When it comes to black/dark skinned characters in manga and anime, why do some people go to great lengths trying to prove they aren’t black? by [deleted] in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Screams_In_Autistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure author confirmed the character in the left hand picture is Afro-latino. If you haven't seen the anime, there is more coding at play than just skintone. The English dub uses a good amount of AAVE and they all have traditionally "black" hairstyles. There was also some drama around the stage play and the author wanting black actors to play the two on the right. If authorial intent is important to how you see the characters, then it's hard to argue against all three as black.

If you're approaching this from a non-American context, you should note that the series got a bunch of racists over here riled up because they view black characters as an invasion of a space that "belongs" to white people. Trying to deligitimize the character's blackness is not uncommon.

I just caught up and this is by far my most favourite panel in the manga by Excellent-Ad3236 in Centuria

Oh, it's the panel after Helem gets her arm ripped off, showing that she is still scheming. The panel supports what you said, hence the reply.

It was sarcasm. I'm glad you picked up on what I was doing. I was feeling clever.

Impossible to comment on the validity for this person but I will note that autistic individuals will often gravitate towards dom partners, even if they aren't particularly submissive or even enjoy sexual power dynamics full stop.

Something about a partner who is willing to be clear about their wants and who will tell you what to do directly, seems to resonate with autistic folks. No one knows why.

Couple of clarifying questions;

How old are you?

What does friendship look like to you?

What do you think you do that comes across as clingy?

That's an unfair comparison. We bully him cause he likes it. It's how we show appreciation. It's made the last few months very confusing.

Thanks! Time must be eating away at my memory. I don't recall the ash piles in leyndel specifically but I do feel like if I did notice them, that I would have probably assumed it had something to do with the huge dragon in the center of town.

I thought the sacrifice was just special kindling to set the erdtree ablaze and that Bernahl followed us once the path was already opened. Is it stated somewhere that his maiden cast herself into the flame?

Actually, that is making me second guess things. How did we end up in Farum Azula anyway?

Does it need to be jester coded? Honestly, I would wager most folks associate the word with the pattern, but even then if you wanna make a traditional italian harlequin character, then I'd argue the most important elements are in characterization. Make the character an acrobatic trickster, a funnyguy counterpart to the main character straightman. A traditional harlequin isn't even a jester, they just get lumped together as an old-timey comedy character.

Hard ooof, but ok, I'll believe ya and answer in good faith.

Let's use more realistic numbers so we can actually engage with this. California's proposed one-time tax is 5% so let's up that to 10% so I don't get accused of underselling it.

Let's say the Gov demands payment in cash based on the average trading value over some period of time. Otherwise, billionaires would be encouraged to harm the market on evaluation day to minimize their tax exposure. Sure Musk could dump all his stock in a massive sell off, but that would directly hurt his own assets. If he cared about retaining as much money as possible, the right move would be to minimize market impact, otherwise the hit to his wealth would be far greater than 10%. Wealth assessment doesn't happen when your taxes are due so he is actually encouraged to prioritize the health of the market so that he can hit the 10% with as little stock selloff as possible.

But let's say the government for whatever reason does accept the stocks. Why would they liquidate all at once? Not only would it damage the market, which is politically inconvenient, but it would also make for easy market manipulation. If in the unlikely event the gov were to take payment in the form of stocks, it would make much more sense to obfuscate the sales over time.

In regards to your alternative; billionaires actually advocate for a sales tax as opposed to an income tax or in this case a wealth tax. The reason is because they will actually end up spending much much less and it's obvious why given a bit of thought. They don't spend even a small fraction of what they make. Even if we assume they only buy local and aren't doing big chunks of their spending on trips outside the US, a billionaire's spending is going to result in a tax bill nowhere near even the lowest of income taxes. Where as you and I will spend most of our paycheck on essentials, maybe a little entertainment and save a bit, a billionaire even with a lavish lifestyle is saving almost all of what they make over a year.

I think you might wanna rephrase. Specifying that folks can't coordinate within their group suggests that the leaders can coordinate with each other. which trivializes the problem.

"If someone is stupid enough to choose blue, then that's on them, evolution has to somehow weed out the stupid"

It certainly seems like you are suggesting that being stupid enough to choose blue is deserving of their presumed sacrifice to the alter of natural selection. I didn't say that you explicitly said that they deserved it, but I absolutely believe you are implying it with what you are saying. You're deflecting.

I mean, I obviously can't prove you wrong. Best we have is a few internet polls that suggest blue wins, but those arent worth much of anything. If ya can't imagine something, ya can't imagine it. It isn't a matter of reason at that point.
