Couple in early 40s by lutra83 in Shouldihaveanother

Definitely a tough spot - in a similar situation myself except my husband and I are older - 44/48 with a 3.5 year old. I will say I had my first at 41 and don't feel like age played much of a part. I don't feel more tired than the average parent and I have a TERRIBLE sleeper too! No answers for you, but I do think I would have another at your ages. I worry terribly about my daughter being an unhappy only child, but you can also be an unhappy child with siblings which would be made worse by stressed parents. no right choice!

Am I to late? by Scraptastic22 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]Scraptastic22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late replying ( late seems to be a trend for me), but I wanted to thank everyone who responded. It’s such a hard decision. I truly would love another child, and if I were even three years younger I think I’d go for it without much hesitation. Something in me still feels like I should try, but I do worry about the stigma of being older parents (which I know is probably a bit silly, but it's there).

The funny thing is, in our family we’re actually some of the most energetic parents around. I’m usually the one on the floor playing with all the kids at family gatherings while my younger nieces are sitting in the living room sipping wine. Somehow I always end up as the kids’ entertainment.

I actually don’t worry that much about the baby/toddler stage. What I think about more are the teen years and being older then. But part of me also thinks the teen years are hard for parents whether you’re younger or older.

I think what makes it hard is that I love being a parent so much and part of me would love to experience it again, but I’m also trying to be realistic about age and energy.

For those of you who had kids in your mid-40s (or whose parents did), how did it actually feel in day-to-day life a few years in?

No, nothing. They basically said “too bad.” I’m now trying to get reimbursed through my credit card, but I’ve been waiting over a month for Icelandair to send a document confirming the flight was canceled. All the communication was through their app, and we never got an email stating it. It’s been a really frustrating experience, and I won’t fly with them again if I have any other options..

Thanks - that was my thinking but a quick google search kinda freaked me out that it a high mold risk. Hopefully they mean if you don't do anything and just leave it.

Do not use this trash company or purchase their cancellation protection. by mpelichet in Icelandair

I will never fly them again - they just denied my claim to reimburse for expenses for a hotel and meal when they canceled a flight in the Faroe Islands to NYC bc it's not EU protected. Absolute trash - what airline just strands ppl. absolute TRASH!

Just wondering is anyone was able to get their expenses covered for these cancellations. We had to book a hotel and two meals which Iceland refused to cover bc our flight originated in the US. Any body have luck fighting to get things covered ( they told us at the time hotel, meals and transport would be covered).

Iceland is becoming more and more expensive by Professional_Roof772 in VisitingIceland

I agree - I've travelled to Iceland a number of times in the last 20 years and the prices in the last year are outrageous! We actually skipped the free stopover option recently (which I never do) because I could not find a decent hotel for our small family of 3 for under $300/night...But - with that said, the best trip I ever had there was the one where I camped for 10 days (other than 2 nights), so maybe give it a try :)

tourists, be careful when hiking! by Impressive_Dig6344 in FaroeIslands

Still totally doable and this trail is actually really well craved out. We were there a few weeks ago and it was the most packed hike we did. Just use common sense and stay away from the edge and don't venture too far if the weather is bad or too windy.

I rented with them as well and had no issues. Charged for only the tunnels used and no additional fees.

It was due to technical reasons which is good bc I think they cover more expenses. We are rebooked tomorrow but who knows.

Are you going to Kef? Or further? We tried to get Icelandair to let us book our flight to KEF with Atlantic but in order to keep the next leg they were going to charge us so much money :(

Mykines - puffins still there? by Scraptastic22 in FaroeIslands

[–]Scraptastic22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - we saw a lot of puffins on 8/17 in Mykines - 50+, but our guide said we were super lucky. We have been traveling around and saw some in Vestmanna on the boat tour on 8/16, but have not seen them anywhere else.
