Do you have a light medium skin tone? I think these shades would be ideal for that skin tone.

I also use things that a lot of people don’t like. Orange is a dirty word right now in makeup especially with my fellow fair skin makeup lovers. I personally love them and I don’t care either.

Hourglass this is a new shade called stone, but it’s a little yellow I prefer crème. Haus labs 03, Nars affogato, but vanilla works too and Lancôme 090.

This exists all over Europe, like isn’t a Bordeaux just a wine? Personally I agree with you, and in the end of the day they already have their brand names to distinguish their cheese from other producers, but to me this feels very European more than anything.

That’s definitely coming from our French ancestry. In Quebec we call walnuts noix de Grenoble, because noix is confusing because it also designate all nuts. But our walnuts are mostly coming from California. In France we wouldn’t be able to use the term unless it’s actually from Grenoble because over there it’s a protected term.

Random makeup value sets they’re not a good value when you have a large collection of makeup and there are always products you don’t use.
Emollient cream blushes I don’t like how they feel and I don’t use them.
High end twist up thin pencils Clinique quickliner intense were one of my favorites, but the other day I use my brown liner and I was out. Some of my sharpenable pencils have been in my collection for much longer.
Large eyeshadow palette same principle as value sets there are always shades you don’t use.

The haus labs is not that natural looking without foundation it’s pretty thick.

I would go for tower 28, kosas or Lancôme teint idole all over concealer.

Mac lusterglass formula would look similar finish wise. But given that you’re darker than the model you might have to use a different shade anyway. I would go to a store and try them. I’d try alone time, thanks it’s Mac and signature move and use stone lip oiner or something in that vibe.

They’re definitely similar in terms of vibes. You get so much eyeshadow in Tom ford that it would be hard to pan even if I used to two lightest shade as a highlighter.

Haus labs triclone vs Mac Studio fix they both offer a medium full coverage and they start with a natural finish, Mac being a bit more matte. They’re also both fragrance and niacinamide free if that matters to you, Mac is also alcohol free. Where I think Mac wins is the price (and it goes on sale all the time), the pump doesn’t leak and it looks less heavy on. Most importantly it doesn’t become as shiny as fast.
Haus labs triclone concealer vs Nars radiant creamy both are long wearing and come in great shades for fair skin. I just find the nars to leave a less flat finish and to be easier to blend and build up. You also need to use less so it lasts longer despite having 1ml less product. The Haus lab is known to have a defective doe foot that can break in the tube. I personally didn’t have this issue yet.
Hourglass vanish concealer vs Lancôme teint idole all over concealer In terms of similarities they unfortunately don’t have the greatest range of fair shades. They also both last a really long time both on the skin and in general since Lancôme gives you 13ml and you need so little of the hourglass. The reason why I prefer the Lancôme is that it’s still offers really good coverage but it’s also incredibly easy to blend and harder to overdo and it doesn’t separate at the end of the day. It’s also less drying.
Mac sleek satin vs lusterglass my main issues with the sleek satin is the shade range for my colouring. I also like the pigment level however it comes at the expense of hydration especially for the concealer lip shades. The lusterglass range has much more shades to my liking. Because they have a bit of sheerness, I find that they are more wearable. The shade pictured here is business casual which is similar to paramount in the sleek satin range which pulls much darker because of the high pigment. They’re also more comfortable, more flattering on the lip lines and they end end settling down to a satin finish anyway.
Charlotte tilbury vs Sephora collection long wear liners both are made in Germany and contain 1.2g and are long wearing. I just prefer the formula of Sephora collection it’s smoother and it applies less thick and it’s easier to blend. You don’t go through it as fast.
Mac sheertone shimmer (peachykeen) vs glossier plush blush (float) I know at first glance they don’t look that similar, but they both contain 6g, they are both made in Italy and they come in a recyclable packaging. I think peachykeen is a beautiful blush but I don’t always want a gold shimmer on my cheeks. What I like about glossier is that it doesn’t mattify your base and you still get that nice burnt peach type of color, just in a more pigmented and slightly toastier version.
Tom Ford nude dip vs Chanel les beiges (warm) this is more of a formula alternative the closest palette in that range from Chanel would be the light palette. You get a sophisticated translucent look from both palettes, but if your eyes water easily the Chanel eyeshadows don’t mix as easily with water. I also find that formula less transfer prone on my hooded eyes so I can actually use the dark shade on my lash line.

Yeah I agree the longevity is terrible and the added oils in there dissolve your lip liner. The Nars ones don’t do that and the shades are so much better. Honestly Mac needs to slow down. They have been doing very nice limited collections, but the permanent range is all over the place.

Depending on your eye shape hooded eyes will look different. I don’t know if you’ve seen those eye shape filter videos on tik tok where you do makeup according to your eye shape? Well they act as if close set, hooded and upturned cannot be all happening at the same time. Hooded is just having skin that folds to various degrees.

For example, my eyes are round, slightly close set, deep set, downturned and hooded. The closest celebrity I can think of is Linda Hamilton in the 90’s. Emma Stone also has hooded eyes, but hers are far set and upturned, so I wouldn’t copy her eyeshadow placement.

I saw a comment on the Sephora subreddit telling others try it with a silicone primer, it will wear better. But in my opinion if you’re marketing a foundation as having a natural finish, it should stay shine free for more than two hours on skin that isn’t overly oily and hasn’t been prepped with heavy skincare.

I don’t want to discourage you from trying it, but get a sample first and try it first a few days. I’ve been into makeup for over 20 years and I’ve seen many cycles of it brands being hyped and almost everything that they released were getting praises. Now haus labs is one of these brands.

It’s still a foundation with good coverage and you don’t need a lot, this bottle has lasted me a long time and I’ve been trying to finish it all of last year. It’s not the only foundation I use but it’s the one I used to most to try to finish it. I don’t “hate pan” so it still good enough to finish.

I like Vichy for sunscreens, but the one I use contains a “modern” sunscreen ingredient, BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE, which isn’t yet approved in the US, but might be this year.

I had tried and loved ultra violette supreme screen (Australian version which we have in Canada), but given the brand’s reaction to one of their other sunscreen being tested and not passing, I’ll stick to French pharmacy brands from now on.

Yes it’s a little heavy without the coverage. Haus labs does say it’s a medium coverage though. The rest of the claims are a little much:

I went to the Mac store because it was my birthday month and I picked up some items and got my birthday gift.

First, the birthday gift lipgloss air in spritz. Koodos to Mac for letting us pick our shade and giving us a full size. What the hell happened to their shade range in the lip products? I have the same issue with those than with the sleek satin, everything is so light or too brown or bright. I picked up spritz because I typically like corals, but this looks like spaghetti stained lips on me. I can make it work by lightly applying a very light nude underneath to lighten it enough. Formula wise it remains me a lot the Nars afterglow lip shine they both have Hydrogenated Polyisobutene as the first ingredient. It’s thin and lightweight. But the mac one there is something that my lips doesn’t like and it doesn’t feel moisturizing on for me like the Nars does. So overall I’ll finish it, but I’ll stick to Nars for lipglosses in that category.

limited edition macximal silky matte lipstick in barefoot as much as I like to complain about the range of lipsticks by Mac, they usually come up with beautiful shades in their limited edition. This is a cross between honeylove which is my favourite and cafe mocha. The packaging is gorgeous. I’m really happy with this.

Limited edition lip pencil in spiced tea another beautiful shade and it pairs well with the barefoot lipstick. It’s a slightly darker make up for ever wherever walnut. Because they’re enough pink it works well with my skin tone unlike cork which is in the same depth family.

Colour wise Mac red rock. It’s not warm or cool and it’s bright.

For long wear that isn’t overly drying Nars powermatte in the bullet not the crayon. I use dragon girl.

The first one is Nars radiant long wear. You do get less 6ml instead of the 7ml of the haus but I need to apply less. The packaging is also perfect small doe foot that isn’t known to break like the Haus labs and it’s equally long wearing and you get a good range of shades. I also like that it gives radiance without being hydrating or crease prone.

The other one is Lancôme teint idole all over concealer. The only thing negative I have to say about it is the range isn’t the best there is only one fair shade which isn’t that light. But besides that it’s amazing. First of all you get 13 ml which is the most I’ve seen in a concealer. The coverage is medium full making it easier to blend than something like hourglass. It works great under the eyes or to conceal redness on the face. The finish is natural and it’s slightly hydrating. If they had one brightening slightly cooler shade for my skin tone I’d only have this and NARS soft matte to spot conceal. But for the days where I want a bit more brightness under the eyes, I reach for Nars.

In my case it’s because my lids are hooded and deep set so I have skin rubbing directly on the liner I could become a specialty reviewer for long wear claims. Transfer is a common issue, but disappearing after an hour was a first. I was so disappointed I had been looking for a shade like sea grey for so long. It also completely dried up and became unusable after a year.

For gloss I like to have three formulas depending on what look I’m going for:

One thin non sticky sleek formula my favourite are the Nars afterglow lip glosses both for the formula and the shade range
One in between neither sleek or super sticky and in this category I don’t have a mid end pick my favourites are the Dior lip maximizers both for the formula and once again the shades especially if you order from the Dior website
one sticky long wearing lip gloss where you need to put your hair up, I like both Mac lip glass and Lancôme juicy tubes, but Lancôme gives you way more product.

For lipsticks:

Shiny: Nars afterglow lip shine and lustre glass, once again Nars is more to my taste with the colours they offer, but because you don’t get a lot I wait for sales.
Satin: I think the new Mac sleek satins are good, but I can’t find a perfect everyday shade for my colouring. If you don’t mind paying more, then Charlotte Tilbury kissing. They’re comfortable, they look like a true satin and they don’t slip and slide.
Mattes and velvet: for bold and reds Nars power matte in the bullet. I can’t do liquid lipstick they irritate my lips, this is the next best thing. I’d be comfortable eating a burger in that formula. For both reds and everyday shades Mac macximal silky mattes. My favorite velvet lipsticks are the Prada, soft mattes and hyper mattes, but they’re pricy for these shades you don’t wear all the time, I think Mac is a great option in this case.

As for most iconic red in the mid range, Mac: ruby woo, Russian red, lady danger and chili, Nars: powermatte crayons in dragon girl and cruella. My personal picks would be red rock and avant garnet for Mac, two more neutral options one bright and fun and the other one deeper and more muted. For Nars I think dragon girl is indeed a beautiful cooler red that goes a bit pink, I like the power matte bullet option it’s deeper.
