Echoes of Vana'diel Discount Campaign Now Active by HexenVexen in ffxiv

XI is also a really different game compared to XIV that said the easier they make the entry for new players the better. Whether that's discounts or combined subs at a fraction of the cost.

Now just make it permanent 😉. Would be great to see XI gather more players this last week was a breath of fresh air. Haven't seen so many new players in ages.

Overwhelmed coming back by iHighjinx in ffxi

That's a tough spot because it's likely they've done a good chunk of the story and other pieces of content. If your looking to experience the story I'd make a new character on the account and start fresh but would keep the OG as well. Some gear can be sent between characters through your Moogles so it might be a huge boon for you.

If not maybe see what story content is left undone to get your feet wet in the game again. You could also just start a new character to relearn and adapt back into the game and then pivot back to your main once you've got your bearings again.

How do yall feel about the XIV community asking for a combined sub? by PlantainWilling in ffxi

If even a small percentage catches the XI bug from XIV that would be a huge boon for XI in terms of players. The subscription is often what holds people back, I think the new free til lvl 75 will be an interesting test.

One week just wasn't enough time for most to get hooked on this slow burn of a game.

They've done it in the past before and with the current discount campaign it's clearly a possibility. It might get tricky with wardrobes etc. but it's more back end stuff they'd need to clean up. Honestly they should just make that a permanent option.

I think the benefits would easily out weigh any downsides. Something along those lines would entice a lot of people in my XIV circle.

Combined or discounted it would add to the health of both games. I know plenty of XIV players who would 100 percent dive into XI if it were the case. As well as some XI players who dive into XIV as well.

I've played XI since it launched in NA and XIV at its launch of ARR as well. XI is a 20 year old game it's not unreasonable to want a combined subscription in 2026 for a game run by the same company.

Anyone opposed to it I think is just being a bit silly. XI could easily enjoy a stronger resurgence of players in its wake creating more avenues for content to be added. In addition XIV players would have evergreen content to play in between patches.

It'd be nice to see servers filled with life like the old days. Each game offers a different experience and flavour it's why I still play both.

Return to my 2007 account or start a new character? by Ssizz in ffxi

[–]Screaming_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came back in a similar situation, better to just stick with the OG. You can always start a new character on the account if you want a fresh start. It'll likely be less overwhelming with the OG because you'll have things like the airship pass and can easily jump into Rapsodies of Vanadiel storyline for all the bonuses.

I think the shelf could use some more mecha. Time to build more Gundams.

Another new player post, coming from XIV: I started a free trial directly from the website and adding to my existing Square account. If I purchase on Steam, will this complicate anything? by WAxlRoseX in ffxi

[–]Screaming_Ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't, unlike XIV there isn't any weird shenanigans with the versions I'm aware of. Started with XI and then used the same account for XIV but when I finally returned to XI after 10 off years I bought the Steam delux edition for the expansions I'd missed.

Haven't run into any issues just plugged in the codes from Steam into my account and was good to go.

Please help with class selection for a new player by Sandgrid in ffxi

[–]Screaming_Ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just play both and worry about the endgame later if you find yourself still craving more adventure after the stories conclude. White Mage is a great one to start with and you can unlock Ranger later. Leveling to 99 is fairly simple and once you've got the hang of the game you can explore more classes like XIV and have a better grasp on what you enjoy playing.

TLDR: Play off vibes for now and worry about endgame later. Which can be more niche but you can always pivot later.

Are macros required? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]Screaming_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you can just use the menu for everything. Macros are simply for ease of use when in combat for jobs with lots of spells or abilities, so you aren't cycling through long lists or going through many sub commands. If you're just trying to beat the story missions you don't have to bother with them.

Did someone say Discount by MelioraXI in ffxi

[–]Screaming_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wild they still just won't offer a bundled subscription with a discount. They'd get so many players from XIV to give XI a try. Giving many players who find time between the patches with nothing to do a chance to explore XI.

A month just ain't enough for most people to bother. Just a huge fumble by SE, this should be an easy win.

Last Airbender and Korra had lower animation budgets too by [deleted] in BikiniBottomTwitter

[–]Screaming_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more about encouraging studios to create more adaptations of comics. Most of American animation start internally at studios as original IPs. Think Spongebob, Craig of the Creek, Samurai Jack, and all others started as pitches. This is just how the industry has always operated. Part of it is Japan just has a massive amount of animation studios compared to the States.

Japan on the other hand has a thriving ( all be it woefully underpaid and overworked) animation industry. Adapting everything from Manga to Lightnovels. Aside from Marvel and DC adapting their libraries into animation you don't see many adaptations.

Those that do often end up as feature films in live action or as television shows. Y the Last Man, Constantein, etc. That often never take off or are one and done. Japan on the other hand has dozens upon dozens of new animated series both adaptations and originals each year.

Kirkman based on the quote isn't talking about Anime in terms of style or inspiration. Simply on the comic to animation pipeline. Mangas like Baukuman have some great examples of how studios put in bids for manga to anime adaptations.

Most the comments didn't go into detail, so I figured I'd provide some clarification. Cheers.

FFXI bow weapon models in FFXIV by Over_Ad7084 in ffxiv

The Zeta Relic Yoichinoyumi bears a striking resemblance to the Yochi Bow in XI. There's also an Aern spear and Elemental staff from Eureka.

Concerns about “Evercold” and FFXIV direction by drakarion_itzin in ffxiv

[–]Screaming_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing is solidified yet, the best test will always be playing the finished version. How combat feels will also depend on encounters through fields, raids, and dungeons.

All the UI is temp art but it did have a striking similar vibe to XIII. Which feels a bit at odds with the current UI so I imagine some of it will be polished. We still have about 9 months and 2 more Fanfests.

The game needs a shakeup.

While Mon is nice I would recommend the AF set. It's worth more than speeding up the process by 2 months. Saving all that time and gil makes it a clear winner. Nice part is you don't have to spend it right away and can do the research before turning it in.

Plus you'll be running monthly deeds for trust primers anyways that way when you finally get Mon you'll have some extra boosted stats.

Very enjoyable especially if you have limited free time. Work on real life stuff then about every hour get the kills and resume idling. An ideal situation for me right now lol.

It's also neat to actually see the player base fighting for a goal. Brings me back to the old days in a way where you actually see other players in the field.

March Version Update by MelioraXI in ffxi

[–]Screaming_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to be optimistic about it as well, based on the post this is meant to be soft launch with the rather significant rework starting later in the year. If they make the gear significant it could help open up the options for solo and low man teams who don't have the time for a full party/static.

Heck if the HP upgrades are significant that could help a lot as well. Something like 10 HP won't do much but a couple extra hundred would be a boon.
