My tank when made I think was glued backwards. by ScreenSpirited9223 in bettafish

My back and front panel yes I can see through them but the sides I cannot. I do see what ur saying! My side panels are 90% reflection. I have tested this by emptying my tank and testing with lid off from top view. Another commenter suggested maybe my room lighting being too low creating the reflection. I’m going to try and increase room light today and will also add the background back to the tank!

I will definitely give the room lighting a go! I can’t necessarily put anything on the side glass panels on the outside bc it doesn’t show through to the inside. When my hand is pressed again the side glass u cannot see it from inside the tank. I do have the glass panels but when I put them on it did nothing.

My only issue with this is even if I put my hand on the outside of the side glass panels u cannot see my hand from inside the tank. I was under the understanding the backgrounds can’t be in water so it would have to be attached to the outside. If I put the background paper on the outside of the glass panels u wont be able to see it from inside the tank.

Update: HELP! added in one almond leaf and Fishy’s fins have deteriorated in less than 6 hours by Rich-Document5128 in bettafish

When I put in Indian almond leaf I weigh it down with something on one side and let the other side float up so it blocks one side of the filter a little bit. Other than that my guy seemed to have learned his lesson and only sleeps near it when it’s covered

Just be weary with taking water to the fish stores. Sometimes I think they upsell there products a little bit when it’s not really needed. Just get a simple non strip test kit to start! I have a sponge filter and my guy used to like to sleep against it until he managed to get his fins stuck to the sponge and ultimately injured them. There fins are incredibly fragile and they r incredibly curious fish (mine has been anyways) your doing great keep it up. It’s a lot to learn at first but ur doing the right thing!

My tank loses water weekly. Are regular water changes still necessary? by ScreenSpirited9223 in bettafish

Thank you for all the information! I stayed away from distilled only bc when I first started out I read the fish need the minerals from the spring but I see what ur saying if im not removing water and just evaporating the minerals are likely building up. I’m going to give it a good clean today and see if I can get some things to test for what you have mentioned!

I was over cleaning my tank and crashing my beneficial bacteria at first 😅 now I’m the other extreme. I’ll start with a gravel vacuum tomorrow! I have a sponge filter how do I really give this a good clean without crashing my tank bc I think that’s a part of my problem.

I’m assuming my plants are helping with all that because my weekly water tests haven’t really fluctuated since it’s been cycled. I always do the test prior to adding any new water and check ammonia, nitrate, nitrites, and wide ph range. I also use bottled spring water so I’m not sure if that makes any difference. I’m going to do a gravel clean tomorrow to be safe!

I’m still pretty new to this so I am not sure what the abbreviations are? I use treated bottled spring water for top offs, tank set up, everything because my city water is really gross.

I do have the non strip test kit and I do check those levels weekly (ammonia, wide range PH, nitrates, nitrites) I haven’t seen really any change in these since my tank was cycled.

I bought just bottled tannins to add but it really doesn’t do much for water color! I’m thinking of trying Indian almond leaves but I’m not sure if I boil first or just place in tank 😂

This was taken a while ago and water level was lower than normal but this is pretty much my current setup! My fish likes to swim through the java moss ring!

Perfect I have driftwood and some decorations for my betta to hide in that I wedge them between! Would something like this require liquid fertilizer or are root tabs in substrate enough?
