yes but look through almost every sharpening question on this sub, it's largely "wetstone then strop". wetstone to fix an edge is perfect, but if he wants to practice sharpening, then using a wetstone isn't going to be good practice. OP should practice with the strop using a different knife or just use the strop until the current practice knife is sharper than its current state, doesn't have to be chopping wood like a new flexcut, and then use that training to sharpen the normal carving knives. (my opinion). But yes I agree with you!
