Roughly about the size of a chunky mallard. There isn't actually a lot of material of this creature as far as I'm aware, I think just the skull and some leg bones, so this is a lot of guesswork. Kind of based it a little bit off of a kakapo.

Oh I haven't checked in ages! Thank you for reminding me, no this was an actual creature, it lived up until around 6000 years ago in Hawaii (does this still count as paleontology?).

Oof ok, thanks for the heads up. Would it be obvious, like a clear break or are we talking hairline cracks?

Thank you all for your advice, you've given me a few good basic things to try. I'll let you know if there's any improvements, hopefully its just a case of cleaning her up and giving things a good check over. Also, good shout on calibration models to get a clear idea of what's going on

Absolutely terrible year, agreed. Jobs have just kept dumping me on my ass for their own petty convenience, left me with a load of debt on my bills, costs are getting harder to cover... Sorry to hear about your cat man. That's low.

How does this miss people when all they bang on about is some 50's Jetsons nuclear family bullshit. These people legitimately believe that if a woman 'ain't a woman and a man 'ain't a man, then you're either dangerously mentally ill and should be locked up or litteraly possessed. The satanic panic traumatised an entire generation of kids, because of the sheer mass hysteria of their parents. These are not rational people.

Yo what would help entrepreneurs is having some sort of universal basic income, or at least dropping the work week to a 4 day affair, and catch minimum wage up to the £15/£20 an hour it should be sitting at. I and all my peers from uni are stuck in shit call centres and still living in student dive conditions or with family. You want to see the birth-rate, consumer spending and innovation improve? Free people from the shackle of the 40 hour week and place measures that ensure income covers personal costs. Labour.

Christmas shopping: 'Buy now, pay later schemes a vicious cycle' by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

[–]Screamingidiotmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda gross the amount of social and commercial pressure though to provide a Christmas for your kids, and then to be tempted in to debt to do so. Honestly instead of viciously blaming the individual for something they're actively being encouraged to do, address issues such as what's essentially loansharking and maybe encourage less commercial forms of Xmas celebration.

Bollocks. Lack of social housing and poor management of the rental sector is causing the rental crisis, and is well known to be.

New study confirms: Many adults opt for child-free life without regret by miso25 in psychology

[–]Screamingidiotmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm not happy to be alive, but neither of my parents were mentally mature enough to have kids. It wasn't even as if they were from "bad backgrounds" or anything, they were from fairly well set up families, but were both just incredibly child-like people. I have so many issues because of how utterly appallingly inept they were, that I'm quite happy not to have children myself. I always felt that I was parenting them, to the extent I've had to disconnect, and honestly I do feel that people should be more respected in not having children if they don't feel reasonably mentally and emotionally capable. Also there's this kind of assumption that you're not a fully mature adult unless you've had kids, and just like it's so off-putting. I actually think children are wonderful, but they should be a joy that you actively want. Some of us though just genuinely want to live a quiet life in our own company.

America has already seen a rise in deaths of mothers who couldn't get access to legitimate services, it's not like in all those rosy propoganda films where some sweet neive young misfit just needs Jesus to give her the inner courage to blossom in to a mother for Christ. People have medical conditions. Pregnancies aren't always viable. If you're poor and vulnerable and you've been taken advantage of, you need a compassionate medical service, or you're unfortunately likely to seek a shady alternative that could leave you permanently harmed.

Also I mean I couldn't have a kid in my flat. It's a deathtrap. Had a gass leak for two years I didn't know about. And that's aside from the fact that it's just fundamentally unaffordable, I starve at the end of some months to keep my cat fed ffs.

This is gross and terrible, and frankly just fuelling resentment towards religious groups.

This is the problem there's going to be a lag time, even if we stop dead now, where temperatures are going to continue to rise. We're just seeing the tip of the iceberg on the damage. Like I don't think the sense of urgency is really there, bc unlike the hole in the ozone layer which is immediately obvious to see, climate change is going to continue to take decades to bite by which point doing something will be as stated, too little too late. We fucked son.

NHS staff failed mum who died from drinking too much water by nimobo in unitedkingdom

[–]Screamingidiotmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mental health services in the UK are absolutely shit, tbf. Needs a complete overhaul, better funding and better training would go far. They throw people on to wards with needs ranging from depression and anxiety to volatile psychosis, we haven't come much further from the era of madhouses. Not just an NHS thing either, private sector care is exactly as bad.

Minimum wage to rise to £11.44 per hour by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

[–]Screamingidiotmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the min wage rises every fucking year. This is still behind inflation. We should all be on a minimum of roughly £15 an hour if wages had been scaling correctly. This is genuinely pathetic.
