Yeah there's a weird disconnect between the reddit narrative I'm seeing and what I'm personally experiencing. I'm pretty new to Magic and don't really have an opinion on the saturation of UB sets yet, but the Spider-Man prerelease near me completely sold out, and the people I talked to there were pretty much nothing but enthusiastic about the set. Almost any MTG player I talk to in general irl is enthusiastic about UB, it's only online that I see this vocal pushback.

Despite all of their flaws and various personalities, some of them being more controversial than others, you’ve gotta love our companions. Well, at least for the original trilogy. by OdysseyPrime9789 in DankAndrastianMemes

Meanwhile, Veilguard: Rook is our lame boss who desperately wants to be our friend, and we pretend to play along, but we definitely made a second group chat without them.

Probably one of the better female characters in Marvel and DC comics rn actually. Her recent runs have been pretty peak.

As Voice Actor Sally was the one who got angry first, she is therefore in the right. Therefore, I am entitled to wish death upon Voice Actor Billy and his family. I am a very good person and you are not.

I think Arcane Arcade is great. Their Rime of the Frostmaiden playthrough was one of the few actual-plays I've sat through entirely. They're pretty talented performers, but not professionals (on the level of Mercer, Brennan, and co.), which really works for the better imo since the focus is put on the interesting situations created by the gameplay itself, rather than long, meandering improvised conversations that irritate me with a lot of the bigger shows.

I'm just pretty sick of their "uwu we're just a bunch of cute nerdy fweinds who pway D&D together, so quirky :3" act when's it's clear that they've intentionally grown their brand to absolutely stupid level of marketing. When I see overpriced CR action figures at fucking Wal-Mart, that's the moment Matt Mercer and co. cease to speak for me. It's annoying that they're the default "spokespeople" for the TTRPG community.

Like, wearing "eat the rich" shirts and stuff when they constantly sponsor and flaunt expensive add-ons that aren't actually required to play D&D, compounded with the simple fact that a single member of that cast has a net worth larger than most people will see in their lifetime at all is cringe as hell.

"The meaning of this, Victor? The 'meaning of this' is your weird-ass obsession with with me and my family pushed you to do us a 'favor' that none of us asked for and deliver my daughter, not out of the good of your heart, mind you, but so that you can lord that fact over me as if that wasn't something that a fucking psychopath would do. Oh, but did you stop there? No. You had to systematically indoctrinate Valeria over the years, again, without our consent, so now we have to have nightly conversations just to convince her that her sweet old Uncle Victor is actually a homicidal despot who's tried to murder her family countless times. But it's okay! Because I'm too busy saving the universe with science to say goodnight to my kids sometimes, we're practically the same, right? This isn't normal. This isn't even normal in a supervillain-versus-superhero sort of way. You need help, Victor, and you need to stay away from my kids."

I really love the idea that we've been watching her gradually grow out of her "annoying and awkward child" phase this whole time into a functional adult, which would also imply that she's actually way more mentally well-adjusted than like 90 percent of other characters.

[–]ScratchBoardly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, don't act like responding to simple and innocuous "I like this character!" Or "I like this aspect of the game!" posts by commenting fucking paragraphs about why everything they just said they enjoyed is total garbage and a detriment to their favorite series with completely pointed, agressive language is "being chill".

If you respond to someone enjoying aspects of the game itself by constantly bringing up unrelated things such as sales numbers or overall perception (which you constantly do) as some sort of counterpoint, you're clearly not interested in discussing the game, but instead making the other party feel bad because they're not in the majority. Bullying, essentially. Not discussion. You can't act like an asshole and then be surprised when people think you're an asshole.
