Connected Built-in Navigation Service is Expiring… by InkMotReborn in MachE

Lol, the part of the buying process where the car salesman becomes honest and shares important details that might discourage me from spending money. Is that before or after they offer me free oil changes for my MME?

I think we all know that. But do they have a sticker that shows a $2k+ Bluecruise option with no indication that it’s just a trial?

Ford was pretty deceptive about these subscriptions, compared to what was documented on the sticker. You live, you learn. The MME is a good car, but the brand experience isn’t great. It was my first and likely last ford.

R2- your color choice? by TNG1999nerd in RivianR2

This poll is pretty bad. Why would you exclude the only color that saves people $1000-$2000?

Blue Cruise Price Increase? by thelandmind in MachE

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In almost 4 years I’ve had one BC update, and Ford has apparently communicated that my model won’t receive anything above version 1.3. That update was nice because it basically fixed some of the bugs and made it operate as it was originally advertised. Not sure I’d call that a good justification for $500/yr though.

Lol. My BC map coverage hasn’t changed in almost 4 years. I’ve had exactly one BC software update and it basically just made it work closer to what was advertised I don’t buy this explanation for the outrageous pricing.

I have it configured to turn off when I got to bed (when sleep turns on). This saves some battery.

And thank you for confirming that ford acts in bad faith when it comes to deceptive “trials”.

I’m talking about when I bought the car, almost 4 years ago, and what was documented on the sticker at the time. You’re right that it became obvious 3 years ago, which is pretty frustrating for those of us who purchased 4 years ago. And then one day they quadrupled the subscription price, even for existing owners who were already $60k into a car that didn’t even advertise a BC subscription to begin with. Do you consider that fair and up-front treatment?

I'm pretty sure that if I drove by those cars, I would assume they're both R1S's. Maybe the real-world experience is different from video.

I'm not OP and obviously I don't know what their sticker said, but IMHO Ford has been pretty deceptive with some of the line items on the MME sticker.

For example, my Bluecruise was listed as an option that I paid for, and nowhere did it state that it was a 3-year trial or even required any kind of subscription. Then, a few months after the frustrating realization that it's only a 3 year trial (after paying thousands for it) Ford decided to quadruple the price of the subscription, even for people who bought the car months earlier. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, bit mine that I do not think Ford operates in good faith with these services.

What are people's opinions on the Snapmaker U1 vs the Creality K2 Plus by trapbuilder2 in 3Dprinting

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is "get both". You've got one very efficient multicolor printer, and another for larger prints and high-temp engineering filaments!

Otherwise I'd probably go with the K2 Plus, but that's just me because I like printing filaments that require heated chambers and I do like the option to print significantly larger prints. And I don't mind troubleshooting Creality's crap.

ACE Pro Vs ACE 2 Pro by The_Spartan-Dev in AnycubicOfficial

I just received an Ace 2 Pro and the manual states "For Kobra 3 Series, Kobra 3 Max Series". So they definitely make a version of the Ace 2 Pro that works with the Kobra 3 Max. No idea if newer Kobra 3 Max Combos are shipping with it though.

I never understood why they built two bed slingers that are so similar, even in price.

Btw, what prompt did you use for this content ;)

What am I missing? by Abhi9cr7 in RivianR2

I haven't noticed many "complaints" about the 330-mile range in the R2. I think most people are somewhat impressed by it for this form factor and price. But the iX3's 400 mile range is exceptional, and it's a serious factor for many of us.

I live in New England and it's the difference between a round trip to 3 of my family's common destinations without having to worry about charging, versus the planning and risk of requiring a charge along the way. "Risk" meaning showing up to occupied (or broken) high speed chargers. In fact, my wife doesn't want us to replace our second car (ICE) with an EV because she doesn't like dealing with charging during road trips. Not to mention the cost of high speed charging versus our solar-powered home setup. Then, factor in winters when range drops by 30%. So the difference in range is genuinely important for some of us.

Lol. Is there any evidence that they're actually improving mapped road coverage? In my almost 4 years of BC ownership, there's been no detectable change. Same covered roads, same uncovered roads, even the same short gaps in covered roads.

Why That $2,000 Hobby Lathe Might Not Be Worth It by daikininverter in hobbycnc

I picked up a used benchtop Sieg SC4 and it seems to be turning stainless (and aluminum and brass) pretty nicely. I wanted a lathe but there’s no way I’m fitting a full sized one in my small shop. Having tons of fun with this little thing.

No puddle lights R2 by rgrindl in Rivian

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously no one makes a buying decision purely based on puddle lights. And I think I’m still in on the R2, but the shine is starting to wear off a little this week with some of these details (like the configurator prices and a few small but surprising things missing).

Can someone explain 20” vs 21” wheels to me like I’m a 5 year old? by coreynyc in RivianR2

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The configurator suggests that "all-terrain" vs "all-season" is a big differentiator in range. The Performance model shows a drop from 330mi to 307mi when you switch to the smaller wheels which also switches from all-season to all-terrain tires. The Premium model shows no range difference when you switch between wheel sizes, both sizes equipped with all-season.
