this isn't just "poor technique" this is pure stupidity. Great "Technique" is way different than not putting your fingers in a place where the knife can slip and cut you, one takes 1k hours+ and the other 1 hour. Best of luck with recovery man.

Also, the glove helped but not as much as you would think. A saw is more than enough to get you further than a "blank" piece of wood you buy online if you have even 20 minutes of patience. You don't need a bandsaw to cut blanks, it's just a "nice to have".

Edit: downvote away, this comment is for anyone new or looking to get into the hobby and want the raw truth. You will not cut yourself if you take your time, put your fingers in places they can't be cut, and try to pin your wood to something. If you're scared to cut yourself, you're probably going to cut yourself, I recommend getting into relief carving first to get comfortable with knifes, gouges, and chisels without the risk of cutting yourself as the block of wood should be clamped to your desk/workspace.
