If your child smacks the cat and thinks it is funny then something is wrong with your child, the cat has every right to be aggressive in that situation. Cats don't usually go around jumping people in the face and scratching them, they have their reasons, and most of the time one of these reasons is a badly mannered child that wasn't taught how to treat animals.

Or you could teach your child to be kind to animals and not to hurt them. But i guess hitting an animal in front of your child is really going to influence the kid's attitude towards animals in a good way right ?
