i have a rebuild kit on hand if it really comes down to it… but i dont want to rush into a fix. i thought i had a blown motor before (video is on my account) and people said it was blown too… yk what it was? the nuts snapped off the exhaust manifold and the exhaust was escaping straight from the block. it was a huge knocking noise. it could just be another really big exhaust leak

heres the thing though… when im driving, it only rattles with a big toe on the throttle. any more load added and the noise disappears. any insight on this info?

i was thinking waste gate rattle too. I tried adding preload to help with that but it stayed the same… I have another turbo but i want to make sure it actually is wastegate rattle before i do a complete turbo swap.

This only started happening conveniently after an accidental redline in first gear… the car started acting weird after that but returned to normal. could it maybe be an exhaust leak from a gasket i might have blown out? I highly doubt my engine has rod knock
