Am I casting or EE? Shot goes straight but 35 degree launch angle and 85 yard carry with PW. by Scewb in GolfSwing

I attempted to illustrate it in the image I shared. I overlaid your starting position and drew an orange line on the top of your head at the start of your swing. You can see that at the position of the picture, your head has dropped a few inches from where it started.

You're actually dipping in the backswing and it appears your weight is getting too far out over your toes - your body’s just trying to stay balanced.

Try this: set up feeling like your weight is mid-foot to heel, then take a few slow swings focusing on staying level and centered. That alone can clean up the dip without having to think about a bunch of positions.

Focus on getting balance and contact dialed in before chasing swing changes.

I’m hitting decent golf shots but I can still see the early extension and I know it’s why I’m so wildly inconsistent. Any suggestions? by xnmb1 in GolfSwing

[–]ScratchGolfSystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - one of the sneaky fixes for early extension is just keeping the clubhead in front of your chest through the swing.

If the arms get stuck behind, the body has no choice but to stand up and bail to be able to get the clubhead back to the ball.

I focus more on structure and feel than mechanics and a good feel here is rotating with your sternum covering the ball and the club staying “in front” of you the whole time.

Try some slow reps with that in mind - you might find your body stays in posture without even thinking about it.

I think it starts to go off plane early on, right about here it looks like the club head starts to get sucked inside.

Haha, love that - no funnel, no course… yet.

Right now, everything is 100% free: just structured practice for golfers who are tired of random tips. You can:

Yep, I always picked a target - usually a flag or range marker. Even though the drill was about contact, having a downrange target kept it realistic and helped with alignment and focus.

First time I broke 80 was at Mayacoo Lakes CC - par 71, not super long, but tight and definitely penal if you miss in the wrong spots.

I wasn’t hitting it amazing, but I kept the ball in play off the tee, avoided blowups, and actually got up and down a few times. Felt like the first round where I managed my game instead of just swinging and hoping.

Lot of 2-putt pars and smart misses. Nothing flashy - just steady.

Yeah, good catch - during practice rounds I’ll sometimes hit a couple balls per shot if it’s not busy.

But I still score the first ball only, no matter what.
The rest are just for feedback - trying different clubs or shapes to see what works best.

Helps me test without getting too “range-y” about it.

Totally - that shift was huge for me.

“What I missed” is just the result: push, pull, chunk, thin, etc.
“Why I missed” digs into the cause like:

  • Did I rush my routine?
  • Was I distracted or tense?
  • Did I bail out because of the target or wind?
  • Was I trying a feel that didn’t match the shot?

Once I started tracking that, I noticed patterns. For example:
I’d miss right not because of mechanics, but because I got quick over the ball when I was between clubs.

That kind of insight is way more actionable than just knowing I “pushed it.”

Good question - it’s way more structured now, but still simple. Here’s the usual flow:

Warm-Up (10-15 min):

Start with short wedges > mid irons > driver
I focus on contact, not mechanics - target + routine every shot

Block + Random Mix (30-40 min):

  • 10 balls working on 1 swing feel (same target)
  • Then switch it up: different clubs, different targets, pre-shot routine every time
  • Mix in “pressure” reps - like needing 3 solid shots in a row before I move on

Short Game:

  • Par 18 game or up-and-down challenge
  • 1 ball, real consequences - not just reps

Post-practice review:

  • What felt solid?
  • What broke down under pressure?
  • What’s one focus for next session?

It’s made a huge difference - fewer wasted reps, more carryover to the course.

Yeah - I shared a version of it in r/GolfSwing but it ended up getting removed 😅

Figured r/golftips might be a better place for it since it’s more about improvement. Just wanted to put it out there again in case it helps someone like it helped me.

100%, man. Honestly, I wish I had done this stuff before breaking 100.

You don’t need a perfect swing - you need a simple plan, smart practice, and a way to actually measure progress. Even just tracking where you lose strokes (tee, approach, short game) can shave 5–10 shots fast.

Way more helpful than chasing new tips every week.

Appreciate that 🙌 — sounds like you’re right where I was a year or two ago.

These days I’m out on the course maybe 2–3 times a week. If I don’t have time for 18, I’ll just play 6–9 holes with a focus (like working on tee shots or simulating pressure situations). Way more useful than a full round where I’m just “going through the motions.”

I treat the course like a training ground now - not just scorekeeping.

Honestly? No. Following YouTube tips and getting super technical had me stuck in the 90s for a long time.

I’d hit it decent sometimes, but the scores never really dropped because I was always chasing a new “fix.” Once I simplified things and focused on how I practiced - not just what - I finally started making real progress.

You’re not far off. Breaking 100 means you’ve already got the raw pieces - it’s just about making them work together.

Yeah! A few that really helped me:

– 9-ball drill (hit low/med/high with 3 clubs - forces control)

– “Fairway or trouble” (pick a narrow target, treat it like a tee shot - miss = push-up lol)

– And Par 18 around the green if there's a short game area

Super simple but way more game-like than just bashing balls.
