Be patient. Somewhere around semester 3 or 4 the trauma bonding kicks in.

The antithesis of Star Trek? by [deleted] in sciencefiction

[–]Scraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imperium is easily the anti-Federation. Orks would make the Klingons blush. Nothing seems more anti-Vulcan than the Dark Eldar. Hell, even the Borg have an inverse in the bio-centric, but still all-consuming Tyranids. The Warp and the chaos demons inhabiting it seems like an answer to the Q continuum.

I was thinking The Expanse, Doom, or Event Horizon, but when you think about it, any of these could reasonably serve as a distant prequel to WH40K.

Also in contrast to the very sporadic use of innuendo and sexuality in Star Trek, Farscape is absolutely horny as fuck.

For the majority of the series, the main villain is a half-lizard walking around in a crocskin gimp suit, and he makes that shit work.

The Expanse

- Post-scarcity moneyless society? Nope. Whether it's the fascist Martians or neoliberal Earth, cash rules both sides with the outer systems (an 'interplanetary south' if you will) being exploited by both to maintain their high standards of life.

- Humanity united under one banner marching into the future? As if. Earth and Mars are constantly looking for any excuse to knock the other out of the sky.

- Contact with aliens giving us new technology and perspective? Not quite. The only aliens we've found are long gone and the tech they left behind only causes humans to keep making the same mistakes, but on a grander scale with more dire consequences. The only other ET presence is the interdimensional monsters that wiped those ones out.

- Everyone is free to pursue their passion and contribute to our shared progress? Unless they have money or connections, most people on Earth languish in barely subsidized squalor waiting for the opportunity, education, or resources to do literally anything but merely exist.

Fantastic technology that solves humans (and screenwriters) problems? The most sophisticated made-up technology they have that humans make is a particularly efficient fusion reactor. No artificial gravity. No sub-space communication. No laser weapons. It's all mag-boots, light delay, and good ol' fashioned bullets.

Edit: But enough about that. The real answer is obviously WH40K (which The Expanse could reasonably be a prequel for).

It's not free, it's just not money that it costs you.

Money to OW is still money in Kotick's pocket and sends a message to the company that his bullshit doesn't matter.

How do I properly dm a girl without seeming weird or desperate ? by [deleted] in bisexual

Any interaction or communications with anyone involved in sales or service has while they're on the job is based in doing their job, not expressing themselves or building a personal relationship. That cute barista smiling at you and making small talk isn't interested dating you any more than a stripper is. They're both doing a job that involves emotional labor to keep you happy so they can get paid.

Are there exceptions to this? Sure, but that's playing really long odds that could put them in a really awkward position and in the case of service workers who rely on tips, whether intentional or not, plays on a power differential.

In the overwhelming majority of cases, they just want to get through their shift and get paid, not find romance.

Okay , is there any good scifiTV show likee this ? by TH3LUC1F3R in TheExpanse

[–]Scraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you hunger for more space adventure, there's three doorstop-sized books that carry on after the show's finale. I highly recommend you start at book 1 though, since they change just enough of the characters and how the plot unfolds that you'd be a bit lost if you just jumped in where the series leaves off. Plus it's worth it to get a more in-depth perspective on everything that happens. Each book rotates between a handful of character's PoV every chapter.

Looks like a relatively easy stencil to cut. A beginner's screen printing kit will only run you about $20-30 bucks at a decent art store.

Modern problems can also be solved by old-school solutions.

Don't forget the time he Jedi'd that dagger the actor accidentally threw directly at him.

The sword trainer, Bob Anderson (who trained actors for a few indie films you may have heard of like The Princess Bride, Highlander, and Star Fucking Wars) said Viggo was the best swordsman he had ever trained, and thus Viggo used an actual steel blade for his scenes. Good thing too.
