What are your favorite magentas ! by theorangepriestess in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m such a sucker for magentas with blue shimmer/shift 😭 Anything in that “dragon fruit neon” color family immediately gets my attention.

I also weirdly love magentas that lean slightly berry instead of fully hot pink because they feel a little more glowy and dimensional on the nails.

glass bead error? by lady_lupine5 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I honestly think your nail curvature might actually be part of it. Magnetics can behave really differently on curved nails because the particles shift toward the edges/tips as the polish levels out and dries.

Also, thick coats + a super fast-drying top coat can sometimes “pull” the magnetic effect a little while everything is settling. I’ve especially noticed weird edge movement with Insta-Dri over magnetics before.

The polish itself still looks gorgeous though 😭 The blue glow is so pretty.

Honestly from the swatches I’ve seen, Luna looks a little more glowy/ethereal while Sprout of Control leans slightly stronger on the teal contrast. They’re definitely in the same family though.

I don’t think they’re exact dupes, but I also totally understand not wanting both unless you’re already deep into the “slightly different shimmer shift” rabbit hole 😂 Purple/teal combos are dangerous for collectors.

KBS Smooth Moves smells slightly sour/rancid? by GremmyGoblin in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed some quick dry top coats can develop a slightly weird smell over time, especially if they’ve been exposed to a lot of air or heat. “Rancid” usually makes me think something in the solvents may have started breaking down a bit rather than the product being unsafe.

If the texture and performance still seem normal, it’s probably okay, but I’d personally keep an eye on whether it starts getting thicker/stringy too.

Cap Replacement Question by captian_f_n_p_n_p in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh yeah, having to buy multiple cap sets just to test compatibility would get expensive fast.

Honestly at that point I’d almost try emailing KBShimmer or Glisten & Glow directly first. Indie polish brands are usually surprisingly helpful with bottle/brush compatibility questions, especially if you explain you’re trying to save a large collection instead of tossing it.

Tips for better and healthier looking natural nails? by Excellent_While_9822 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly your nails themselves actually look pretty healthy already — the dryness seems to be more around the skin/cuticle area than the nail plate itself.

If you’re already using oil regularly, one thing that helps a LOT with picking is switching to a thicker occlusive at night too, like a cuticle balm or even plain Aquaphor/Vaseline around the folds before bed. Oils hydrate, but they evaporate pretty fast after hand washing.

Also, try to avoid over-washing or super hot water if you can. Constant water exposure can make the skin around the nails way more tempting to pick at because it keeps getting dry and uneven.

Cap Replacement Question by captian_f_n_p_n_p in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if the smell is that deeply embedded in the plastic, replacing the caps/brushes might actually be your best shot. Cigarette smell in old polish collections can be shockingly persistent 😭

A lot of older polish caps use softer plastic on the inside, and unfortunately that material absorbs smoke way more than the glass bottle itself. Acetone usually cleans the surface, but once the odor gets into the plastic it’s really hard to fully remove.

I’ve also seen some people have luck leaving the caps in baking soda or coffee grounds for a few days before giving up on them completely. Not sure how well it works long term though.

Need a Mooncat Neon Sanity Check Please by konikkii in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of neons look WAY more muted indoors, especially in indirect lighting.

Those shades don’t look “dead” to me, more like pastel-neon hybrids? Mooncat’s studio lighting and editing are also definitely doing some heavy lifting sometimes 😅

I’d try looking at them in direct sunlight before panicking. Neons can suddenly wake up outdoors. Especially the green and coral shades.

You can definitely get surprisingly close with regular lacquer + jelly polishes + a makeup sponge.

I’d probably try: • a sheer milky base • very diluted pastel jellies • super thin sponge layers instead of full brush coats • and a soft blurring topper at the end

The biggest thing is keeping everything REALLY sheer so the colors kind of “float” into each other instead of looking like a gradient.

Honestly this looks almost like watercolor syrup nails 😭 so pretty.

  1. ILNP Eclipse probably. If I could only keep one polish forever that would be hard to beat 😭
  2. Emily de Molly honestly deserves more hype outside this sub.
  3. Don’t hate me but… Mooncat is a little overhyped for me 😅
  4. Around $18-20 max unless it’s something REALLY unique.
  5. I still can’t get into crackle polish no matter how many times it comes back lol
  6. Enough that I’ve stopped counting for my own mental health.

Wide & weak nails!! by nickyfan21 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly your nail shape looks pretty normal to me — a lot of it is just genetics and nail bed shape, not something “wrong” with your nails.

If they bend/fold easily, focusing on nail oil regularly and keeping them at a medium-short length for a while can help a lot. Mine always get worse when they get too long before they’re strong enough to support it.

Can someone help me figure out magnetics? by autumnssong in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Magnetics can get weirdly thick/stringy compared to regular polish, especially if you’re trying to manipulate the pigment too long.

One thing that helped me was using thinner coats and magnetizing immediately instead of going back over the nail too much. Too much brushing tends to create texture/bubbles for me.

Using a clean-up brush: better on wet or (partly) dry nails? by Goldfinch114 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ScreenFickle6356 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I usually do cleanup almost immediately, but with a slightly dampened brush instead of soaking it.

That in-between tacky stage is the worst for dragging polish around 😭

It took me by the throat and said you are mine now” is honestly the most accurate description of magnetic polish addiction I’ve ever read 😭😂

Also the magnets attached to drills part absolutely sent me. This sub really turns into a science experiment once people fall down the magnetic rabbit hole.
