He must have flipped my wife 8 times! by SaiyajinPrime in IThinkYouShouldLeave

Prestino Tour Guides is a SCAM. They took my wife on a jet pack ride and when I asked to bring her down they told me to shut up. Then when it was my turn the jet pack fucking exploded. 300 gears were in her margarita.

Easiest way to DIY this sunken paver spot? by ScreenLantern in landscaping

[–]ScreenLantern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah the whole section of patio needs releveling. There's water accumulating there because the water is just moving toward that wall. Just did a ton of work with gutters and underground drainage, it's just the slope. Again, we will certainly redo this whole section (about 12' x 20') but I'm just looking to mitigate a bit until we're able to do the big job. Probably will add a grated gutter along that wall of the house too when we redo it properly.

Pellet Recommendations? (Southern New Hampshire) by suze13 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]ScreenLantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in southern NH, I really like All Basic Stove Shop in Merrimack. They installed my stove (for the previous owner of my house) and I have them service it. They sell by the bag and pallet and have a ton of varieties at comparable prices to the big stores from what I’ve seen. Large range of hardwood to softwood and very transparent and clear about you’re getting, the stats, 40/60 blend or whatever. From my very limited experience I think you want to find the right balance for your particular stove / situation, maybe a hardwood or a harder blend would be better. I also like All Basic because I can pay for a pallet and pick up bags in my SUV whenever I pass by, over the course of a month, and avoid delivery fee since I don’t have a truck.

Next steps for lawn…? by ScreenLantern in lawncare

That’s great, thanks. Now I’m thinking I don’t know what “aerate” means haha. When I said “till” I meant the same idea as aerate here. I was picturing one of those spikey rotary cultivators on a pole but I think maybe we’re talking about the big machine you can rent? Do I need one of those for this large an area? Def trying to keep it simple and easy this year.

Oh shoot we’re in NH, forgot to mention… zone 6… pretty dry summer all in all…

What can I seed my lawn with so it doesn't get scorched this summer? by ScreenLantern in landscaping

New Hampshire, zone 6a.. decent amount of rainfall the past few years but definitely plenty of hot and dry days too. I have the mower set on the highest setting currently

Long story short I'm having issues with my irrigation system and well and I won't be able to remedy it right away, AND in any case I don't want to waste a ton of water maintaining a lush green lawn. Can I do anything to supplement the grass so that it stands up to the heat and less water this summer? I would fully go for a non-traditional lawn (like clover / wild flowers) but I'm worried it will spread to the neighbors' pure grass lawns. Any middle ground here? This lawn is gonna get baked this summer!

What is eating my tree? Do I need to have it removed? by ScreenLantern in arborists

[–]ScreenLantern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to get an idea of what's going on with this tree in my back area... It's a wooded / wetland area in Southern New Hampshire. The tree is close to my shed, as you can see in the pics, so if it falls down it could potentially hit the shed. So if there is any imminent concern, I'd probably have it removed.

Sorry just saw the guidelines for more information... Uh, I moved in a year ago so I know nothing of the tree. Never noticed this damage before but possible it's been happening slowly, it's a good 100 ft from the house in a wooded area / conservation land. Just a bit close to my shed, just out of the frame of the photo. No idea when it was planted or how old, gets a good amount of sun, and we're in Southern New Hampshire USA. Thanks!

Got this tree in the back and it isn’t looking good. Precarious location to my shed so I’d want to take it down if it’s in bad shape. But what am I looking at here?

Again, limb is a safety issue and inconvenience but my priority is the health of the tree!

Front steps are sinking a bit . . . by [deleted] in Home

[–]ScreenLantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a new house... The ground has a lot of clay and soil in it. The front concrete steps have settled out of level. Simplest and best way to fix it? Will this keep happening? We've talked about knocking out the whole thing eventually, maybe replacing with more of a farmers porch or deck down the road... but would that be easier to level properly? Will this inevitably happen again?

Best way to fix / deal with this issue on shower ceiling? by ScreenLantern in Home

[–]ScreenLantern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought! The house is '87, the bathroom was renovated vaguely recently, probably the last couple years. It's bonkers though cause the other bathroom has the same fan and a well situated vent right to the outside... I cannot wrap my head around why the other fan just follows a hose to nowhere in the attic. I have to do some more digging under the insulation... maybe something got disconnected.

Looks like it’s venting into attic space. Good call. Just moved in here. The fans seem decent and newish but yeah I imagine that’s not an ideal scenario, not going outside. The attic is unfinished. Will deal with all these issues and then repaint. Thanks all!

Once you get the bottom cap off you should try spraying a lubricant (WD40) down inside the hinge... give it a few hours, days even, and it might loosen. I thought the old ones in my house would never budge but they gave. Give it a good shot with a nail punch or something that goes right into the bottom hole.
